I started reading the IDW comics starting with MTMTE so I don't know much about Sixshot, and TFWiki could help me only so much. Would you consider Sixshot a prominent character in IDW and what are the chances of him returning to a main role in the future?

Sixshot isn't exactly what I'd call a very prominent character -- he was a six-phaser, so he's more or less along the lines of a final boss Megatron summoned to destroy Earth and the Autobots ahead of schedule; so make no mistake, he definitely made an impact and he was a large focus for the Devastation mini. He did get his own spotlight though, and later appeared in another spotlight - Metroplex's - during AHM. In AHM, Megatron also mentioned Sixshot now had his own freedom thanks to his trading technology for it; and last we saw he was clutching his hand after Metroplex stomped on him.

Personally, I'm surprised he hasn't showed up again yet. He's a six-phaser on par with Overlord, he's apparently alive and still out there, and what little we saw of him did make him a fairly compelling character. He's one of the few things from pre-DOOP IDW I hope shows up again because he could be a frightening foe if handled correctly and put in the right direction.

He's also, like, my favourite pre-DOOP character.

Sixshot was one of the few Decepticons selected for the Warriors Elite and later he became a Phase Sixer. He pretty much became the definition of a one-man military theater who was sent in once a planet was on the verge of collapse. After being shut down on Earth, he was recovered by Nemesis Prime and was defeated once again. He then left the Decepticons only to be stomped upon by Metroplex, with the faintest life sign within him.

So far, he's had sixteen appearances in this continuity.

I hope he reappears by way off a late pod opening on the Necroworld, a Herald of Unicron,
or a servant of the Grand Architect
.

As far as a major character, he served mainly as a minor antagonist for one miniseries and a major antagonist for a one-shot.

Furman was building him up to be important, but then things changed. He got stepped on and hasn't been seen in 8, maybe 9 years in the books. I thought the toy might be a portent of his return, but it wasn't and if that window's closed then idk when he's returning.

So overall, no, but for a certain stretch of books he was significant.
