Uhm...no.

Are there any British TF fans that would like to try?

(Easy to mistake them, though.)

Throttlebot helmets...

And the animated movie helmets all in one shot...
Image

"Test helmets" came in the mail today sized for 10mm diameter, 11mm diameter, 11.5mm diameter, and 12mm diameter. 10mm was too tight. 12mm was too loose. 11.5mm was okay, but a little wobbly. 11mm seems just right.

I felt a bit like Goldilocks.

So now I've carved out an 11mm cylinder with a 5mm peg at the top from all of the heads and helmets. Individual designs still need testing, but I'm at least confident that a Kreon or Lego head will fit.

Anyone have opinions on the best way to bundle these? It seems the easiest thing would be to sell them individually, but then the customer gets hit with a $1.50 handling fee per helmet (or so I understand). Alternatively, I could add sprue connectors between the helmets, but then the customer gets stuck having to shave them off.

Of course, I could just post individual heads AND bundled heads and let customers decide on their own.

And in other news...I'm planning on testing a squared LEGO torso designed to fit the vests. That would open up customizing options to include LEGO arms and legs.

nice job man :)

Rodimus looks a bit top heavy to me, but Springer is by far my favorite :)

As for groupings, you could go w/ character groups like you have, but you might also wish to consider grouping by characters that are officially available too. For example wave 1 has a Springer so folks are going to want a new helmet for him. Same w/ others in that wave that you may have done but aren't shown here.

Happy to see you've dialed in on the exact measurement to go with for the inner diameter, thank you for sharing it :D

I think that the helmets are large enough that you can get away with having them just close to each other without having to put them on a sprue. We do that mainly when there are small parts that we want to keep from getting lost. These should be safe :)

Well, I'm running an experiment to see how (and if) these print in groups without sprues. So far, I have a set for the Throttlebots, the movie helmets (minus Arcee), Elita-1's team, and Reflector. Those are all available in the shop if anyone wants to take a crack at them.

I think I'll put together an "upgrade set" once I have a few more characters from the current wave down. So far I have helmets for Air Raid, Slingshot, and Springer. I have some heads for other characters, but I'd have to resize them and carve out a port for standard heads. (I received a complete head with my test helmets, and I was pretty happy with how it came out...but I get that some people would prefer helmets.)

sounds good mate. Folks may also be interested in single character upgrades. To use Springer as an example, someone may not want the full set but would be interested in picking up the helmet and vest for him. Maybe even a new rotor assembly part... One that has the center portion that plugs onto the post like the original but no blades, just ports to put the swords into so they become the blades... ;) (or plugs into the ports you put into the vests rather than the post thing on the factory version)

an alt mode using your and my parts keeps eluding me though... primarily the cockpit part... :/

I concur with everything you just wrote.

Ideally, I'll end up having various configurations in my shop...individual upgrade packs, bulk vest packs, helmet six packs, etc., so that way customizers can choose which approach best suits their individual needs. We're still in the "will this fit right" stage, though. I'd hate to have a Springer helmet in six different places that I have to hunt down in the event that I need to change something.

As for the rotor bit, I have ideas about that, but haven't had a chance to execute them yet...but I do agree it would have been more clever had his swords become the blades instead of using the standard blades they've been using.

yeah I get what you're saying about having multiple listings to update.

As for working files, might I recommend setting up a "toy box" or "everything" file for print layout. I have all of the projects that are ready to go in the shop in one file separated on different layers. I then turn on/off different layers depending on what I want to get exported into the DAE file. I keep a working file of the individual parts and group everything as components. Then in my "toy box" file I load the component as an external file through the components window (or by drag/drop the file into the toybox file) and placing it. When the source file gets updated I just have to go into the toybox file >> components window and then "reload" the component.

Keeps me from having to do extra work :)

Doesn't help when there are multiple listings including the model/part though :/

Some links to better illustrate what I'm talking about with the component thing:

I thought the Decepticons needed some more attention in the helmet department, so I pieced together these...

Cyclonus and Scourge came out nice and clean. Galvatron...well...Galvatron always seems to have lots of trouble, doesn't he?

Nice job man. I never realized how much Galvo's helm looked like the Shredder's.... Cyclonus reminds me of one of the Medabots.. Or maybe Cut Man from Megaman (2?)
