MOTU

Do you collect other toys besides Transformers? Maybe you've got a Masters of the Universe collection you'd like to show off, or maybe you like Thundercats, Voltron, G.I.Joe, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Wrestling, or any of the various comic book toy lines. Please keep the discussions here to non-Transformers toy lines.

Picked these up mainly because I'll never spend the money the originals are going for. Both are really nice, and really back heavy with the battery packs just like the originals must be. If they could have used smaller batteries or better still have a USB port with changable leds these guys would perma be set to on. They can have constant light or flash.

Skeletor is especially nice with it kind of semi being new adventures (they can't seem to make their mind up on his eye colors over the first six episodes I've watched).

I'm finding new adventures okay, skeletor cool even if he doesn't seem to be anything like OG and my only problem is optimus primal shouting I have the poweerrr. One of the scientists is the guy who voices everything included the slightly homophobic dragon in original Shera hahaha

Just curious, I know origins release order doesn't exactly follow the same schedule as the original series, and they even have some variants the original series didn't have.

However... I know they have done original & Battle-Armor for both He-Man & Skeletor.

Now that Flying Fists He-Man & and Terror Claw Skeletor are coming out, did they already do Thunder-Punch He-Man & Dragon Blaster Skeletor? I also saw they did Buzzsaw Hordak (a shame the busszaw mechanism is so lame on the new release) Did they do Hurricane Hordak yet?
Bucket/Want List: Botcon 2016 Customization Class Ratchet (G2 Deco), or Customization Class Ratchet (Marvel Comics Deco) **would also be willing to pay for an Unpainted Botcon 2016 Ratchet, TT Legends Fortress Head (only) with working Electronics

Wish List of Modern Combiners: Road Caesar, Monstructor & Dinoking (proper size to fiction), Landcross, Guard City, Battle Gaia, & G2 Defensor. Wish List of Titans:Metrotitan,Majin Zarak

Not yet but they have the tooling for dragon blaster skeletors dragon (comes with masters of the WWE ricky the dragon steamboat wave 6?). TC skels claws were included with HHH in wave 1 so there doesnt seem to be any kind of predictable order.
They have quite a few more things pretooled in the wwe line up but they might get changed like the battle armor plates or not used at all.

The 'deluxe' figures are weird release wise too with usually two at the same time per every other wave
so far:
BA heman/BA skel,
Ram man/clamp champ,
buzz hordak (on his own?),
mosquito/Eternian guard -even if it was packed differently/exclusive its pretty much a deluxe,
FF heman/TC skel.

Exclusive sunman is probably a deluxe too but not sure if that will mean one less retail deluxe or actually balances the numbers.

Hard to tell what counts or will count as a deluxe figure wise, they could easily have given ninjor a spare jitsu head and had it as deluxe. Plus waves are likely going to start including sunman and his enemies too so that could be less motu per wave.

Other than the crazy scalped/priced powercon stuff it's been a pleasant enough line to collect so far with only the deluxes having to be ordered online as I'm yet to see them in retail.

Motu Series skeletor and He-man out at Smyths, no sign of Orco or the others yet (they have man at arms on back of the card despite theere being no listing on smyths for him and he oisnt included in the wave with them) £15 each.

They do seem to measure up height wise with origins but they really needed to be a lot cheaper than origins imho at £12 max. I'll be picking a few up but not the full range.

Love Skeletor's articulated face! Probably wont by these, maybe if there's a really good discount somewhere.

This display has been in the works for a while but now it's finally done.

The glorious Masters of the Universe stories anthology!

Image

I have loved He-Man since I was a wee lad back in the early 1980's but I never, ever had any toys of the franchise. That is, until MOTU Origins happened. I was late to the party so I missed out on the earlier waves. I find the concept amazing to take the look of the original vintage toys but remaking them with modern joints. Now the characters have knees, elbows, ankles, and more. No longer do they rely on a rubber band to attach their legs on their hips. I wish such a concept could be used for Transformers.

So this display is a mix-n-match between the modern Origins remakes and some authentic vintage ones (bought at high cost from eBay.) I dug up my old vintage Castle Grayskull shell that I bought from a thrift store years ago to complement the Origins version. Both castles fit perfectly on my shelf.

Now, let's begin the stories scene by scene.

------------

We begin with a "dance party" with Leech and Mossman. Both are vintage. They were dancing on top of Castle Grayskull in victory because they succeeded at infiltrating the castle! But the party was short lived when poor Leech got an unbearable pain when his tendons in his hips suddenly snapped with his legs just hanging in there. Leech is about to collapse while Mossman is concerned for his friend. Maybe they should cancel their "evil" plans and ask the master of the Castle, Sorceress, for help.

Image

Fisto and Mantenna were fighting. Fisto was having some trouble. Fisto was shouting to Mantenna that he will "fist him hard!" Fisto didn't understand why Mantenna called him a "pervert" in response. The fight ended when Fisto held to his promise by fisting Mantenna really hard with his fisting device!

Image

Today, Clamp Champ left his clamps at home to have a fun ride on a Sky Sled. zooming around and doing target practice on random rocks. Then he happened upon a large group of Skeletor's robot minions. "Now THAT'S more like it!" he said as he began shooting with glee.

Image

Skeletor riding Panthor is challenging He-Man to a duel. You will never defeat me, He-Man! I'll throw you off your Battlecat with my mighty spells! "You are welcome to try, Skeletor." responded He-Man. "Now let's have a clean fight!"
"Yes, a clean fight indeed!" laughed Skeletor.

Image
Image

"Now I have you!" bellowed Beast-Man. "Surrender and your death will be painless!"
"You really think you've got me?" snarkily responded Man-at-Arms. "I got YOU!" Then he tugged hard on Beast-Man's whip making his enemy tumble.

Image

Mer-Man was about to attack the poor Orko! But Orko unleashed his powerful spell of oily floor! Sure, this is a low level spell, but oh so effective!

Image
(BTW, I couldn't find the regular Orko. He's too big anyway for my tastes and the Eternia Mini version is just perfect.)

Ram-Man may appear chubby and clumsy, but he's one of the fastest soldiers in the King's army. Trap-Jaw (vintage) learned it the very, very HARD way.

Image

Hordak, the ultimate evil in the MOTU universe noticed the King's spy drone passing by. He couldn't help himself but to tease his opponents.

Image

Prince Adam was shocked to see "himself" sitting in Castle Grayskull's throne. "Impostor! Leave this place at once!" said an angry Adam.
"I don't know what you're talking about, my Prince. I'm He-Man. I belong here." responded He-Man.
"I'll expose you for the FAKER that you are!" shouted Adam.
"We will see." laughed the confident He-Man.

Image

"I am the most powerful sorceress in the land!" cried Evil-Lyn.
"My name is Sorceress for a reason." responded Sorceress.
"I'll show you my powerful magic!" raged Evil-Lyn.
"I'll counter yours with mine!" shouted back Sorceress.
Then they proceeded to beat each other with their stick.

Image

Last one.
Kronis and Keldor used a time-traveling gadget to infiltrate Castle Grayskull in order to steal the MacGuffin Device. Sneaking silently, they were close to get it.
"Kronis, your time-traveling gadget coupled with the MacGuffin device will give us power enough to overthrow my master, Hordak!" whispered Keldor in Kronis's ear. "You will be rewarded handsomely."
Kronis responded full of confidence: "Yes, Keldor. this new magical machine will be the best in the universe! No way this will blow up in our faces, I guarantee it!"

Image
(Spoilers alert, that device did blow up in their face, turning Kronis into Trap-Jaw and Keldor into Skeletor.)

My stories are basic and cringe, but I don't care when I'm having fun!

Oh, by the way I have Armor He-Man and Skeletor still sealed because I have no idea where to fit them.

Come see my latest creation, a Galvatron Combiner using 4 SS86 Sweeps as limbs HERE!

Also, an update to my old ALL HELICOPER VICTORION!

T Mark Taylor, He-Man and Masters of the Universe toy designer, dies aged 80

T Mark Taylor, artist and toy designer for the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe franchise as well as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, has died of heart failure at his home in southern California. He was 80.

He-Man was the muscled frontman for toy manufacturer Mattel’s Masters of the Universe franchise, which would later spawn an animated series that became a staple for children.
As in the case of many creative endeavours, many hands shaped the franchise. Taylor has said the prototypes date back to his own childhood as he fantasised about being “the next hero”. He said he based the concept of He-Man on his vision of Cro-Magnon men, as well as Vikings.

Mattel sold more than 70m action figures from its Masters of the Universe collection within 30 months of it hitting stores nearly 40 years ago, according to The New York Times.

Taylor began his career with California-based Mattel in 1976 as a packaging designer, his family said.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise – featuring pizza-loving Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael and Leonardo – launched a long-running animated series, live-action movies and a catchphrase: cowabunga!

While Taylor did not create any of the characters, his work as a designer helped propel them into famous childhood images for many around the world, including action figures and costumes that flew off stores’ shelves.

Terrell Mark Taylor – who went by his middle name, Mark – was born on 5 June 1941, according to California voter registration records. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, designer Rebecca Salari-Taylor of Ranchos Palos Verdes.

“I felt him say goodbye to this world as I held him in my arms for one final loving kiss,” Salari-Taylor wrote in a Facebook post.

Taylor’s family said his father-in-law, Tony Salari, told the artist: “If you can draw well, everything will be OK.”

Taylor took pinstriping commissions for “hot rod” cars as a teen in Redondo Beach in the early 1950s, his family said. He later attended the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena.

Taylor went on to work for the US defence department in Pasadena and contributed to projects for submarines, biological and technical sonar technology and seafloor mapping, his family said.

“If I was going to do a hero for today, it would be a female hero – because it’s the time, because the heroes of our time are women … Us men had our day,” Taylor told fans during an appearance at a He-Man festival in 2015.

Wave 8 (chyna, Rey Mysterio, Trap jaw Stone cold) of WWE Motu up for pre order on BBTS and not sold out in hours unlike Wave 7.
*might help that Rey and stone cold already had MOTU figures

https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/ ... ils/188334

Ordered some for my friend to stash as well as Classics twistoid/rotor and Tuskor (my first NA figure wooop). Plus as a thanks? I've ordered her little girl a Stinkor. Just hoping it stinks hahahhaha

Had a really bad QC issue with Panthors face in the Megabloks point dread set :( but hoping a friend that bought me a duplicate for xmas still has his receipt as I took a panthor from that one.

Yeah, I ordered WWE wave 8 a few days ago as soon as I saw it go up, wasn't fast enough when I got the wave 7 notice. Not trying to complete this line or anything, but buying sets is the only way to be sure to get the figures you want, be it regular MotU or WWE.

Strangely MotU wave 8 isn't available as a set on BBTS, I had to order each figure individually.

Weird, I got wave 8 as a set on Bbts as Chyna was sold out on her own.

Smyths have got series battlecat at £26 (more than origins) and the $11 figures being £15 over here is crazy when the 5 point articulation stuff has meant to be cheaper/toy priced. I'm sure the snake chaos/Throne thing is $50 in store at target at the mo which also seems pricey compared to origins grayskull.

I accidently knocked point dreads ships radar behind my shelves but it does look pretty good on origins castle and the scale workswith out displaying origins figures on it.

Smyths have series Evil Lyn and Sorceress in -admittedly I didnt look too hard for Orco becasue I would have ended up paying £15 for the $11 toy. I spent the time searching Marvel Legends figures for a black costume symbiote spidey but to no avail as they have the new wave in.

The figures you posted look good. But I've never been a fan of those with electronics built in. Too many Cyclops' and those like him, as a kid. That give up a lot of articulation for a short lived gimmick.

The eye thing was weird. I assume it was done to humanise Skeletor, a little. The white eyes give him a more comedic expression. Visually, I thought he looks a lot better when they ditch that.

Campbell Lane was easily the highlight of the NA voices. Certainly his own entity and not strictly a continuation of Oppenheimer's character. Upon rewatch, Garry Chalk is the weak link. Since Primal, I just can't hear him as He-Man. I dunno? If this had been the initially planned He-Ro series, that might not have been so jarring?

As an aside, I swore off Marvel Legends years ago. Until recently when I saw this guy announced:

Yeagh, they remind me of another 90s figure that had a big battery pack but I cant remember what it was. Strange when they could have changed the classics to watch batteries or even usb. Also strange is that lazer he-man doesnt come with an arm gauntlet to look like the original figure.

Advantages of using generic bodies for X character having said that he looks to be pinless and a lot of other characters with arm detailing (including power rangers) should really use the pinless body type. I just can't buy into them (ML) for storage or sanity reasons with having the toybiz stuff but it is nice when effort is being put into them.

I think the Classics answer to it was to keep the big backpack for the aesthetic homage. But some of their design decisions were odd in retrospect. Karate, for example, had very distinct armour on his legs. They chose just to repaint Trap Jaw's instead? The buck reuse was counter-intuitive to the NA designs, for the most part. Which does remind me, this year I should probably get the two Optik variants and wrap up my NA Space Mutants collection.

I was heavily into ML via Toy Biz. Soon ran out of space. I've had to downsize so many collections over the years. Might have to again soon to be honest. Likewise to Maggott, this one too caught my eye. As I had the original figure:

Smyths have started to get Origins Stridor in. supposedly the store I went into has three of them but I didnt even see them. A bit pricey at £35 but I'm likely to pick it up as my first horse/vehicle.

Also photos out of Series Man E Faces out. always thought he kinda looked Native American as much as an Eternian can anyways. New but slightly different look to him and I'm liking it. The faces rotate differently to his past itterations.

The Beast face looks a little underwhelming. A bit like an afterthought given the detail in the other two.

Interesting...has the 2nd season of the CG show come out? or does it have a release date? I quit Netflix before Revelation part 2 came out (no desire to watch it), but I would like to see S2 of the CG show when it comes out, I have other friends with Netflix I can mooch off of ;) .

I saw this recently - Barbarian Skeletor. Alongside a pairing between him and Viking He-Man and I quite like the design. Not so much He-Man. As it looks like a standard design, plus Viking helm. But this armoured design compliments the classic Skeletor look, while adding something new.
