Everyone please note(as I don't want to reignite the argument), that I am NOT saying one set is intrinsically better than the others, just that I feel Giant will fit how I want MY collection to look, which should be all that's important if making a choice between the two.

I've preordered Giant and will probably pick up Hercules if it ever shows up at something of a discount. But I simply love the fact that I have two to choose from and neither of them is this:

the "chest wing" plate has always come historically with "Scrapper" (by whatever 3rd party name he is currently going by), the front-end loader bot who forms Devy's right leg...so thats actually accurate.

Okay, so I just cruised thru this forum again, and just saw (i guess, really LOOKED at) the side-by-side comparison pics on Daimchoc's last post...and I am kinda confused:

Dr. Hook and "Crane" are roughly the same height (even, arguable, the same "bulk")

The two dump trucks are roughly the same size, although Herc's bot mode is admittedly more bulky than Giant's bot mode.

Most noticeably (sp?)...the shot of the fully combined Herc next to Giant's torso with it's prosthetic legs...the 'torso area' (the two side-by-side "blocks" formed by crane and the lower abdominal portion formed by the dump truck)...look almost EXACTLY the same dimensions on both Gestalts. Also, the arms look roughly the same size (although Herc's are a bit "beefier"...but not necessarily longer or larger).

Giant's head is smaller...but I kind of always hated the head on my Herc since I first put him together...he has a big blockhead that doesnt even look to scale with his own body.

And it may just be the stand the OG poster was using...but it looks like once you get the final pair for Giant and attach his legs, he would be roughly the same height as Herc too...alghouth, again, with a lot less "bulk" to him. This could just be speculation though, as everything from the groin up appears to be roughly on scale between the two bots.

So, my overall conundrum is...where does the debate about scale come from? Herc is supposed to be "too big" to be on par with Bruty/Supes, but Giant is supposed to be able to fit right in? Something isnt adding up here....

must admit i love this version , i so want one...

there is just 1 think that i started to notice over a weekeinde of drewling over past and presant devestator and make toy pix...

in my eyes they made 1 mistake...
and the question is should you correct it , and if you did would it be that intrusive comparing it to the g1 devestator...

i'm talking about the cab of the craine...
compared to al the other verhikels its on the wrong side of the verhikel....

ea in the us and europe we generaly drive on the right side so al the cabs are on the left side of verhikels....

but withe the craine its on the right...
making me think the original design for that verhikel was inspierd by a japanees verhikel , where i emadgine you drive on the "wrong"side of the road...

you could fix this by flipping the cab...
but it would mean that in the final merge the cab and crain would swiths sides in the front view...so it would mirror the g1 version....

then you ask would this be that wrong / bad ??

whel in my view no...

i would love make toy make a version withe the correction i just mentioned or make al the others also left hand drive ;-)

if not i wil probably trie to mod mine if i ever get one becouse i soooooo want to but darn is it expensive....

wonder what others have to say on this...

One of the very first combined prototype pics we saw of Giant (back when Hercs legs were still hypothetical) was of it standing next to a Crossfire Bruticus and they are about the same height, kibble aside, but with Giant being much beefier. At the time, most of the speculated height estimates between Giant and Herc based on measurements with standard figures was that Herc would only be an inch taller than Giant. But putting a completed Herc with a Crossfire Bruticus proved this wrong. There is'nt a huge difference between a small Voyager and a large Deluxe but six of those differences compounded on each other does add up.

It's because they're not based on Western construction vehicles but Japanese toys based on Japanese construction vehicles. It may not be accurate to what you see in your part of the world but it is accurate to what you'd find in a G1 Transformers collection and that's what they were going for.

This is why I have no problem with the yellow set coming out first. Let them work out all the kinks before they release the green set.

No need for all of that. Giants issues are relatively minor compared to the Hercs pile of problems and they've got the fix ready before it even rolls out to most of the preorder holders. Even Fansproject had an issue with one of their Insecticons, so nobodies above problems. One think about 3rd party companies, they actually fix their problems, unlike Hasbro who just makes another hundred thousand more broken and misassembled toys like it's nothing.

Well, we've seen pics of the yellow Giant with screw driver hands, one flathead and one Phillips. I hope it's not just that but I don't think anyone's buying these for the extra bits.

I'm just joking like I said I own herc and most of giant along with FP bruticus and superion and their not insecticons so I know all about it. Both figures are great but at the moment I'm still leaning towards herc and on Wednesday when I do my YouTube review I'll explain why

Alternate use for the Crane of Mobile Crane, c/o Lejamonster of the TFW2005 boards.

Image

1. Unscrew the crane base.
(unscrewing the crane doesn't affect alt mode)
2. Now you have a weapon-crane.
3. Robot mode is much balanced.
4. Attach the crane (using the weapon peg) behind neck.
5. Enjoy !
Bonus:
6. Collect the screw as a limited Maketoys item.

Scouring the boards has dampened my anticipation for Giant.

It's not like these were rushed to market... I'm taking about design flaws that go directly into play function. Wheels misplaced by mere millimeters (Mobile Crane in alt mode), neck articulation limited in combined mode, splintering of joints. Such tolerances should have been tested and refined well before full scale production. For a flagship release (mind you, without the entire set in hand), this one is slowly unraveling.

Your fans have been patient (ultimatum imminent). Fix it, MakeToys; and make it up to your early adopters, or you'll find your Green Giant preorders turning into after Christmas clearance sales. >:oP

Not seen any major issues that have put me off, particularly in comparison to Hercules. Just had a nosey at the price and I'm all set for this. Will pre-order when I get paid.
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.

Thanks, but I already know that. I also know that shipping from the US is stupidly expensive, despite sending stuff there from this side of the Atlantic being fairly reasonable. I'm not keen on paying half as much again as the set costs just to get it posted to me.

thats whay i say , the g1 how ever nice was flawd...

in my view your not 100% correct becouse if you googel "
japanese construction vehicles" ( and then the name of the verhikel ex crane ) you wil find a lot of cranes withe driver cabs on the left...

my gues so far is this : that this was a mistake made when flipping a cel... (its not the 1st time a g1 transformer has been mirrord in the cartoon...) and i think they stuck withe it...

make toys alterd the robots anyway to make a new rep of thes toys.. so altering this smal bit should be no point...

just make a replacement part that is send withe crane so you can alter it yourself or make a correct version...

i think they know they are going to sel them to mostly countries withe left hand drive so i think if you dont mind changing robots then this should have been done...

it does not stop that al the cabs are on the left , and cranes is on the right wich i dont like now...and i wil mod myself... if not alterd...

i would love to see a photoshop pix of how that looks ;-)

I was interested... Was.

The design flaws, the look, and now the price...all turns offs. I'm still not willing to pay Hercules prices, but I'm not willing to pay Giant prices either. Now...if Hercules could've been had for Giant's pricing...maybe they might've sold me. As is? No.

I definitely find that in my construction vehicles that turn into alien robots, that combine to form a bigger alien robot, realism is my primary concern.

I lie. I hadn't even noticed what side the cabs were on. If they're on the correct side, it makes no real difference to me.
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.

I've recently put reprolabels on 3 of my herc figures with the 4th figures set on its way and I can't tell you how much better the figures look in bot mode and alt mode and with scrapper oops I meant NOT scrapper you get decals for herc wing chest plate it just really slaps some g1 on him. Also I got the upgrade kit to make him look a little more how he was in the show but I like how he dosnt have four arms that just sit around useless in alt mode but we will see how it goes when the kit comes out. And my set b finally comes in tomorrow so I get to check out most of giant my self in hand and not thru pics because nothing gives you a better feel for a figure than your own hands lol
