Is 3D/Imax a must or not?

So I've finally got plans to see DOTM on Tuesday, but the theatre closest to my house is not offereing it in 3D. So basically, I'm wondering if the 3D is even worth it, does Imax make it that much better, etc.

I mean, I saw the first two movies and they weren't in 3D, and that was just fine with me. I saw Thor in 3D and while that was neat it didn't by any means make the movie (as I've heard it did for Avatar, which I didn't see in theatres and thus not in 3D).

So what it really breaks down to is this: If TF3 was filmed with 3D in mind (like Avatar) then it should be pretty spectacular, right? But if it's just tacked on like Thor and doesn't add much, I don't care if I see it just in 3D.

So, opinions from those who have seen it, please! :KREMZEEK:

I saw it in Imax 3D. I noticed it was a lot easier to watch the Imax 3D then it was watching a regular theaters Real 3D. I don't know if it's the size of the screen, the clarity of the image, or something else, but it makes it a lot more enjoyable then a regular 3d movie. Was the 3D worth watching? Sure, mostly to have the experience. Once you get the movie home on dvd, you can watch it in 2d til you drop. But to miss it on a huge screen with a killer sound system, might as well.

I should clarify: I'm not going to see it in 3D on Tuesday. So if I do see it in 3D, it would be a second trip to the theatre, so I'm wondering if it would be worth seeing it again just for the 3D.

Damn... now I really wish I had a 3D theatre that was closer... :(

Actually, I was unimpressed with the whole 3D IMAX thing. The opening scene was good, but after that, I didn't see anything special about it. Avatar and Alice in Wonderland had much better 3D in my opinion.

I was not at all impressed with the 3D, it's mostly gimmicky. Pointing things right at the camera. It doesn't help the movie at all. I've heard people say the 3D is better than Avatard. Which baffles me beyond belief, because it doesn't even compare to Avatar's 3D. Which was amazing 3D for like 70% of the movie. While this has pretty much 3 scenes that really pop. I know Imax is suppose to have extended scenes. Other than that, in if you see it in 2D, you're not missing anything.

Thanks for the input! I'll be seeing it in 2D tomorrow, and then if I go back for more I may check out the 3D just 'cause before it leaves theatres, but I won't make it a priority.

Thanks again!

Uh, that is incorrect. IMAX does NOT have extended scenes. And, I have now seen this movie twice, both in 3D, one in IMAX, one regular, and I thought the regular screening was better than the IMAX one.

Now, that forest battle was sweet in IMAX. I'd prefer an IMAX shot of the Mexican Standoff instead of the 3D.

It was the best 3D experience ever. The first time I did not want to gouge out my eyes while watching a movie in 3D. I find it so strange now to think of the movie in 2D, which was Michael Bay's previous vision. As much as it sounds terrible that studio wanted it in 3D, they made the most of it and then some.
