MOTU

Do you collect other toys besides Transformers? Maybe you've got a Masters of the Universe collection you'd like to show off, or maybe you like Thundercats, Voltron, G.I.Joe, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Wrestling, or any of the various comic book toy lines. Please keep the discussions here to non-Transformers toy lines.

King Grayskull was an amazing episode as well. It was cool to see Hordak and the Evil Horde as I truly envisioned them when I first go the toys back in 1985. Not the watered-down goons they turned out to be in Filmation She-Ra. *For the record I have the whole Filmation series on DVD. I have fond memories of it, but even as a kid, I usually had the toys first, and the mini-comics usually shaped my first impressions of the characters, and I was usually disappointed by the time they showed up in the cartoon.

This is quite the opposite with Transformers, where my first impressions were the cartoon, and I got the toys later, which I was for the most part ok with, except the Dinobots, I wish they weren't played as dumb, and then comedy relief from TF:TM onward.

He-Man is one of those properties I'd always have liked to see taken a bit more seriously. Akin to the tone of Conan The Barbarian. Most of the villains are always downplayed or outright goofy. I think King Hiss is usually the only exception to that.

The Low Road.. My most hated episode of Beast Wars. Thankfully when the show found the right tone - Season 2 - there were no more episodes like that.

S3 Go with the Flow is pretty bad. With only 13 episodes, this is the only episode of that season that doesn't advance the plot, and it shows. I really with they could have made the "Dark Glass" episode as originally planned a reality, and not had to force the episode we ended up getting instead.

That's why when I mentioned the correct tone of BW, I only point to Season 2. The best thing S3 brought to the table was Depthcharge. Besides, I've always thought Dinobot II should have been Grimlock instead. With no ties to Dinobot at all.

I've always wondered why Skeletor is portrayed as his is, in the cartoons? The mini comics and other media tout him as the counterpoint to He-Man. Supreme Magic to Supreme Physical Strength. But he is never shown as such.

In a cartoon where He-Man wasn't allowed to use his sword to fight it really isn't that surprising that the villains are more goofy than terribly evil.

Do we know what Origins wave 5 Evil-Lynn looks like? I doubt she's a repack of the wave 1 figure considering wave 6 Beast Man 2 and Green Goddess. I'm guessing she'll be cartoon colors? Just wondering how badly I need the wave 1 version, I'm indifferent to her being yellow and blue or black and white.

I haven't bought any of the MOTWWEU figures before, but I saw Ultimate Warrior and Kane on the shelf at Walmart Saturday and couldn't resist, they look amazing!

That's true I suppose. The same with Shredder. Who in the original TMNT series was completely useless and non-threatening. It took until the '03 series to correct that. Taking 16 years, with only the brief live action glimpse of Super Shredder to counter that. Meanwhile 38 years later, Skeletor is still waiting.

The voice for him has always been on point anyway. Although I do have a bias towards Campbell Lane over Alan Oppenheimer.

Oddly just popped up as a recommended video...

Can't find a pictiure with the new knees but she should look like below but with better legs with the improvements.

WWE MOTU has to have a Two Bad body style for the Bushwackers and Nasty Boys. I'm in for both of those if they happen. meanwhile I'm wanting to paint a battle cat a flesh tone (which will look weird for sure) and have it as animal from Legion of Doom with an eventual Soar repainted as Hawk, they shoould look great with Kane even if its just a made up combo.

Was just coming to say I found a pic of that Evil Lynn on Amazon, but thanks for posting it!

I saw a custom Legion of Doom Two Bad in the background of someone on YouTube that I thought looked perfect considering the spikes. Can't find the video or any pictures online. :(

Yes, I realised I goofed earlier. What I thought (by the description) was an image of the new Evil Lyn figure. Was in fact just a recolour of the Classics one...

The laugh aside (which is hilarious in both the original and 200X). I thought Skeletor was pretty awesome in the 200X series. He didn't use over the top insults like the goofy filmation version. With a mere glow to his eyes you could feel his rage, and his henchmen would cower. He actually fought He-Man, and others sword-to-sword on multiple occasions, although that was not his strongest asset. While not dialed up to 11 as in some of the DC comics, I thought the 200X Skeletor was pretty on point. I can only hope the Netflix version is anything close to being that good.

Alan Oppenheimer is an awesome person. If he comes to a convention near you go to it. On a tangent to the conversation he can still do Warpath's voice.

Somethings not right with ram man..
IMG_20210604_170711.jpg

His face in the helmet with out the face plate is a face of nightmares all squished up in there (almost like an 80s toy or something), his podgy hands/arms with their weird looking texture/paint.

Knee joints and the spring gimmick are nice to have on the figure. I'd even be tempted to army build him but I find him kinda creepy.

IMG_20210604_182223.jpg

*Also the heads from other figures don't fit on the head peg as it's lower down. Still it won't stop skeletor from trying to infiltrate the castle.

The custom Spikor and Clawjaw both looked really good. I don't know why Mattel doesn't lean harder into stylising the He-Man designs for established characters? Some of those movie concept pieces we looked at a while back, stuff like that. Both of the new He-Man cartoons don't really look like they are deviating too much beyond 200X.

Really?.... Sorry I forgot you are more of a NA fan but...that really is a perfect song for an 80's revival. So many fan reactions of men in their 40's nearly in tears of joy, and I can't blame them. Of course I know that wont be in the show (it would be a little silly if it was), but it was more symbolism than anything else. So many of us in the "we hope this is really what the show is", and they don't pull a bait-and-switch at the last minute.

With most of the comic book industry, animation, and now starting in films also, taking so many pop culture icons/brands and ruining them "we need a Hero" is more appropriate now than ever before.

I suppose it is a context sensitive thing. Not just from NA, which had an appropriate adventurous theme song. But 200X, didn't sound like that either. As this looks similar to 200X I made that association and it raised an eyebrow.

I mean considering two series have existed since Filmation, the "40 years" bit was an odd thing to add to the trailer.

Yeah, that is the one ting I will concede. I agree with a few comments I saw about the "After 40 years" thing, because 20 years ago (coincidentally for the 20th anniversary of MOTU), we got a really awesome update to MOTU (I honestly like it better than the Filmation series). But CN didn't know how to market it. Although I will give them credit they tried initially, even marathoning the first 10 episodes all one saturday afternoon/evening. It was a great series that deserved a much longer run.

Also the 3D/cell shaded models of the vehicles look amazing in that teaser. I just wonder though...they MUST have had someone who knew MOTU lore on the writing staff right? I mean I know vehicles can be "stolen", but I wonder if they mistakenly thought Bashasaurus was a vehicle for the Evil Warriors (as piloted by Beast Man in the trailer), when in fact it was a Heroic vehicle, and the counter to the Land Shark (also seen on that trailer)...??

You would have thought if Smith intended this to be a strict Filmation revival, lore details like that would matter.
