MOTU

Do you collect other toys besides Transformers? Maybe you've got a Masters of the Universe collection you'd like to show off, or maybe you like Thundercats, Voltron, G.I.Joe, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Wrestling, or any of the various comic book toy lines. Please keep the discussions here to non-Transformers toy lines.

Just a heads up, uk smyths showing webstor, green goddess and lop bbeastman available for home delivery so they should be hitting their retail shelves soon. Weirdly stinkor isn't showing as home delivery but maybe they have to keep him and his stench seperate in an underground bunker.

Looking forward to all 4 of these even if they haven't fixed the female figures knees and classics green goddess is the better but way more expensive version.

Lots and lots of news coming from powercon but the key thing (for me at least) is Masterverse is def not just crappy Revelations :)

New Eternia*, movie and Netflix Shera packaging revealed and they will likely be getting vehicles. I have hopes for Skeletors hover thingy and it should be called that too. Likely the mutants and more coming to that line up too as they said every line of MOTU so we might even get some of the overwatchy motu stuff done in it like I was hoping for (even if I'm planning on picking up some of thehat line anyways)

*New Eternias based on concepts or stuff that has appeared elsewhere. We might get a non classics Molar XD

I saw some news about the whole "Sun Man" finally officially being incorporated in MOTU, and I think that is pretty cool. In my head canonAlong with Eternia/Etheria and Earth, there is a shared universe where Sun Man, Blackstar, and Bravestarr all reside as well. If they could get those characters all in MOTU THAT would be amazing!

Sunmans added more characters but I kinda hope it doesn't reduce the amount of motu characters released in origins. Going to have to try getting the grayskull accessories exclusive set today because the motu scalpers are still beyond sickening.

Monday was a bad start of the week for me, not being able to get the power con bits :(

nearing the end of the week and finding one of each of Wave 6 in a store, no hunting, no cursing, just smiling to the till and out of the shop.

Stinkor...
I could not smell him whilst he was still sealed in the plastic box, I'm thinking some things wrong there.

Opening him up and the box plastic/figure plastic reeks of...new plastic smells. just the figure away from the smelly packaging, I kinda get a faint semll under the newness smell.

I left him out half the afternoon and catch a whiff of a stinkor smell evry so often but smelling him directly (any body part) and it is even fainter.
Maybe europe stinkor isnt as stinky as he should be, but it doesnt compare to the Funko stinkor or the original.

****another update on stinkor, it stinks that he doesn't stink. I've undressed him and smelt every crevice going. Nothing :( the card doesn't say anything about his odor and fun, but still has the girl smelling him on the back if it. It's dissapointment in a box. Also I've heard webstor string breaks easy so I'm not going to be playing with it unlike my old spiderman cartoon figure.

***Bah I just backed out whilst editing so short version:

Green goddess has the NEW FEMALE FIGURE KNEEES

Webstor something something miss tobiz figures, something something transformers spoil us for weapon storage something something have to be creative

Beastman LOP looks like a KO in a 80s way. Def looks diff to have alongside standard beastman

Packaging hints? for upcoming figures, Buzzoff, Mossman and Oolar

Mini comic features all of wave 6 and continues from wave 5 comic (note european comics have no text so it is a case of guess what is happening). I can't guess what Stinkors stench has even meant to be doing in the comic, Beastman appears as regular version and not LOP. spoilers: maybe skeletor should build robots for the horde because army of fakors kick ass

just need my three mozzies and man at arms now before the next retail wave.

So, anyone watched the new show yet? It dropped with little fanfare a couple of days ago on Netflix. I will admit I was partially wrong. While I am still not a fan of the character designs, or the animation, the story so far (only watched 2 episodes), isn't the worst thing ever. The names could easily swapped, and this wouldn't be a MOTU show at all, but it still had a decent start, a lot of potential for a good story here. At least it was honest about what it was selling: An entire new continuity not tied to anything previous, as Transformers fans we are used to this by now. Also the creators did the best thing they could. Keep silent and let the show speak for itself (take note Kevin Smith) instead of selling a lie. David Kaye as Cringer sounds just like BW Megatron, if he were heroic, and it is pretty cool, although the name Cringer in this version isn't really fitting, because he isn't cowardly at all. Personally as someone who likes cats, you will see he has an unfortunate handicap. He hasn't turned into battle Cat yet, but I'm sure that Transformation will alleviate some things.

I actually canceled my subscription to Netflix earlier in the month after 12 years because I was just completely underwhelmed by its content, and with WFC over, the 2 or 3 shows I might be interested in coming down the line wasn't enough justification for me keeping it. But since you pay in advance, I have until tomorrow to finish the the episodes currently available, that or seek another means of watching it.

That's just from the first few episodes. By the end, this is very much MOTU in all the best aspects of it. It's cool how we see a new origin to this universe and how it becomes the MOTU we all expect with a new flair of togetherness (which the 80s show had as well but it's much bigger here).

While I liked Revelations for what it was, I won't revisit it. And it will admit that it's off in wanting to be a mature version of a kids' show while also wanting to be a direct continuation to that show. With this new one being for kids, like the 80s one was, I see more of a link but a thematic one rather than a continuity one.

And here's something: I don't want the revelations toys aside from God Skelitor (for a fun novelty idea, it is a good looking figure) but I wouldn't mind having a set of toys from this new show.

That's good to hear. The opening theme is kind of cringe though, definitely a Big Hero 6 vibe about it, and I like Big Hero 6, just not fitting to MOTU IMHO. . I'm glad I didn't judge this show by that opening theme... One time that "skip intro" on Netflix definitely came in handy. I probably wont get through all the episodes today, but what few I don't watch, I'll find another way. I did think the Modulok name drop in the first episode was kind of cool. Any other random stuff like that?

I wouldn't know since revelations was the first MOTU I ever watched in my life.

And yes, that opening theme song is bad. Visuals are OK but the song blows. Still there are worse intros out there, like the least memorable TF intro of all time in the WFC show.

I'm sure you've heard this ad nauseum, but the 2002 MOTU from Mike Young Productions (often referred to as 200X MOTU) is, I think its fair to say, the one admired most by the majority of the fandom. I just rewatched it again to get the foul taste of Revelation out. But I revisit it every couple of years. It is definitely worth a watch if you are interested in expanding into other MOTU shows. It expands and builds on the original in the best ways possible, it is a shame it only lasted 2 seasons/39 episodes but it began a decade long trend of ending shows that were way too good, too early.

Oh I know all about amazing shows ending prematurely, I named my son after the actor who played the lead on my all time favourite show, Nathan.

And yeah, I did hear about that 2002 show, if it's available fir streaming, I'll watch it with my kids.

The motu boardgame kickstarter by CMON is now live.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cm ... or-eternia

* $110 core game
$75 exclusive castle upgrade pack (yeagh it's almost as much as Origins Castle!! this is the one add on I might not bother with but hey, it does make the game look nicer)
$50 Add on Assault on Grayskull

or a $220 pledge including all of the above

$50 add on She-ra great rebellion

CMON is only shipping to america, Canada, Australia and Asia, kinda hoped UK might have slipped into the licencing territories with it being non European Union, sadly not.

Nice list of characters/minis included including Rokkon :P minis dont look as nice as archons but at least you will physically get what you paid for!

Yep, definitely agree. Even manages to reimagine Hordak into something very interesting. The whole King Grayskull episode was brilliant, to be fair.

I always like to speculate on information regarding the cancelled next toyline and/or concept art, on where the cancelled shows were headed with their next season.
NA, looks like they are all forced to battle for some kind of tournament. Also Skeletor's [red head] design is fascinating in it's implications, as per the aired finale. By the same token, the concept art for Season Two of the Bucky O' Hare toyline - another favourite from the same era, shows the world building was about to explode into a huge array of new characters and species.

200X does stump me though. Season Two introduces the Snake Men and Hordak. Before resolving both issues before it ends. So I don't really know where it would have gone?

Anyone else got stinkor yet? Not sure if some smell more than others but reviews I've seen are pretty much same as my thoughts, that it doesn't stink. I can smell it if I imagine it or have the very faintest of smell sometimes when trying to smell him.

Seems like new motu cartoon is being enjoyed by those giving it a chance. No listings for the toys as yet over here as far as I know.

It's unfortunate that CN in all their idiocy and shortsightedness forced the series to end quicker than it deserved to. S2 was supposed to have 26 episodes, just like S1, so the Snake Men plot would have gone far more in depth.

S3 was going to introduce Adora/She-Ra (that's why the 200X series got a She-Ra toy, though it was a convention exclusive) Also the Horde would have been the main villains for all of S3. Much like how we got a tease at the Snake Men in the S1 episode "Snake Pit". The Season 2 episode "King Grayskull" was just a tease for the Horde. Just because Skeletor destroyed a single temple, you know that wouldn't have been the end of things for Hordak ;). I sort of viewed the 2012 Marvel Comics as a spiritual successor to 200X, though there were some differences to be sure.

Jitsu
Sorceress (new Knee type as per Green Godess)
Buzz Off
Mini comics Stratos (looks like a KO with the boots painted in flesh)

think I'm in for all besides buzz off, Stratos may depend on how good or bad it looks on the day I see it.

Picked up the Battlefield Warriors set at Target Friday, it's really cool! I hadn't really looked that closely at pictures and didn't realize how much stuff was in the box. I love the bits of scenery and Grayskull that comes with these boxed figures and vehicles and those little dragons. Chrome looks good, too, though I wish they would have chromed the weapons and shield, too. Lots of characters on the box that haven't been announced as far as I know. Who's the frog guy on the side of the box?

The series ended because of Mattel, not CN. Mattel fumbled the line at the end leaving retailers with a bunch of figures nobody wanted causing them to stop ordering the figures. No figures in stores means no cartoon on TV. Same thing happened to Young Justice and Thundercats when their toy lines failed to perform at retail. Mattel was so soured on the series they let the Four Horsemen take their designs to NECA for their Staction Figure line.

I'm sure if they get as far as doing the Horde (aside from Hordak and Mosquitor) they'll release Grizzlor again in light brown and a white Horde Trooper.

I've had wave 7 on order at BBTS for a few weeks, sucks that they jacked the price up so much. I doubt MSRP went up any, I think they realized these are hard to find at retail and jacked the price up accordingly. They raised the price on wave 6 as well (glad I got my order in be that).

really wanting that set but my friend hasnt found it in her Targets :( on the bright or down side her daughter has started getting them now -with her demanding a he-man to go with her Skeletor/Keldor which has all started from my friend giving her a panthor she accidently got whilst trying to find the flocked version for me.

As far as I'm (wrongly?) aware Thundercats sold well it just didnt compare to the flash in the pan of Ben 10 so Bandai compared their sales of thundercats to their own golden goose product rather than sales as a toyline on a whole :(

Emerje wrote:I've had wave 7 on order at BBTS for a few weeks, sucks that they jacked the price up so much. I doubt MSRP went up any, I think they realized these are hard to find at retail and jacked the price up accordingly. They raised the price on wave 6 as well (glad I got my order in be that).

Sadly the Motu scalpers probably caused half the price raises, if joe blogs is going to get +X for them, Mattel might as well charge near that to begin with -which then ruins a toyline that's designed to be cheaper/more appealing for kids. That or the container shortages and whatever else. I dont feel priced out by origins yet but I'm feeling it on Transformers.

Wave 6 sold out for home delivery at Smyths within the same day and ebay listings appeared at £50 a figure :( which despite stinkor being a let down it was great to get them instore a week later.

___________

CMONs board game just had the snakemen expansion announced, likely to be a horde expansion before the kickstarter is over -making it pricey but it is including a heck of a lot of the characters.

Mosquitos delivery moved forward to shipping on 1st October.

About 3/4 days left of the board game kickstarter where the last daily backers free mini was laser skeletor, maybe it will have Syclone, stinkor and man e faces before it ends along with the horde expansion set.

Emerje wrote:The series ended because of Mattel, not CN.

I've heard that for over a decade, I still don't buy it. In addition to the shows you mentioned they also pushed out Clone Wars, and Dragons: Defenders of Berk (both picked up by Netflix), also Green Lantern, Beware the Bat, and Justice League Action. Were Transformers: Animated toys not selling? From what I hear from most fans, that toy line did extremely well, yet CN still cancelled that show.

Yet.. I don't seen any Teen Titans Go toys or merch ever, that show is STILL on for some reason. Are Adventure Time toys a thing? I don't think so. CN Just wanted to push away action shows in favor of younger kids programing. Disney picked up Clone Wars and (as Bad Batch) continues to this day. Young Justice is getting a 4th season thanks to HBO Max.

Some smaller shows like MOTU and Thundercats just weren't able to be resurrected unfortunately.

Switching topics, I finally finished the newest series. (was able to watch via a friends Netflix since I canceled mine). I still don't like the look of the show, but it has potential, and some fun moments to be sure. One of my favorite very subtle nods was Skeletor talking through the "microphone" of Snake Mountain. That took me back to 1985 ;) Though many of the character reimaginings I am not fond of, David Kaye as Cringer is probably the best (talking) version of that character. Though I prefer animals not to talk, which is another reason I really like the 200X series.

Revuurghlations wave 2 out at smyths in uk

Picked up spikor, mossman and man at arms

The knee plastics looks a bit weird on all of them and teilas legs/tights just look odd, might have been better flesh colored.

Man at arms might be the first man at arms figure I don't like but I'll be head swapping it and it's cheaper than buying a mythic legions orc to convert.

*Moss Man
whilst probbaly my favourite of the three I picked up, it loses some points for not being pine fresh, including a weapon and maybe slightly for not being flocked but hey, I'll have origins for that :)
I'd heard bad things about the articulation and getting limbs to move, maybe I didnt try to move the other two as much but it didnt seem as bad as it was made out. I moved one of moss mans legs and I cant get it to back to the original position it was in :/ maybe they are that bad after all.

*Spikor
it will be awhile before he shows his face in Origins despite having the pretooledarmor bits in WWE motu, this guy was to go with my mythic legions 'what movie Motu shoudl have looked like' figures -even if I like movie motu designs! Hopefully they will bring out movie Beastman cause revelations beatsman is all kinds of awful to me.
an way back to spikor, the figure is great, the kenees do look odd on this one tho. Fits in pretty well with classics/mythics or origins. The larger size over origins makes him more threatening. his weapons however...the mace is very toy orange so though its fitting its a bit out of place with more serious toys and his trident hand looks really cheap with out being chromed and is very plasticy with out paint applications. Does kinda remind me of China Obrien 2 tho.

*Man at Arms
yeagh...I didnt like him in photos and all the things I didnt like are the same in hand. The body shape just doesnt suit his look and the face/head non removable helmet is just a bit poor for a figure in this price range. the fake fur paint is bad on the edges of the armor. I cracked his thumbe trying to get his mace in his hands. should have come with a bit more weaponry and been able to store them on his belt/back etc failing that an alt head and optional complete set of armor would have been nice. It will look good with a new head and a bit of customisation though.

**another edit/update, Mosquito origins arriving tomorrow YAY
