KFC Heavy Metal New Leader (MP Ultra Magnus)
Re: KFC Heavy Metal New Leader (MP Ultra Magnus)
pee-pee Magnus please! (not that I'll buy it. If I've not jumped on the proper coloured version I'll not buy that repaint, but yeah I do want to see someone review it)
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.

While I won't be buying either. I think the Diaclone Powered Convoy colors might be in more demand. love the added face plate.
That Shining Ultra Magnus might be a tough sell. Think,KFC should release it in smaller numbers. Noticed that the trailer is not translucent yellow. Looks like its done up in yellow chrome foil. Love the weathering look on the trailer.

I love the way this turned out. I was fearful of all that car carrier armor parts and pieces being thrown on the MP-10 robot mode.

I think the Takara designer is a genius with this MP-22 toy.

Talk about a curve ball. What a surprise.

Yeah, hate to say it, but unless KFC drops the price, I'll probably go with MP-22 as well. I actually like KFC's feet better (even if they're not accurate), but the price and not-perfectly-accurate truck mode gives the edge to MP-22.

I like the 1986 Ultra Magnus Character enough. to buy both the KFC UM & MP-22 toy versions.

New info on MP-22 (Front Paged) has it looking much closer to Citizen Stack in overall configuration/design. It now appears that there is no internal robot. In looking at the new higher-res pics, I can see parts of the legs as the floor of the trailer. This is a bummer for those who wanted an interior robot...
However, I wonder how Takara was able to make an in-scale alt and robot mode and KFC wasn't.
At any rate, with the price drop on the Takara version, I am sorely tempted to pick MP-22 up. It looks awesome. Stacks looks good, but I have a feeling that once I see paint on the MP prototype, there's going to be no contest. (I don't really collect MPs, but I did jump on BB. I may pick up Grimlock in Movie Packaging. And I do have a couple of MPs already. Darn plastic crack habit!!)
As far as the renders for alternate colors (and I have no idea how anyone could reasonably infer chrome foil versus translucence in a render) I get the Powered Convoy colors. Was the yellow a Diaclone version? I don't remember there being a Diaclone UM. Otherwise the yellow version looks a little like some yellow fire trucks from some of the stations here in Minnesota. Or is it meant to be one of those toys that represents a second and a half in the Movie right before UM exploded?

Mass shifting. Or just better designers. Takara made everything to fold up so it would be in scale in botmode.

This is what happens when a 3rd party company listens to the fans. He went with the noisiest people instead of the numbers.

Were the noisy asking for an MP-sized Ultra Magnus, or Classics sized?

As I recall, there was a poll on TFW with multiple choices. The choice that won was "Scaled to MP-10 in alt mode" despite the fact that most who decryed that size accurately predicted the behemoth that it would become, but couldn't all agree on another option, thus diluting the poll.

So there was no option for a Classics-sized figure? Because if there weren't... that was one of the dumbest things that could've ever happened.

Oh there was an option for classics sized all right, it's just that for some reason, people thought that alt-mode MP scale was actually important. Like I said, this is what happens when a company listens to the noisy minority.

If their is any blame here,I think,it rest more on Keith and less on the fans. Keith should have done a poll on all the TF Forums not just the TFW forum.

I would have bought it and I still love my City Commander. This done in classics scale would have been a good way to incorporate Magnus or Powered into a classics collection while using the City Commander mold for the other option.

It was also on Facebook, the tfw one was done by a member after the FB one came up.
There were only two options
1. Scaled to MP 10's bot-mode with an undersized alt-mode
2. Scaled to MP-10s alt-mode with an oversized bot-mode
They even pointed out that if they go for alt-mode the thing would be larger than MP01, but the idiots didn't care because we're apparently not in this hobby for robots, but for stupid cars and trucks and planes.
And no matter what size, this does not fit into an MP collection, the design is too classics to fit with anything that's supposed to be highly accurate to the '80s incarnation.
