I can't believe they are making Spiral! Literally the most complicated female design. I was surprised that Maggott even got his own figure. I was shocked that Hasbro have made an update to everyone's second favourite Rita.

Glad to see someone else finally decided to use this thread, I had sort of abandoned it, a shame considering the amount of Marvel I have gotten since.

She is certainly interesting, though she isn't on my radar for pickup. Avalanche, Multiple Man, and Long Shot are the 3 ML I preordered after the Con.

The fact that the MULTIPLE Man is being sold as an individual figure is shocking. Typical Hasbro greed!

Meanwhile, it is good for Avalanche to finally receive a long overdue figure. Hopefully a BAF Blob reissue alongside a Destiny and Phantazia figure are not too far off. It's nice that Hasbro has low key almost completed Mystique's Brotherhood.

So Sabretooth sucks...

This one, specifically. I love the original costume for Sabretooth (and own the original Toy Biz figure "with battle damage"). But, the [main] problem with this figure - he's too small.

Image

Sabretooth is a big boy. He shouldn't be the same generic height as standard figures (Toy Biz didn't go in for scale at all, for obvious reasons). So this new one, aside from having a weirdly oversized head. He's basically as big as Captain America. Which is wrong. Aesthetically, he is nice but botched in the most basic way.

So I'm considering customising him. I haven't done any custom work in roughly 20 years? But I have a spare eyeball "head" ala MOTU Classics Optikk. Which could lead to an alternate design for this gentleman:

Image
The Orb (who ironically enough is getting a figure in one of the upcoming waves)
Perhaps a "Feral" Orb. Since there is a design for him incorporating thorns would could work for the fur on the figure. Or one of my OC's - Blanka (guess the 90's character name inspiration). Time will tell...

Sabretooth hasn't always been drawn in the comics as huge, the one from the time of that particular costume (from his solo comic) wasn't, he was pretty average height. Which is kinda strange since he was massive in the cartoon, but the comic came out at the same time (mid 90s).

you can probably chalk a lot of that up to artistic license. Different artists and all that. Also, there might be some variation depending on just how you want to potray the character. If he's acting as a big fearsome monster that our heroes have to struggle to survive fighting, play up his size. on the other hand, if your potraying him as outgunned or what have you, maybe shrink him down just a bit.

Oh absolutely, I'm just saying the figure is accurate to its source material. Times when he showed up in his comic in the same outfit the cartoon is based on he was a giant again.

Sideshow premium Sabretooth statue

Also note that Mr. Sinister isn't the best height gauge for comparison. As he is 6'5/1.98m

The lowest benchmark for Sabretooth is that he should be physically bigger than Wolverine. He isn't.

This is a rough guide.

Are you forgetting that Wolverine is only 5'3" in the comics? And the comic panel doesn't exactly make him look massive either. 6'5" isn't exactly ridiculously tall, I'm taller than that. From what I can tell he's supposed to be 6'6", but he doesn't really come across that way in the comics. Street Fighter's Zangief is 7', in Marvel vs Capcom if they were both standing up straight they'd be the same height which is definitely not comic accurate. Those two figures look like they represent much more than a 15" height difference.

First off, we're not going to quibble over heights of fictional characters. That's silly.

Secondly, I don't forget details about the comics I've been reading for ...30+ years now.

Now, as Blastback said, it is artistic license used in that mini series and that Sabretooth design. For example, the scale and/or perspective of that Sinister cover being all wrong. Considering it is supposed to be depicting a 6'5 character holding a 6'6 character by the throat.

Here's another Marvel Legends iteration, from the "Face-Off" line:

Image
AKA Toy Biz understood it, Hasbro doesn't.

It's not just about height but proportions. The image with Psylocke above is to demonstrate his physicality over someone of normal size. That's where the figure objectively falls flat.

I guess I'm not too bothered by the heights of Sabertooth, cause I positively love that ML figure of him. He is pretty dang good, and may be top 10, even top 5 ML X-men I have

You know what I'd really like from ML? A stylised line.

Image
Steve Skroce Spider-Man

Image
Joe Madureira X-Men

Image
Adam Kubert Wolverine

etc, etc

A line or even just a wave of figures in the style of the most iconic artists that have drawn them. Details, proportions, paint apps. All of it.

You literally were the one that started it.

Secondly, I don't forget details about the comics I've been reading for ...30+ years now.

And yet you were lauding the accuracy of a pair of figures that were ridiculously out of scale with each other.

Now, as Blastback said, it is artistic license used in that mini series and that Sabretooth design. For example, the scale and/or perspective of that Sinister cover being all wrong. Considering it is supposed to be depicting a 6'5 character holding a 6'6 character by the throat.

Yes, artistic license is a thing in comics, but the comic consistently showed him as being shorter than 6'6" when drawn wearing that costume which the new figure seems to accurately depict.

Here's another Marvel Legends iteration, from the "Face-Off" line:

Image
AKA Toy Biz understood it, Hasbro doesn't.

Do they? Do we have a matching comic panel?

It's not just about height but proportions. The image with Psylocke above is to demonstrate his physicality over someone of normal size. That's where the figure objectively falls flat.

Comparing him against a woman isn't much of a comparison. At best he looks 6' and his physique isn't exaggerated like his later design, it's a very realistic body type.

Look, I'm not here to split hairs, you get a dozen different artists and you'll have a dozen different takes on him. I do think your expectations are too high for a figure based on a design that has definitely been seen in the comics before.

It would be nice if they'd use yellow hair more often, though...

B&G2.jpg

Hasbro are doubling down on the iconic Blue & Gold uniform X-Men.

Sean C.jpg

The highlight going to "mutton chops" Banshee. Hopefully a Selects Green suit version is in the pipeline.

Blob.jpg

Scale.jpg

Blob.. I'm less excited for. The overtly gross nature of the original BAF EG soft belly etc has been toned down, by their own admission. Makes him look a lot less detailed.
Blob2.jpg

Not overly keen on this secondary head sculpt either.
OG Rogue.jpg

A new Rogue, more in keeping with her original Brotherhood design.

Quentin Quire.jpg

Kid Omega debuts! ..Meh

Fang.jpg

As does Imperial Guard Fang (Wolverine alternate is almost a certainty) and Starjammer Corsair!

Although the last Forge in the Caliban BAF, wasn't terrible. This does look like an improvement. It does suck that you have to get the box set to own them. I had that issue with Cyber ala the Wolverine Boxset. It is likely that, much like Longshot, Banshee could come separately. Either in his more traditional green and yellow colour palette:
Image

Or his Gen X design, to match the rest of the students:
Image

Now they mentioned with these figures that a BAF would be announced for them soon.

Depending on which set is getting a BAF, I think it could be Starjammers Ch'od:

Image
(They teased the white pet thing, as an accessory at the end)

For Gen X, I suppose it could be Mondo:

Image

For Astonishing however, it could be Cassandra Nova:

Image

Who would be super ambitious for ML. Also an insta-buy for me.

I'll probably pick Gen-X team members up but I think I'm waiting on Xmen evolution style Legends figures though I'm now in for trying to get all the characters from the x-men cartoon intro (customising a doc ock or red skull to be gargoyle should be easy enough).
