Metal Gear Solid question

I want to play the Metal Gear games, I want to start out with the first one, but I know they remade it for the gamecube with enhanced graphics and controls. So which version should I play first, the PSX version or the gamecube?

Play the original (PSX) first. Really the only thing Twin Snakes has over it is updated graphics.

Wrong. Twin snakes all the way. It's technically canon to the series, more than the PSX ver.

Alright, I'll check to see if they have twin snakes at my local used game shop, and if they don't I'll download the original PSX game to my ps3. At least that way I can play it on my vita too through remote play, and eventually on it's own.

More than the original? They're essentially the same, Twin Snakes just looks prettier.

Again wrong. There are little differences in the game that are referenced in MGS 4, things that didn't originally exist, technically speaking. Also, the cutscenes are longer in some instances.

So Twin Snakes has been retconned into being the original canon then? That explains it.

Ah, no. Same story, same location (Though there's differences in some parts; one particular puzzle in REX's hanger no longer requires you to backtrack way back to the blast furnace) updates graphics, audio, completely redone cutscenes, and all of the gameplay changes made in MGS2. (Non-lethal weapons, the ability to shoot in first person mode, etc.)

They're both essentially the same, save for a few updated things, but I prefer the original. I think they really over-exaggerated everything in Twin Snakes, like the action. The soundtrack wasn't as good and the people who had accents lost it in this one (which was later considered as canon in the later games).

While the story, dialogue, and general level design are essentially the same, like I said, the gameplay itself has had a major update, to include the improvements made in MGS2. (First person aiming, non-lethal weapons, shooting around corners, slow-walking, etc etc.)

And yeah, Mei Ling and Naomi have American accents in Twin Snakes and Guns of the Patriots. And it doesn't really make sense for them not to; Mei Ling was born and raised in the US and Naomi lived in the US since she was a young child.

if you have access to both play the playstation version first then twin snakes, the story is the same but the gameplay in twin snakes is better & there are extras. But if you can only pick one then Twin Snakes cause the controls and Voice Acting are better. And just to try and end the "is it cannon" debate, according to the MGS database on the PS3 the PS version is the official cannon game. Yes They are both the same thing but when ever they reference anything from shadow mosses it shows PS1 screens and events.

Except in MGS4, visual flashbacks are from PS1, audio flashbacks are from Twin Snakes. Likewise, Naomi and Mei Ling continue to use their American accents.

And who is arguing about canon here? There is no contradictory storytelling, so they're both canon.
