Well to fill the gap left by the old 80GB MGS4/Motorstorm bundles, Sony's bringing out a $499 Uncharted Bundle which includes a 160GB PS3, a DS3 controller, and Uncharted: Drakes Fortune.

whats the catch? its still the 40GB ps3 model. No backward compatibility, 2 USB ports, and no mmc card slots. Now you can buy Uncharted, and a 80GB PS3 for $460 before tax. Is the extra 80 gigs worth the extra $30? I don't think so really considering you can put any size of HD you want in it.

When I first heard of the 160GB model and that it didn't have BC I figured they were just going to start putting the 160GB hdd's in the current 80GB model.

I've seen an 80GB hard dive for PC go for around $60, while I've seen a 160GB hard drive go for around $130. So I'd say $30 for an extra 80GB is worth it, yeah.

yeah I supose. I don't care much about BC anymore. Sony did away with it to save money. The 40 gb model has a new motherboard, with a 45nm cell processor, and it contains now PS2 hardware what-so-ever. The old 80GB still contained all the PS2 hardware except for the emotion chip. It was emulated. So they basically were still loosing their ass on it.

As for me I'll be sticking with my 40GB regardless. I'm not buying another PS3! I may buy a bigger hdd for it eventually. Thinking at least 320GB

Sony could still do BC if they wanted too, but they don't want to spend the money developing an emulator.

Well, for the price of a new hard drive, you could probably go out and by a PS2. A brand new one goes for maybe $130, and if you're okay with used, those can go for around $60-70.

I got a PS2. Inherited it through Marriage. Its a launch model but doesn't have the dreaded disc read error. Still though it survived a domestic dispute with her X boyfriend, and as a result its missing the drive cover. I still wonder how much life it has left in it. I'm hoping to trade it in soon for a used PS2 slim.

PS2's get kind of a bad rep for the disc read error. I got a used on in 2004, so it may very well have been a launch model, and it worked like a dream. It may have froze once or twice, but my GameCube and Xbox did the same thing. And the only time it got a disc read error, it was a bad disc.

And before you say "Man, how rich are you that you could get all the consoles from last generation?" I had to shovel a years worth of horse crap in my uncle's barn to earn the Xbox. That is going to take up a full chapter on my memoirs.

I had all of the last generation too, but during the system war I only had the cube and the Xbox. When I bought my gamecube I was making $9.16/hr and living at home. I litereally went to Wal-mart, threw down $400 and got the Mario Sunshine Bundle (included Mario Sunshine and a memory card), a Wireless wavebird controller, and Mortal Kombat: Deadly alliance. That was in January of 2003.

As for the Xbox I too have an interesting story on how I got that. A buddy at work mentioned to me that Mountain Dew had an promotion going on and you could collect points and get a mountain dew green Xbox. So I looked into it. It was 550 points to get an Xbox bundle. Their were 5 bundles, each including a game. 2 of which were Green Xboxes. Well here's how the points worked: 1 point for every cap, 3 points for 6 packs, 6 points for 24 packs.

I didn't go out and drink that much mountain dew, afterall it wouldn't be worth it! But what I did was started dumpster diving, and talking to the friends. I remember I walked around a whole college campus one day and collected caps out of their garbage cans. I went to a concert that was sponsered by Pepsi and sure enough their were mountain dew bottles with the special orange caps over the ground. I also got my Dad involved. He talked to the guys at work, and in no time, he was bringing me freezer bags full of caps home.

I had my 550 points in less than a month. But now I had to wait for one to become available. All 5 bundles had "coming soon" on them. They would tend to go from "coming soon" to "sold out" as soon as they became available. Well the 2 green bundles went first, then 2 of the other regular black Xboxes went next, leaving only one bundle left. Pepsi had an announcement about that bundle: during one certain week they were going to make it available and they've made like 1,000,000 available so everyone who wants one could get one!

wednesday of that week just for the hell of it I checked and sure enough the bundle was available! So I got it, cost $8 for UPS to ship it, and when it was all said and done, I got an Xbox and a game for $8!

Of course the first thing I did was go to best buy and pick up Halo. Only $20! The bundle came with a Rally car game. I ended up selling it to my friend. It was too hard to get into.

My current systems have lest interesting stories. My wife was out with my brother-in-law when she found a Wii. She borrowed the money from her brother to get it, and we paid him $100/month till we had him paid off. As for the PS3, well I'm still paying on that... I pulled the credit card out and swiped it!

For that price it should be backwards compatible. And have a half ways decent game even if it came out last year.


And xbox is coming out with sweet bundles always have.

Those are the best exclusive games no doubt. GT5 looks beautiful but I didn't like the other ones and I doubt I'd like the new one even with awesome graphics. A friend told me Motorstorm blows. I haven't played any of the Ratchet and Clank games so I can't really judge those.

That being said at least Sony realizes that Uncharted is one of their best games and they are throwing it in with the 160GB bundle!

I don't really mind the lack of exclusives on the PS3. Third party support has been great! Really the PS3 is benifiting from Nintendo's screw up. Sure the Wii is the #1 best selling system in the world right now but its commonly hated by developers. I think a lot of developers have no problem making a next gen game for 2 systems but once you get a 3rd one in the mix and its not selling so well developers are canceling games. On that note I think the only reason Wii has a 3rd party is because of the ongoing strong sales of the PS2. Most 3rd party games are just PS2 ports with added motion sensitivity controls.

As for the 360's exclusives I"m not too worried about them. They'll end up on the PC eventually anyway

To be fair, Nintendo began losing third-party support since the Nintendo 64 era, when Square switched over to Sony. (Probably a good choice, FF7 probably benefited from that, while FF8 definitely did (I think FF8 was more graphically impressive)) They've been losing more and more over the years, including losing Rare to Microsoft, which is very not cool.

As for 360 games going to PC, yeah, that happens, but then, a lot of PC games get a console release eventually. (BioShock, Half-Life 2, Doom 3, etc)

Perfect Dark Zero wasn't as good as the original, but still wasn't terrible.

Yeah but loosing rare was Nintendo's own stupid fault. Remember the game "Star Fox Adventures" for Nintendo Game Cube? I think its original name was supposed to be "Dinosaur Planet", and it wasn't supposed to have any star fox connections at all. That was all Nintendo's doing. They bullied the hell out of Rare with making that game then when the game was released Nintendo was so dissapointed with it they let Rare walk.

I was really pissed at MS originally for what happened until I looked into it more.

Rare isn't what they used to be anyway. The goldeneye/perfect dark team has all left.

ok i got a few questions. i know the original 80gig has wifi and everything else. but does the new 80 gig have wifi or do any other versions have wifi also?

All PS3's have WiFi except for the 20GB model which is discontinued, and not easy to find anyway. All PS3's currently in production however do have WiFi. Good thing too. I couldn't imagine having to run a cable from my living room to my bedroom!

I think I might just skip out on this current generation of consoles. My PS2 (which I bought in the summer of 2002) still works great, which is a bit surprising, since it has outlasted my Playstation despite me playing the PS2 more. I'm quite content with it and I still got tons of PS2 games left that I've haven't played.


I would be extremely interested in Xbox 360, if it wasn't for the red ring of death thing (although I heard supposedly current consoles work better).


The PS3 is a great piece of hardware, and it has a handful of really good games (like Resistance, Uncharted, GTA IV, etc...), but there's no one really great game that makes me want to buy the system.

Like for example, Super Nintendo had Street Fighter II that made me want to buy the system (although I ended up buying the later released Street Fighter II Turbo), Sonic 2 made me want a Genesis, and Final Fantasy VII made me want to buy a Playstation.

PS3 doesn't have that one game that makes me want to buy the console.


As for the wii, well, my wife bought one, so technically I do have a console from this generation in my household, but it wasn't something I would have bought on my own, although downloading classics from the virtual console is intriguing. Yeah, it would be nice to play Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy, but we haven't bought any of those (my wife has bought stuff like Rayman Raving Rabbids and wants to buy the new Animal Crossing game).

I really, really recommend getting Metroid Prime 3. It's a bit short, unless you're going for 100% completion, but it's REALLY good.

I dunno about Super Mario Galaxy, although I've heard plenty of good things. I really want to get it, I just don't have the money.

If you have friends, get Super Smash Bros Brawl. People complained that you have to unlock Solid Snake and Sonic, but that takes maybe an hour if you don't unlock them through Subspace Emissary.

Cool, I really like the original Metroid Prime. It was the first Gamecube I got and it worth the price of the Gamecube console. I wouldn't necessarily say that Metroid Prime made me want to get a Gamecube, since I didn't know how it would play (despite reading all the great reviews for it), but after beating it I would say it was worth to price to buy the Gamecube.

It's funny, I don't really look at wii games when I'm shopping, except when I'm with my wife and those times we're either looking at games that she would play herself and she and I could play together.
I'll try to get her to play some Super Smash Brothers, but it would help if she actually grew up on those characters.

mario galaxy is awsome. when i first played it it was like when i played super mario 64 all over again but better. super smash is great to. and as for sonic and snake...the fricking game at heart is a fighter...and what do u do in fighters? unlock ppl who you dont start the game with!!! geez...cant please anyone. snake sucks as a fighter though. sonic is pretty good.

Love Super Mario Galaxy, and Metroid Prime 3! Also I recommend Super Paper Mario. Fun as hell to play!
