MOTU

Do you collect other toys besides Transformers? Maybe you've got a Masters of the Universe collection you'd like to show off, or maybe you like Thundercats, Voltron, G.I.Joe, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Wrestling, or any of the various comic book toy lines. Please keep the discussions here to non-Transformers toy lines.

Still a nice looking figure though. i was kinda wondering who was the female muntant that appeared for 2 second s in the first episode hahah. I missed out on a Mara the other day, I'm definitely interested in seeing how NA handles the power sword as the slim/slight/no connection at tall to the Mara/She-ra in Netflix She-ra.

I picked up a LoP Origins Mer-man whilst it's still at £15 despite having the TV super7 figure. Nice figure even if the yellow paints a bit messy and patchy in places. I'm still baffled why they didnt improve origins figures to have sheaths/weapon carrying ability on the harnesses etc.

Wiki Grayskull wrote:Mara would also be used in the 2018 series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. In this series, Mara was actually a past incarnation of She-Ra. In her civilian form, Mara wore a variation of her blue battle armour. In an interview at Comic-2019, showrunner Noelle Stevenson confirmed that the character of Mara was a direct reference to the New Adventures.

the boardgame may look uber cool but just a reminder its's by a company that has ties and a history of not fulfilling campaigns and people seieng nothing for their money (and probably why it's not on Kickstarter).

I'm waiting for CMONS despite the above looking good.

Listings for more origins figures, prices are at £21 and £25 for deluxes so is a second price hike lloming or just Zavi being weird.

Sun Man is a definite oddity with it being based off a KO He-man figure line and if it opens up origins to getting fogures that previous lines didnt do or have, all the better!

Most of the others have been teassed on previous figures but looks a solid list of near enough two waves and a vehicle (stridor).

Anti eternia heman, buzzoff, stratos (lop?) Horde trooper, clawfull, sorceress etc

more revelations listings, of note to me is scareglow (at least SDCC scareglow isnt that bad if a retail version exists) and a crazy price point trap jaw (I dont think god skeletor or fakor are worth the price hikes and they seem like they can apply to any character rather than them being the lower retail priced figures)

Motu had a baby with Overwatch...and...I LIKE IT :)

New figures shown too
https://www.facebook.com/kapowtoys.co.u ... 558299139/

Trapjaw looks to have borrowed his arnm from a space marine and his mouth from Leach. Manatarms looks way better than the revelations figure but is lacking green. LSD Skeletor on Bike seems a 200X nod, and some of the characters look New adventures influenced.

The best part of the trailer, Skeletor doesnt sound like Joker XD plus Keldor seems a smugg ass. Evil lynn seems spot on too. Okay the best part of the trailer is that it doesnt have the stench or name of Kevin smith attached to it.

Looks like ass, but I know it's not for me. Of course, I'm still pretty raw from Kevin Smith's B.S. because the show that was supposed to be "for me", turned out to be a big fat lie.

Anyway, they ruined MOTU for adults, now they are ruining it for kids. What is Paramount going to inherit in 2023? A Dead franchise?

ON the flip side, because of the negative buzz, I'm starting to see Revelation toys, where I never saw any before, because nobody is buying them.

This is also an unprecedented year for NA fans. Going from 3rd overall well liked series, of 3, Now becoming instantly 3 of 5 in a matter of a couple months. Not too bad. :-D .

I'd be disapointed if I thought anything Kevin Smith did was aimed at me hahahah. From what I've heard of revelations figures joints and Jaundice He-man, I'm not expecting good things for them and might avoid them completely like the show (tho I cant refuse a stinky stinkor).

I'm really liking Orkos new look. Berbils were awesome in bandais 200X Thundercats and Orko might top them. Should make for a great kids toy now/if that evil Sith child craze has died down XD

At least I'll pick up the snake throne chair, battle armor he-man, trapjaw, skeletor and a few others from whats shown so far. Man at arms may end up being bulk purchases as Mermistas gaurds or something.

The New Retro line has Scareglow for sure, and it looks amazing. Not sure about Revelation, although he is pretty important in one episode, so I imagine one is coming (if not already out?). Not sure about the kids CG show.

It isn't, I just happen to know AllNewSuperRobot is a big fan ;) .

But what is happening with Revelation and the new MOTU trailer for the kids show that dropped yesterday isn't unlike SW fan rage against the sequel trilogy. The Prequel trilogy had it's haters, but now it doesn't look so bad when compared with VII-IX.

The same with NA. Although I'd say it's more indifference than hate, as it's more often forgotten than anything else. But with all the negativity around the 2 new series, that instantly gives NA some credibility where little to none existed before.

While I I grew up with the original MOTU in 1983, I strongly believe the 2002 series (often referred to as 200X), is the best interpretation. Fans seem to go back and forth between the original and 2002 though as to which they like best, with NA as a distant 3rd, and the 2 new series for this year as "worst ever" for differing reasons.

Revelations has the SDCC Scareglow and what looks to be a retail version later. I think Super 7s glow in the dark stuff is a little bit better than Mattels but the classics scareglow is likely crazy prices. Origins scareglow gets restocked occasionally by stores/Amazon but scalpers try to make £10-£15 profit on him but he's the cheapest at the mo. There is even Mondos if you are feeling rich (and will still likely be cheaper than classics or original).

If I had to rate the visual media in order of likes (not having any dislikes) 200X wins it, then Netflix she-ra (despite my feelings of the ending and really unneeded homosexuality), original she-ra (despite its homophobic dragon episode), original He-man, 80's film.

I've not continued watching new adventures yet to rate it, and original he-man might even drop a bit due to repetitivenes allowing NA to be higher than it. Revelations will remain unwatched and never be in my list of visual media (I'll take the viewmaster toys with stills from the 80s shows over it any day of the week XD). New Kids cartoon could end up anywhere in the list but it's unlikely to beat 200X or it could even be the first motu thing that I'd dislike.

Toywise, the original new adventures will always be my least favorite just because they didnt fit with other MOTU(I'm wanting the classics one tho or if they do new origins ones!) with 200X toys being my favorite. Hopefully Masterverse figures does more than just revelations characters soon and it might even be nice to have some of the kids stuff make the cross over to that line.

I lump original She-Ra in with MOTU. Of course the focus was different, but it was the same animation studio, in the same continuity etc...

I guess I feel the same way about Netflix She-Ra as you do about Revelation, I didn't even count it on my list of Media, it doesn't even exist in my mind.

AS much as I felt betrayed by Revelation, and how off-putting, the newest kids MOTU trailer looks, I can acknowledge they exist. That other "She-Ra" though, nope, it doesn't even register.

As for the live action film, I place it in it's own category. I can't compare it to other MOTU shows, just like I don't compare TF live action movies to animated series, it is just 2 different mediums. I am more apt to compare the 1987 film, to other films of the same era. Still I own the Blu ray, it is not a good film by any means, but I can't help enjoying it. ;) .

Sadly, Origins Scareglow (while a great option) is very costly for me since he isn't offered locally. I must import him from other sites where he is already selling for more than retail. My only hope is that he is released in Canada.
And yeah, looking forward to Revelations Scareglow. I know people have issues with the show for the overall premise of "Phsyche!" but it seems there was a universal agreement that the best episode was the Scareglow one. Really love everything dealing with Orco on that one and that is one hell of a feat.

Also, I had never watched the Kevin Smith He-Man Netflix trailer until now and daaaaaaamn. Talk about setting yourself up for defeat. It feels almost trollish (only thing stoping me from saying it's a pure troll move is the idea of Mattel interference to promote their main character no matter what the show has).

For an overall bad series, yeah episode 4 (with Scareglow) is decent, and I'd even say Episode 5 was pretty good until the very end.

Scareglow is for sure the breakout character of that first 5 episodes, was nice to see him in animation. The only downer to that episode was; Scareglow gets his power from fear (makes sense right?) Basically Teela's greatest fear was just being "too awesome" for herself  .

I didn't see it like that. I thought she was afraid she could never live up to He Man and save the world as he so easily would. But to be frank, the Teela segment was not great. What makes that episode so awesome is the whole Orco and Evil Lyn bit that really pays off against Scareglow.

Can we talk about this new Netflix kids show again? I think it looks fun. My kids did not like Revelation and found it super boring, but my three year old really engaged with this CG show trailer. He wanted to watch it right away and was sad when I told him it was not released yet. Even my wife likes it since it gives her that Shazam feel (the original captain marvel /Shazam is our shared favourite superhero as husband and wife, we just love the purity of that concept). I really look forward to watching it with my kids. Plus we get some sweet David Kaye voice actor action and I'm all for that :)

Regarding the toys, I do think those larger toys of He Man look really off. Ok with the smaller ones, the lack of articulation kinda works in their favour by never giving what could easily be a very ugly pose.

Edit: More rambling. This other He Man show pisses me off in a way where there is not one but 2 competently made shows of the same damn 80s toy franchise on netflix while Transformers doesn't even have 1 show with competent production value. The story and plots may be polarising in revelation, and the tone is totally differnent on this CG reboot but that's only the main talking points because there is decent animation and voice acting that allow us to actually consider them. Hasbro has more money than mattel, why are they settling for such garbage production value on their TF content, like not even going union for voice actors?! We didn't get David kaye in Kingdom (which as it turns out might have been for the best, but I digress) and he shows up on this He man show instead. Like damn son, why is Mattel outshining Hasbro in terms of quality?!

I'm liking the CGI show look, the figures are $8 for the basic range. Toys at toy prices is always a good thing especially for a kids show (or even not, with Lanards neat aliens and predators). Kinda takes me back to to toybiz/kenner times. A cheap, available line up and something kids would watch has a lot going for it to me.

I'm getting the aesthetics aren't for everyone.
Kinda Darksiders game/Street sharks style 90s look to them and cheese actions (man, I've missed cheesy actions - as much as I enjoy toy story Andy didn't have one toy that fired a missile, ruins realism of it haha). Voice acting is sounding good and I'm sure some won't fit my minds imaginations of what fits a character. I'm really liking Orco but at the same time I don't want Mattel to bumblebee him and have him be a robot in every other media - tho if it's easier to do him that way in a film, go for it. We had gwyldor haha and that approach could be done well - probably not by bay or anyone involved with sqweeks tho!
A lot of it will come down to the writers/creators, hopefully in the style of j micheal straczynski and voltron/Shera had more series than I thought they would (especially as little to no support by a toy franchise). Usually good things or things getting good (reboot live action for one) don't get more than two series, wishing this well. It hasn't set any off my biases or grumps off and even if it did at least I'd watch it and give it a chance (sorry, not sorry Revelations).

Mattels distribution of origins is sporadic but I've managed to find them all for retail price or under (touch wood), which places have stocked them. Exclusives are always a pain, and yes origins has them :( the kids line hopefully won't have (origins had powercon exclusives before the line Evan began). This is another thi g I like about the CGI toys so far. The Netflix She-ra toys didn't even get a wide release in the states nevermind a glimpse of them over seas, I don't even know what was available :( (double trouble is the stand out on that show for me) and like the CGI toys aren't exclusives (haven't checked if walmart only so this whole paragraph might be moot) unlike netflix transformers that's more accessibility and age range focussed. Even rescue bots had some stupidly hard to get garbage trucks or something like and the transforming boat was almost unseen here for standard retail toys.

Mattels seems to be heading the right direction, no crappy Matty collectors club, no overpriced toys to begin with, availability, no licences to companies that overcharge (s7 etc). I know the complaints of stores only having heman/skeletor but that's the Toys that you always want available for motu just as much as optimus/megatron for transformers.

Just learnt that the exclusive Revelations Scareglow doesn't actually glow in the dark aside from his head. So maybe the retail release will and that will be the main difference.

that's a sheme on the SDCC Scareglow :(

Mattels doing a limited run of characters that never had figures for street sharks ($75 EACH!!!), Clambo is AWESOME same with the Piranha guy but would probably fit in better with TMNT than MOTU

https://creations.mattel.com/pages/mc-d ... eet-sharks

Gives me hope for more obascure and likely ridiculously pricey MOTU characters though

One of the only pictures I found online of the whole NA [figure] collection. As you can see, while Classics did add a figure for Mara and Crita that were not originally present. There were a lot that were left out of the line. Four Space Mutants (and trooper) and two Skeletor variants. A lot more of the Galactic Guardians too. Including the amazing Sagitar...

Speaking of Scareglow:

Although I don't always agree with his opinions, I appreciate he always has a positive spin, even on the negative aspects of the brand, and his experience shines through in his videos.

This other He Man show pisses me off in a way where there is not one but 2 competently made shows of the same damn 80s toy franchise on Netflix while Transformers doesn't even have 1 show with competent production value. The story and plots may be polarizing in revelation, and the tone is totally different on this CG reboot but that's only the main talking points because there is decent animation and voice acting that allow us to actually consider them.

While I am not down on the WFC trilogy as most, I absolutely do recognize it had many issues, including Budget, writing, voice direction and talent just to name a few.

I am absolutely puzzled as well. Since Prime ended in 2013, Hasbro, seems determined not to throw any more money to promote an animated series than they need to. Perhaps as some others have said, "people are going to buy the toys anyway" which is why each successive series seems to have a cut rate production value. Although to be fair, WFC was a step up from Prime Wars, just not nearly enough to be considered well done.

I've been preaching for years, that Hasbro should follow Warner/DC's formula of producing 2-3 animated films per year, and cull them from all continuities of Transformers 35+ year history. Produce a new film that 100% genuinely takes place in the Sunbow original animated series continuity. Do one that is taken from Marvel UK, one for G2, Beast Wars, Armada, DW etc... Heck they could even alternate. Maybe do one movie per year that is from the fictional archives of past Transformers series and comics, and one film per year that promotes whatever Generations toy brand is represented that year. Then still keep a current low budget TV show for the mainline series designed to attract kids/new fans.
Bucket/Want List: Botcon 2016 Customization Class Ratchet (G2 Deco), or Customization Class Ratchet (Marvel Comics Deco) **would also be willing to pay for an Unpainted Botcon 2016 Ratchet, TT Legends Fortress Head (only) with working Electronics

Wish List of Modern Combiners: Road Caesar, Monstructor & Dinoking (proper size to fiction), Landcross, Guard City, Battle Gaia, & G2 Defensor. Wish List of Titans:Metrotitan,Majin Zarak
