We all hate Ironside’s hip flaps. They aren’t cartoon accurate and they restrict his outward hip movement. They also leave an ugly gap under his arm which bothered me a great deal. I’ve seen a fix that turned him into a parts former *turns head and spits* and another that involved making folding arms for them so they could swing around to the back. These will be available as an upgrade set but I don’t want to spend extra money on him, I don’t think my skills are good enough to make those folding arms well enough, and I don’t like the way it gives such a contrast between bulky body and tiny pelvis so I set about finding a simpler fix. It’s not perfect, maybe it’s not as good as the folding arm fix but I think it’s an improvement as it frees up the thighs and smoothes the transition from torso to trunk.
I wasn’t keen on his ‘diaper’ either, but then, who is? I’ve seen a fix that involves cutting off the front section, removing the top and then putting most of the front section back, but I didn’t like the way it exposed the hip joints so I just trimmed some off the ‘skirt flaps’ to make them more cartoon accurate. Sadly it’s not enough of a change to make it look less nappyish.
I wasn’t happy about his poseability in general so I gave him the KFC upgrade hands and improved the knees and neck. If the designer had simply left out some plastic I wouldn’t have needed to do these last steps.
This is how he looks from the front if you rotate the wheel up without removing the surplus plastic.
