I want to make a "top 10 list" but I need to prepare it first. I don't want this list to be "MY" list only. I want it to be the community's. So I need your help to fill it out:

Subject:
About those transformers toys that are mostly considered "bad" or "horrible" by the community and are universally "hated" by "everyone." However, you actually LOVE some of these.

General rules:
This is about individual toys. Groups or broad generalisations will not count. For example, saying "all Action Masters" don't count but taking ONE of the Action Master do count.
Talk about one toy at the very least or five at best, but not more than five. Please explain why this is considered a "bad" toy and why you love it.

If I have enough responses, I'll compile enough #1s to fill out a top 10. Depending if some toys are mentioned more than once, the top 10's order will be either irrelevant, or it would go by what I may consider to be the "weirdest" and "rarest" choices.

Thanks for your assistance! ;)^

Unpopular opinions thread? I'm down.

Image

Henkei Galvatron. Everyone hates you buy me. I know he's fiddly. I know he's hard to stand. I know he should have been a voyager and I'm glad we're getting Kingdom Galvatron too. But I still appreciate what we got in Henkei Galvy. I like the colours. I like the alt mode with his orange cannon poking out. I even like the transforation - it takes a while to get used to, but it can be fun.

I like the clear ehobby version the best. That set with the Platinum Cyclonus, Scourge, and Sweep set make a really nice reformatting scene. At some point I'll transform green Unicron and put him with them to have the full effect.

Image

Similarly everyone hates the Classics Hot Rod mold, but I'm a huge fan of it. I think the vehicle mode is sleek and a great update to the G1 original. I also like the robot mode. I never had the same problem other people had with it. I think it looks great and fit in really well with the other 86 Autobots released at the time.

Studio is better, I grant you. And I'm happy we have a new version of this guy as well; I'm a huge Hot Rod fan. But I still like the Henkei release.

I love Classics Roddy. Been tryingl to track down the Sons of Cybertron crystal version for a decent price for years.

Outside of that, I love my Energon Prime, many call him Fattimmus, but I think he's awesome. The Megazord combination really tickles me in all the right places.

honorable mention to Armada Side Swipe. Yes, he's a terrible figure, sacrifices a lot for the gimmick. But somehow I still enjoy fiddling with him regardless.

I've only got one off the top of my head, maybe I'll come up with more later: SS Helicopter Dropkick. Is he the be-all-end-all uber-screen-accurate Dropkick? Absolutely not, that's what happens when you base the figure off unfinished/concept designs rather than the finalized version. Do I care? Not particularly, especially since he came out before the movie did and I therefore didn't have any attachment to him yet. I really like how his chopper mode turned out since it's a very slim chopper we don't commonly see in this franchise, the transformation is interesting (and honestly less finicky than my Car Dropkick, his leg door setup always fights with me), I like his weapons, and because his arms transform kinda similar to HftD Tomahawk, you can mistransform his arms into blade weapons for Cliffjumper-slicing action. I honestly just wish he was a bit bigger, so his head could look better/more defined like on his car mode figure.

First, I'll list my personal choices. I talk often about them. For now I only have 3.

#3) Beast Wars Fuzor Injector:

This guy was a notorious shelfwarmer back in the Beast era. He's also one of the ugliest creature to have ever been given plastic form.
However, I just adore this silly thing. He's fun to diddle with and a piranha/wasp combo is just NASTY! He's a ton of fun and that's a very creative design.

(No Siebertron gallery!)

#2) Titanium Rodimus Prime

The Titanium line was a nice idea... that was poorly executed. There was too much diecast in the figures, making them unstable and barely posable. Plus too often limbs and parts pop off if you look at them wrong. Among them is Rodimus Prime (and his repaint Menasor). Bizarre proportions, a weird head, and he's a donut.
Still, he feel solid in hand, he's not frustrating to transform, his vehicle is nice, and appart his gun storage, no partforming at all. Hes hated, but I love it.

#1) Platinum Silver Knight Optimus Prime

Huge, absurd shellformer, not really screen accurate, Age of Extinction Optimus Prime is hated by many. The following leader improved things by a lot but it wasn't great. Target had the "Silver Knight" special repaints as an exclusive and one of those was a direct repaint of that infamous 1st Edition Optimus.
But man, it's one of my favorite Movie Optimus ever! He is huge, He is SHINY. He look powerful in bot mode and truck mode. Plus he's fun and easy to transform. Also, the fact that he drive himself is hilarious! I really and genuinely love that thing. :x

I was tempted to include Titanium Roddy in my list, but I don't quite "love" him.

I appreciate him, though. He's about eye height to Classics Optimus. He's NOT Hot Rod. He's G1. I kinda like what they were going for in terms of his design. He filled the space decently until the Protector upgrade set came along (and I do like that set quite a bit).

Oh yeah, Classic Galvatron. "Everyone" hate itm but I too, love that finnicky dude. He's currently standing along classic Cyclonus and Scourge, along Kingdom Cyclonus and SS86 Scourge. Waiting for Kingdom Galvatron to complete the display.

I didn't know Classic Rodimus was "hated". I mean, since ever. I have my Henkei and he's a pretty damn solid figure. Only the SS86 version beat it. Let's be fair, SS86 even beat both previous Masterpieces so...

Ah yeah, Armada Sideswipe. What a horrible hobgoblin. And his minicon is not better. But he's a lot of fun and his gimmicks are clever. Especially that bike deployer.

Keep 'em coming! :APPLAUSE:

I remember a lot of people just disliking that mold whenever it was brought up. I think it was the proportions mainly. Sure the mold was poplar, but it was mainly because Hot Rod was popular, not that particular iteration.

Did I get a mistaken impression?

I might think of more later, but the one that comes to mind right now is Animated voyager Starscream. He's often thought of as one of the few flaws of the Animated toyline, but I've never totally understood why he gets the hate he does. Are his weapons and deco weirdly inaccurate? Yes (seriously, why is he blue?). Does he have sideways elbows? Sure. But there is so much more to this guy. His robot mode is well proportioned and has good articulation (his elbows aren't that bad in practice), and he just has an imposing aura to him. His headsculpt is fantastic, and his arm articulation allows his to stroke his chin. His alt mode is pretty good too, even if the arms just hang under the jet since, upon checking his galleries, his arms actually do tuck in under the jet, and I've just been transforming him wrong for years. Even his automorph gimmick can be pretty satisfying. He's just an overall good figure in my opinion, even if I do wish he were accurately colored.

07 Payload will always be my baby, even if he's missing his head and bullbar. That claw is still amazing to this day, he sacrificed everything for it and it was worth it. There's not many other figures that have claw gimmicks that reach further than their arms... perfect for abducting smaller figures. He's a crap figure, but he's MY crap figure.

Like a widow waiting for her husband who died at sea, I wait for a SS Voyager 07 Payload (but he wouldn't be able to replace the original)
Better proportions, 5mm hands, maybe turning that awesome claw into a slightly-less-awesome claw that doesn't stick out two-times his body length.

I doubt any of the "07 droids" will ever make it into the SS line because they only have appeared in the video game, not the movie. Regardless, I love these droids too!

I'm putting in a vote for Guantlet's entry...
Both of those molds will always be very special to me.
Imo they were the beginning of a long-awaited break-through that we're just now fully getting in SS86.
No, not perfect by any means. But they are great, and especially for that time, considering screen accuracy wasn't THE priority, these guys were excellent. I only had the Hasbro version of Galvatron, but the Henkei colors look incredibly good.
I believe at one point I had two Henkei Hot Rods, and still have one sealed.
Anyway, difficult to believe anyone really HATES these figures, but I'm sure some do.

That was the first/only one off the top of my head as well, for the same reasons. I love the copter mode and am amazed at how slim they were able to get everything to compress. Sure a terrible Dropkick, but a really fun toy, which is the most important thing to me anyways.

I'm gonna say universe cheetor. Its got a lot of flaws, some that I think could be worked out with third party add ons but compared to Kingdoms Cheetor it looks so much better to me, even has a working gimick and more weapons.

I dunno if the autorollers are hated but I really liked Dirtbag, the posable arms, light piping and transforming in two seconds like a transformer did in the show rather than 20 mins to transform something. Working clasping claw and missile storage.

Growing up with the below (sadly not the knight rider version) Dirtbag was pretty darn cool.

That X-Wing was my first ever Transformer! All that I have of it now is Luke, a couple of the laser cannons, and half of the nosecone unfortunately.

In terms of unpopular figures I like, the first one that comes to mind is SS-01 Bumblebee. Now, yes, the figure has some flaws. That missing pin is a really big issue, and several other parts of the figure have a tendency to pop off. That being said, I still enjoy it. It improves some things from the TLK mold, and while SS-49/74 definitely overshadows it (that figure is darn near perfect), I still like having SS-01 around. Can it be frustrating? Yes. Have I ever wanted to smash it with a hammer? No.
76 Bee.jpg

The other one I'm thinking of is TLK Berserker. I'll be the first to admit that this figure is not very good. The arm panels and the various hinged sections of the alt mode roof like to pop off, and getting everything to tab in neatly in alt mode is a serious pain in the butt.

. . . but man, I actually really like it now. Maybe it's because we're not getting an actual Studio Series Crankcase, but this figure actually nails the look in both modes. I'm pretty impressed with how it goes from a boxy suburban to a surprisingly accurate and streamlined robot mode, nailing the proportions and doing pretty good on kibble management.

So far so good!
Many of these choices were unexpected.

As for that X-Wing Luke Skywalker, the only experience I have with it come from a scrap lot so I can't really judge. But one thing is sure is the plastics on this toy may have aged badly because the parts were quite easy to snap off like dry twigs. Be careful with yours if you still have it. Despite that, I'm kinda tempted to hunt one down myself. :-?

What about the old timers Twin Twist and Topspin? They aren't great in either form, they're a tiny black hook breaking away from being monoforms, and they're worth nothing on the aftermarket, but I still love them. I think they're bot sculpts are fantastic, I like that they feel like a precursor to clones by being similar in appearance but one flies and one drives, and I think they look good on a shelf. Bonus points for my parents buying them for me and my brother when we were kids after they went away for a weekend.

I also had one of those over sized KO Topspins in silver and red with the blank white face for my 5th or 6th birthday that I thought was neat until I pulled him back, he rolled along, and then exploded because the spring was too strong for the plastic.

I'll second Studio Series Dropkick. The robot mode does not match the character well (the head is the biggest issue, IMO), but the vehicle mode is fantastic, and the transformation is a lot of fun for me.

Image

While we're talking about movie figures, I'll throw original '07 movie deluxe Jazz on there. I could probably put any of the '07 movie figures on here, but I was surprised by how much hate this thing got when the SS version was released, as if it wasn't over a decade old at that point. Still think this thing looks pretty great, and the various versions and repaints really make it shine.

I still own and still display the '07 deluxe Jazz (G1 colored) in my Jazz collection. He's a pretty solid figure on it's own. Sure, the SS blow both this and the HA versions out of the water, but I don't think this result in serious "hate" for the originals.

Just being outdated doesn't necessarily mean "hate". A truly hated toy is since day one of it's release. Like SS deluxe copter Dropkick it seems. This surprise me because the only issue is screen accuracy? Weird because this thing look pretty solid and have a damn clean copter mode.

Just being outdated doesn't necessarily mean "hate". A truly hated toy is since day one of it's release. Like SS deluxe copter Dropkick it seems. This surprise me because the only issue is screen accuracy? Weird because this thing look pretty solid and have a damn clean copter mode.

Count me in on SS Heli Dropkick as well! Can't believe I forgot about it on my first post. One of Studio Series biggest shelfwarmers and, despite not looking much like Dropkick at all, it's actually a great figure. I'm a sucker for military aircraft - especially when they're licensed, and Dropkick pulls that off excellently. Robot mode isn't Dropkick, but it is good! Honestly, I like it more than his design in the movie itself.

Since my collection is Bayverse-centric and Heli-kick doesn't look much like the character from Bumblebee anyways, I repainted him as a Bayverse genericon (I'm calling him Downwash) and I really dig it:

This make me regret skipping copter Dropkick.
I think I can still get it at my local geek store, but unfortunately it will be full price. Still better than going the Ebay route.

Hmm, this is a good one!

I agree with the movie 1 Jazz, I have and still enjoy the final battle version.

Galaxy Force Soundwave and Animated Starscream are also 2 good ones, I enjoy both those toys too. Injector feels very obvious too.

As for adding new figures to this list:

-I gotta say Prime Smokescreen will be one, I feel like he is unloved, but I enjoy him. The mold itself isn't the best, but I still enjoy it. He's good.

-Movie Dreadwing, that mold is so much fun. The robot mode is so stupid it's great, and the jet mode is slick! I love it!

-I am also a fan of RotF Ravage and DotM Laserbeak, I love those deluxe Soundwave goons. They good.

-Oh, G1 Powermasters, all 7. I think the 3 Autobot ones go under the radar some, but the whole subgroup is awesome. Love them.

Cheater. [-(
Who is the one you like the most among these that you know "everyone hate"? :-?
Because I never heard of the Powermasters being generally hated.

Although I'm not sure I've seen much real hate for the figure, I also really dig Classics Rodimus. It's definitely dated, but it's my favourite mold from the Classics line, and I still think it looks cool.

Bayverse Jazz (2007) is another one for which I have an odd affinity. I've gotten every US release of that mold. I'm just bummed that a couple of mine got discoloured from sun exposure.

Getting down to the truly "Horrible"...

Earthrise Arcee is a no-brainer. I know I should hate her because she sucks as a Transformer, and the cheap paintwork is another knock, but the bot-mode is just so spot-on, without the weird anatomical shapes of the Thrilling 30 figure. She's not my favourite Arcee toy by any stretch, but for posing on a shelf, she's more than serviceable.

Supreme-Class Cybertron Starscream. I have the Galaxy Force Voyager-Class figure, and I know why that one is superior, but I just loved Supreme 'Scream from the get-go. He's the first $50 TF toy I ever bought on my first sighting, and I still have him towering over the figures on the top shelf of my display. Sadly, he's also experienced some sun-damage, so one of his wings is now kinda green. I'd buy another if I could replace him on the cheap.

Cybertron Thunderblast/Galaxy Force Chromia. Instantly dismissed as shell-forming trash, but she has decent articulation, a relatively unique alt-mode, and the Takara DVD-release "Minerva-Type" Chromia has a really smashing (if rather randomly-inspired) paint job.

Honourable Mention: Fall of Cybertron Jazz. I wouldn't call him a favourite, but I always felt he was a decent figure, and I never understood the vitriol he received. I don't know if the blue head and fists were an intentional homage to the old comics, but I think they look fine, and I don't think it's a bad Cybertronian take on a character whose toys have almost always had Earth-inspired alt-modes.
