For years now on this site and others we have seen these references to My Little Pony. I know they were created by Hasbro, but what do they have to do with Transformers ?

And then at Botcon 2011, the unthinkable happened:

This dude in a pony costume walks up during the Hasbro pannel to ask when they are going to release more My Little Pony products. Of course Hasbro's answer was “not at this time” and mutters of things that are not politically correct filled the room. No disrespect to anyone, but what’s the purpose of all this pony stuff ???

Simple answer:

The new MLP show is pretty darn good.

Though the target audience was little girls, many adult men find the show entertaining and fascinating. Lauren Faust, the creator of the new show, has made quite a few rock solid cartoons in the past that can be appreciated by an adult. No surprise that MLP is popular in certain sub-cultures.

Now, that's not to say that the fella who dressed up as Rainbow Dash at BotCon wasn't acting like a schmuck.

I'm no Brony myself, but I have watched a bit of the 'toon. It's genuinely entertaining and funny. Stellar animation as well. I'm sure some bigger fans can explain better than me...
