I double checked when I read,
phaser, which made me wonder because, it drops the "L" & adds "Ph" for photon. Phaser isn't just simply charged photons, that's something different, anyway-I won't bore you further, but the first idea for lasers used electron, photon, & a few more atoms, when created. Point is we were both right and wrong, just inaccurate.
When talking about something as simple as a laser from a pointer or a targeter, then yes, you're correct, as focused light it's just laser. But in the context of a lightsaber which is a weapon, electrolaser is the correct term as well as the full term. [-PS Edit: because it's a plasma based laser, which fits Lucas's impossible explanation
