Hi everyone,

I received today my Universe G1 Series Commemorative Edition Perceptor reissue, bought on yahobby.com, and although this came very well packed they sent me an opened Perceptor... I've already sent them an email but while I wait for an answer from them I'd like to know some answers from those of you who also bought this figure, because I'm really suspecting this is not just opened but actually an used one... and I bought it supposed to be MISB, brand new.

Anyway, this are my doubts about it:

1) No rub sign anywhere. I've seen videos on YouTube reviewing this figure and I've seen it's supposed to be one on its left leg, but there's no rub sign, anywhere... I've also looked well on the box and it really isn't there

2) In every video and picture I saw, the leg stickers had the small triangle inside the red rectangle both to the outside and on mine it's facing the inside, i.e. the stickers are switched. The only thing mine came with, besides the box and guns and missiles, were the instructions. There was no sticker sheet and all stickers were already on the figure. On the instructions it doesn't show how to apply the stickers, so I'm unsure if this is supposed to come with a sticker sheet or with the stickers already on the figure, like mine came. Did yours come with a sticker sheet?

3) How were the finishing touches on your figure? Were they near perfect? I ask this because mine has a few bits missing on the chrome, has some bits of dirt in the legs and the stickers have bits damaged where they seem used.

4) Looking through the lenses I see black dots of dirt in side. Does yours come like that?

5) Is there any good quality Perceptor KO that looks a lot like the original? I don't think this is a KO, it looks too legit, but with all this I'm thinking about everything...

The missile launcher is exactly as it everyone is complaining about, no spring and the missiles fall of very easily.

I'm not sure I remembered everything, the main part is about the sticker sheet and if anyone else got one without rub sign. The rest is a bit subjective.

BTW, anyone ever had this kind of problem with yahobby.com?

I don't have the re-issue, but if you are talking about the one that was at Toys R Us, I at least looked one over pretty heavily while picking one up for a fellow collector, and NONE of the ones I looked at had anything remotely like that. The dirt/chrome issues you described have me thinking return/repack that got sent to you by accident. Hopefully you can get the right one!

I can only give one point and that's using my TFC Perceptor. Perceptor doesn't come with a sticker sheet so that's one thing off the list.

As for the other points you mention it seems that you may have an opened and returned miniature so you're well in your statutory rights to obtain either a replacement or a refund.

Thanks, then at least it seems that the absense of a sticker sheet is correct and the stickers in the legs came switched from factory.

Wheather this is a returned figure or an used one from someone at yahobby.com it's still very bad that they sent me this one because this isn't what I bought. I really hope they make up for this somehow because I was deceived by them. I payed for a brand new item and got one used/opened, which isn't fair. They get to keep the whole money and I get to keep a less valued item, and I only like to buy brand new sealed figures. I'm waiting for their answer. This is the email I sent them the other day after receiving the used Perceptor:

Hi,

I've received today my order and although it was very well packed I have complains that left me truely disapointed. The box wasn't sealed, it was already opened and I suspect this is a used product because not only did it come opened (the tape-adesive was cut in the upper part of the box), but it also was missing the rub sign it should have in its left leg. I checked videos online of people reviewing this reissue and was able to confirm that the rub sign is indeed missing, someone removed it. At least I hope this isn't a KO boxed in the original packaging, it doesn't look like one. There are also parts where it's missing a bit of chrome and some parts of the stickers seem "used".

I bought a MISB (sealed) Perceptor and you sent an used one. It doesn't even matter if the inside was possibly never used, it is a used product once it is opened. The value isn't the same as when it is sealed anymore. I wanted to receive this sealed, so I'm very disapointed. I consider this an used product.

And it wasn't verified at customs, so it really came like this from there. The mail package was sealed, so no one could have opened Perceptor after leaving you.

I'd like to know what you have to say about this and why it came opened and without a rub sign (a good sign that it is used). This came as a huge disapointment in the last day of the year... and I was really excited with this one. Now I regret I bought it...

I really hope that you get an answer and a solution. I've found that as long as you deal with something as soon as it happens you tend to get a decent solution.

I once bought a MP Skywarp. The figures was MISB but upon opening it - the figure was missing a piece that made up two of the fingers on the model. There was absolutely no way that the seller could have known that but they were very good to give me the figure for half price and offer me half my money back. I took this as it was in good faith and have used the site on and off since.

I'm sure that you'll get this sorted.

It's curious though, my MP Skywarp came with a broken piece (nothing serious though), and was MISB, but that one was bought on eBay, I don't even remember who the seller was, it was a long time ago.

Nah, it was another online retailer. I think that due to the particular alt mode it'll be very easy to have parts damanged in transit even it the box is unscathed.

The part that was broken on my MP Skywarp appears to have been a manufacture mistake and not due to transit though.

Anyway, I've checked the user reviews on yahobby.com and found this one that left me worried:

Same here, and I will write here if they answer, what they'll say, or if they didn't answer anything. Up to now I still don't have an answer from them, but it's still early. But I hope I get an answer at least before next weekend.

And I was thinking about buying Animated Leader Megatron and Animated Voyager Starscream from them before receiving Perceptor. But one thing that really pisses me off is that I never had Perceptor before and he's one of my favorites, so I was really excited and looking forward to get this reissue. But by receiving it like this I felt so disapointed that the whole feeling for getting this figure was completely ruined :( .

BBTS is too expensive for me as I live in Portugal. I usually use etoysjapan (I only have good things to say about them), robotkingdom , HobbyLink Japan and Kapow Toys. But since yahobby.com is advertised on this site I took it as a trustfull online store. I wasn't expecting to have this kind of problems by using one of seibertron's advertised stores :S .

At this time I'm still waiting for an answer from yahobby.com. If they don't answer and/or don't solve this issue I'm never going to use that store again and I'm going to spread this issue so that more people will know and judge for themselves if it's worth it to use the store. If I knew this was going to happen I wouldn't have bought Perceptor on this store... at least it isn't damaged, despite having come opened, the "looks as used" bits and... missing the rub sign... :MAD:

I have that Perceptor, his rub sign is on the inside of his left thigh (on your right if you're looking at his face.) I remembered this without even looking at him because I joked about how I felt dirty testing it out when I first bought him.

Yeah, I saw the rub sign position after watching reviews for this reissue on YouTube. Before that I was searching for it because I wasn't seeing it anywhere and the instructions had that usual section about the rub sign. That was my 2nd "oh no..." after the first "oh no..." when I saw the box was opened... :(

I've just sent them another email, this time I sent it marked as high priority and wrote "Urgent and important" before the subject to gather their attention. I basically forwarded my previous email with the following at the beginning:

I'd like to have an answer to my email and this issue delt with. The email I sent you the other day when I received my order is below. I don't know if you read it, but today I received the newsletter from your store, but still didn't receive an answer about the issue with my order in which an used product was sent instead of a brand new as it should have been. Please read below.

I have received an answer from yahobby.com. They said the following:

Hello Artur,

Sorry for delay. I am sorry that you are unhappy with your purchase from YaHobby.com.
But there are a couple of things I must explain.
Unless otherwise specified, all products we selling are authentic and brand new from Hasbro factory or Takara Tomy Japan.
We never sell used items. But since the shipping is a long journey, somethings is out of our control.
For example, occasionally, packages damaged during the shipped or opened due to Customs inspection.

But from your case, we will check the item more carefully before shipping in the future.

About the opend box and missed the rub-sign, our solution is 30% refund (shipping is not included) or item exchange (you have to send the defect item back to us first).

Thanks very much for your patient


And my answer to them was the following:

Hi,

I specified very clearly that the package wasn't verified by customs. I'm 100% sure of that (if I knew what awaited me I would have taken photos before opening the mail package). This came like this from you and I'm sure of it, the mail package clearly wasn't opened during transit, I assure you of that. I may believe you may not have seen that this item was opened when you packed it, but you should assume your mistake and honor your business by solving it somehow without giving me more loss than already has been given. The fact is that you sent me an opened item that should be sealed and you're presenting me situations that I'm completely sure that they aren't the case because like I said, the mail package hasn't been opened by anyone until it reached me.

I'm very disapointed that this is what you have to say about this. I've been discussing this on seibertron.com and if you don't solve this properly you'll probably lose more customers than me. I can see very clearly if a package I received has or hasn't been inspected by customs. For instance, they re-seal the verified mail packages with their own tape-adhesive with our post office logo and name. That happened to me many times, and also they don't unseal the products inside, just the mail package.

I don't know if I understood well, but are you proposing a 30% refund to compensate for this? If that's so I think it's better than nothing and it helps to compensate for this, although I'm not sure if in the end it still is a high amount for this item in unsealed condition. But if that's the best you'll do I have no option than accept it. As for the option of returning back the item it's not worth it, nor is it fair, as I would have even more expense and for a mistake that wasn't mine in the first place.

Your answer will be posted on seibertron.com right now, as well as this new email I'm sending. If you solve this issue properly without causing more loss for me I'll also post that on the site and I'm sure people will appreciate the resolution of the issue. You did a mistake, weather intentionally or not, it was your mistake and I'm at loss from it because I received an unsealed item and which even looks like it has been used.

I'm waiting for an answer.

Hello,

I'm afraid I can't help with your Perceptor issue, as I don't own one, but I just wanted to share my yahobby.com experience with you. I ordered Animated voyager Optimus, Starscream and Grimlock from them. The box arrived pretty screwed up, and even one of the toy boxes inside had one corner dented because of this. Even one of the toys had a couple of small flaws (broken mouthplate in Optimus, and a paint scuff in his shoulder, the other two were fine), but this all was probably caused by careless postal service, not the store itself. However, a missing rub sign can't obviously be caused by shipping...

I'm sorry I can't help you any more. I wish you're lucky and everything ends up just fine =)

Thanks, and also thanks for sharing. In my case the mail package didn't have any damage to it, it's like I said to yahobby.com on my first email, the only problems were with the item inside the mail package. In this case it's impossible that the Perceptor's box tape-adhesive cut itself open and that the rub sign vanished during transit in a perfectly sealed, undamaged and unverified (by customs) mail package... :roll: Not to mention the other smaller details I mentioned above that make it look like used, although (thankfully) in good condition.

Their response to you was absolute BULLSHIT. First, they didn't even bother to take the time to properly read your letter and address your concerns. Second, they shouldn't be making excuses before offering a replacement. Clearly this was a shipping error. Man up, YaHobby.

Also, they're lying when they say they don't sell used items. Because what the hell do they think these "loose" listings in Animated are?

I am obviously not in control of how the sponsors on my site run their businesses. However, I am in control of what advertisers are allowed to sponsor this site. I am watching this thread carefully, as I try to watch all threads carefully when it comes to sponsors on this site.

I am concerned about immediately jumping down YaHobby's throat, which seems to be prevalent in this thread. I'm trying to put myself in the shoes of the sponsors to consider what I would do in their shoes in this situation. As of this moment, I'm not sure what I would do. I've have always been concerned about the possibility of becoming a retailer and verifying what scams I would encounter with purchasers and myself.

Playing "devil's advocate" ... looking at this from Yahobby's perspective (or any other retailer for that matter), how would the advertiser know that you didn't open the package and insert a faulty product from another company? How does a SMALL retailer handle that issue? I know how major US retailers such as Target and Walmart handle this situation (they just immediately take back the item), however, that is NOT how small businesses operate (nor is it fair to SMALL businesses to operate in that manner).

In my opinion, it would be an extraordinary stance if a retailer would try to scam a customer like this. It doesn't make sense from a business stand point. For a moment, please consider their accused role in this matter. What would they possibly gain from swapping out the product shipped to you with a secondary product or a used product? $10? $20? Original versions of Perceptor don't go for a lot on the secondary market. The original accusation in this thread doesn't even make sense from a business perspective. It wouldn't be profitable in the least to them.

My problem with "MISB" items that have been "opened" is this ... we're talking about a piece of tape. Last I checked, tape was easily ripped, torn, worn, etc. What's to say that the tape on an item wasn't accidentally cut or something simply because the box landed on something the wrong way or maybe the box cutter cut the tape or some other weird circumstance? I can think of a variety of ways of how the tape on a packaged toy could become damaged. I've also received many toys over the years with "damaged" tape where the tape is "cut" or "broken" yet the item inside is absolutely perfect.

However, this is not the case with this situation. From what I have gathered in this thread, minus the "broken" tape seal, it appears to be simply factory issues, which I wouldn't blame on YaHobby, but rather on the Hasbro factory. The weapons and the stickers both seem to be equivalent to what everyone else has received with their Perceptor reissues. To the best of my knowledge, no version of the G1 Perceptor mold has ever had a sticker sheet. The stickers have always been applied, which is why the stickers always seem to be "complete" or "perfect" on loose specimens of the Perceptor toy. The discrepancies on his missile launcher simply has to do with whether or not it's the Takara version or the Hasbro version.

How much responsibilty does YaHobby have to faulty products received from manufacturers? I haven't read their return policy but I would be curious to know what they have stated in their policies regarding situations like this. I'm sure factory mishaps are a common problem in this industry.

I am definitely trying to play "devil's advocate" in this thread. Of all of the thousands of Transformers that I have purchased online over the past 11 years, I haven't ever returned a figure. That doesn't mean that I haven't received faulty products, I'm just one of those people that rarely returns a product, especially when I deal with overseas retailers. I'm curious to hear what other people have to say regarding this issue.

I guess all I'm trying to do is defend a retailer that most likely is not at fault in this situation, however, their customer service might be a little lacking. Looking forward to responses ...

Here's my two cents.

First of all, if a major online retailer doesn't take care of you properly, it is good to let your fellow collectors know about this in a courteous manner. However, it seems like you started this thread and started firing away at them before you gave them the proper time to respond.

I think their eventual response could have been worded better but they did offer you an exchange, which should count for something. I would have lobbied gently for them to cover my return shipping costs, but they probably also have standard policies on such things.

My guess is they have probaboly been burned a few times by scammers so take that into consideration as well.

Best of luck to you and I hope you find a happy resolution. It sucks to not get what you pay for.

This is a hard one. At the one end, you have the customer, who is clearly not satisfied with his/her product, and on the other, you have a rather reputable online retailer who isn't known for "bad transactions" but may or may not have sent less than mint items on a mint sale.

But I do agree that it is the responsiblity of the seller to verify all items being sent if they are sold as "mint" or "collectors grade". Right now Yahobby has to take you for your word, and its best to try the "honey with bees" approach before trying to threaten a business, cause as Seibertron said, Yahobby really doesn't stand to gain from this situation financially. So give them a chance to make this right with you and if it does turn out that they are trying to pull a fast one, I'm sure further action will be sought.

Let's not pass judgement on anyone until both sides have been able to discuss their perspectives completely. Ok?

Sure, and I'll answer the best I can to the last posts later after coming back from work. Tonight (Portugal time) I'll do both starting with the pictures. I already took some pictures the other day before I did anything on the figure (e.g. cleaning the dirt spots), and I'll be placing a reprolabels rub sign later since I have a few of those and so at least I can fill the empty place with a similar one.
