QFT. Sadly, I've had to work with a lot of people like this, I'm sure we all have. Being a sentimental guy myself, this is a heartbreaking story, and nothing gets to me more than people who have no regard for other people's treasures. At least Mircosoft did go out of their way to right this wrong. Still, the lofty tales this Nathan fellow could tell with an Xbox that has seen two years of travel cannot be replaced.

No, they probably didn't even open the box. They're probably just in the routine of throwing away those boxes and just sending a new one. They probably get hundreds of broken units and just tossed it like normal. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

Not true. The console came back with the same serial number as the one he sent in. There were even a few smudges of sharpie on the corners.
Microsoft is 'supposed' to send you your original unit back and in rare cases will give you a new one or another refurbed one.
