Personally is would stick with one word for the time being for more of a test run. The phrase may take a bit to get done. If we can somehow tie these events into the narrative sustain and psychout been running, the better. If we really want to make things a little more complicated, each side has their own words they need to make.

Well on that note, what if we take turbo's idea and make it simpler?

Alphabet hunting: each side must SL bots who's names start with different letters of the alphabet. For instance, using my team, Altius Prime would be "A", Boltbrain could be "B", Dragonslayer "D", and so on.

We'd again run into the problem Psychout mentioned with letters like Q, X, Y, and Z, even in that case.

Maybe, after deciding what month this game would be played, the word could be something pertinent to that month to be determined at that time?
Current Status: Anticipating a possible absence from HMW for a few days after Thanksgiving due to family reasons.

Ah, tournament ideas! With the summer has come a lack of activity and planning. Life can get busy, so there's less time for it. There is a LOT that goes into the events, especially regarding the rules and trying to find a way to score that won't penalize participants for their level, alt choices, or ability/willingness to play. This thread is proof of that.

So, with that said, I'd like to propose an idea that was suggested by Overwatch. I'm writing it here to see if there is interest. If so, I'll do the legwork on setting it up so that it can be used for an event at a later time.

We all enjoyed the scalp hunt, yes? Most of us? His idea proposes mixing the scalp hunt with an alt hunt. Hear him out here:

RULES:

1) All alts in the game would be tied to different categories (as many as we can think of). Larger categories (such as cars) would likely need to be limited in quantity per category but the alts listed for each category. A set limit could be made to the number of alts in each category. (examples might include flying animals, cars 1, "helpful" animals, pyramid aircraft, etc)

2) Points are limited to the number of characters you have. For example, I can only gain 12 points total.

3) Each character on a participant's team would choose a different category to hunt. That character, specifically, must SL alts from that category. After 10 kills have been logged, the player gains 1 point for their faction. The character can SL the same target for multiple credit (example: Steelsong for helpful animals can be SL'd 5 times and count for 5/10 of the scalps).

Example: Contingency is locked into hunting medic air animals. Nightwing is a valid target for that category. Contingency SL's Nightwing 3 times. It counts for 3/10.

4) All categories would be made well ahead of time and choices would be made and recorded before the first counting mission. There would be no changing midway through.

Benefits:

1) Players aren't penalized as much by level, since the level of the target SL'd doesn't matter.

2) Points are limited per player. This means that lower level players have the ability to contribute just as much as the higher level players.

3) With all alts in multiple categories, there is no way for players to "hide". If they want points, they have to deploy, making them available for other people.

4) Minimal work for the player. Just link to a mission where your character SL'd his target.

5) Players can choose categories for alts they see the most at their level, so they aren't reliant of seeing the alts in Hell Missions.

It's an idea that crossed my mind, but I wondered if it would give choosing certain categories an advantage over others when writing this up.

1) There are a lot more light vehicles than there are say...dangerous land animals. More to choose from, so everyone would choose the same things to hunt. (which isn't technically a bad thing)

2) By incorporating the smaller categories in with the larger ones, it means that no alt is safe.


It had crossed my mind just to make 12 categories, period, to lessen confusion, but all alts would need to be incorporated into those 12 categories. Thinking more about it, it may make more sense to do it that way. Those with fewer than 12 characters would just have to pick, but they would still be hunted by others.

If I'm understanding correctly:

Player has 12 characters.

There are 6 categories, where every alt in the game is divided into 1 of them.

Player can assign the same category to 2 characters.

Example:

Character 1 - Category 1
Character 2 - Category 2
Character 3 - Category 3
Character 4 - Category 4
Character 5 - Category 5
Character 6 - Category 6
Character 7 - Category 1
Character 8 - Category 2
Character 9 - Category 3
Character 10 - Category 4
Character 11 - Category 5
Character 12 - Category 6

Character 1 would need to SL 10 alts from category 1's list to get a point. Character 7 would have the same list of alts.

Unless people that is too simple, in which case we will just find a way to sort it into 12 rather than 6.

Edit: another idea - alphabetical. Pick the first letter of a class. Ie Overwatch will hunt B's; I list scalped Battle Stations and Battleships. Contingecy will hunt T's; I list scalped Tanks.

Just throwing ideas out to see what sticks.

The problem of the six categories is certain alt models don't fit in nicely. For the beasts a good example are dragons. Some dragons could be considered flying while others are definitely land. As for vehicles, you have the weapons and gadgets to sort out.

Good point. So long as the categories are as even, alt-count-wise, as possible, I don't really care which category they belong to. On that same note, there may be a LOT more vehicles than animals, so that might be something to consider, also. Cars and Fighters might end up being categories in their own right, and some categories may consist of both animals and vehicles :lol:

This was mostly to see who was interested and to gather ideas for how the community would like something like this implemented. Will put some decent thought into categorizing once there are enough interested for it to actually take off.
