Much like RhA, I thought that this was a Takara Tomy release. Especially since they did Alternity's "Dai Atras" and the Asian Market "QC variant" (Quality Control joke) Devastator.

But seeing how I still do not like the appearance of the box, do not like both the unneeded chrome and "metallic" paint, and no longer buy Hasbro-based Transformers... Three strikes, and it is definitely out of my collection list.

(Now if Takara Tomy will do an Encore version... Then I'll prepare to have the cash in my hand.)

Last week when I wnet to collect my AM Knockout and Starscream, the hobby shop owner was practically begging me to buy one of these Sixshot reissues.

Didn't buy it, though. Couldn't afford it as a kid back then, so it holds no nostalgic value to me.

Seems like they ain't selling so well in Asia, or at least in my neck of the woods.

As much as I'd love to pick up Sixshot, they're asking far too much. It really is a shame too, when I first heard the words "Sixshot Reissue" I was expecting an affordable solution to my Sixshot problem (i.e. I don't have one :P and I love everything about it). But no luck for the community on that mark.

I didn't realize this was a Hasbro release either. That explains why only one part of it (the chest) have new metallic paint (Takara likely would have painted the entire figure in metallic paints, or at LEAST all the teal/green parts).

I'll keep it in the POL for now, but I'll definitely be considering cancelling, especially if something sweeter comes along that's worth $200 to me between now and then.

I don't know... It's kinda selfish for my part, but I just wish Takara or Hasbro will stop reissuing G1 toys. That's the reason why I'm selling most of my G1 toys, I'm afraid that TF toys I kept will no longer be rare or unique even if it's original. :-(

In the case of Transformers, I have to strongly believe that you should have absolutely no worries about that.

Lets use Predaking as an example: There were the individual box sets, then the first Japanese gift set, the second (first reissue) Japanese giftset, and the third (second reissue) Japanese giftset. The first reissue, in terms of the giftset, was the same packaging but sported an additional label. The second giftset not only sported a completely new box, but also sported what some might refer to as the more "cartoon/anime accurate colors" for the characters in the set.

Beyond that, Takara has a long history of making subtle differences when it comes to reissues. Be it Ginrai or even Henkei! Hot Rodimus. They always try to make the differences be tied to everything or anything from subtle paint/color differences to both the boxing and how it was packaged.

In other words, while I nothing when it comes to Hasbro's work with the franchise these days (besides the difference they do when they issue their own version of certain characters)... I can reassure you that if they do an Encore of Galvatron, Sixshot, Fortress Maximus, or any other character we are clamoring for, they will have changes that keep your collection from losing their uniqueness and value. ;)

Hmmm... Hasbro? Well so it will see regular retail in asia? Preorders from collector shops here (in asia) are not selling well too... Price has gone down $10 since it was listed. Well, you coulld buy a legit g1 for slightly cheaper than that price ...

Wait a sec. The last images we saw of this figure CLEARLY had the TakaraTomy logo on the box. Maybe it's just being distributed by Hasbro Asia instead of "released" by them?

I bet you're right. Even BBTS lists it as 'by Takara' not 'by Hasbro', and I'm pretty sure their supplier IS the manufacturer in the case of both companies, so if it were coming from Hasbro, BBTS would know it because that's who they'd be getting their order/invoice info from for stocking preorders.

I know for a fact that both Takara and Hasbro share the same production company. (Not a good thing, according to one report I have read.) So it does have me wonder if they distribute Takara's line for them outside of Japan.

This itself may explain why Hasbro is promoting the item at this convention, as well as why there have been past items stamped with the Hasbro label. That, or Hasbro took over last minute seeing how they also shown Asian Market exclusive Generations toys at SDCC.

Hmmmm... :-?

I have seen the japanese black jetwing prime's shipment box when i went to get mine. They shipped in the Hasbro box...

Same thing for the united line...

That would be due to the fact that both Hasbro and Takara Tomy share factories in parts of China. And because of that, the two companies have a deal that would make production and shipping be cheaper when... Or if... It is needed. Which itself dates back to the Diaclone days.

And with the boxes you mentioned... It is due to the fact that the UNITED line, much like the Henkei! line before it, are made from the same molds that were used to make the Classic and Generation lines. Same with the movie lines, Animated lines, and Prime. Even though the Prime lines have "Arms Micron" being the different of the batch.

But yeah... Most (if not all) of the more recent Takara Tomy stuff will be shipped out by Hasbro. And my only curious thought on this Sixshot is if the box solely says "Takara Tomy" or if it has "Hasbro" mentioned somewhere on it. >:oP

Thanks for the reminder, Sabrblade. It makes me think that Hasbro might be the one who has the Sixshot mold, and is the one distributing it on behalf of Takara Tomy. And even then, I do not like their decision to make it this way and only recommend it to those who want to have all variations of the character, and have both the U.S. and Japan versions... And want a third one to the set.

And to be honest, this makes me want to do more research on Transformers... As it kind of has that "New Age Diaclone" feel for me. >:oP Namely, we're hearing about variations and reissues of Generation 1 characters, in a similar manner Diaclone and other lines were reissued as Transformers.

Well, counting this release, the G1 Sixshot mold has been released more than just three times.
  • 1987 Hasbro release
  • 1987 Takara release
  • 2002 Takara rerelease
  • 2002 Takara Lucky Draw Sixshot Stealth Mode
  • 2002 Takara Lucky Draw Sixshot Shadow Mode
  • 2012 TakaraTomy Destron Sixshot metallic rerelease

Good point, but I could not count the Lucky Draws as part of this since they were not marketed. And even then, I wonder if a MIB version of either one is cheaper than the new Asian Market version. :P

That, and a MIB 1987 Takara version is rarer than a MIB 1987 Hasbro version. So for the non-hardcore buyer, a collector may just get the 1987 Hasbro version and the 2002 Takara reissue. Which has me wonder if if this is going to be cheaper than just getting the 2012 Asian Market version at one of those stores that want to be rid of them. :P

Bazinga. But seriously though... I wanted to thank you for the dates on those. That, and talking about this has made me hope to find a MISB Takara Sixshot, even though I also hope that they will do an Encore version. :BOOM:

I'd rather pay the extra $35 and buy Sixshot as opposed to the $150 retailers are asking for Artfire. To me, it makes more sense to pay an extra $35 and get 4 more modes. Each to their own, of course.

At that price, they should have given a few extra upgrades, like die-cast parts and rubber tires. Oh well, we'll just have to wait for MP Sixshot (don't tell me it'll never happen, I enjoy my dreams/delusions).

I'm starting to have my doubts about the dates the 3rd party Sixshot is expected to be released. Don't get me wrong, I'm not doubting your information, I just suspect those dates will change and be pushed back considering there's been absolutely nothing more mentioned or "the latest pics" posted of this creation.
