But Scoop looks nothing like Armada Scavenger. He'd be a very poor homage.

But I agree that it shouldn't be redone as Scrapper either, since Scrapper's been dead since the 2009-2011 ongoing.

Yeah, I know it's not a snug fit. I was thinking along the lines of how they repainted Rodimus into Side Burn or Jetfire into Dreadwind. Of course those were TFCC exclusives.

Nope not you, I meant the troll. And we've all established who that is.

Yes and no. They created listings for the figures in answer to TFSource putting theirs up, however they're inactive. I suspect they haven't received solicitation from Hasbro yet.

Twould feel like a cheap cop-out if they went that route.

Scoop isn't working for me. I love that they kept the Targetmaster gimmick (sweet!), I think his vehicle mode looks nice, but his robot mode seems rather plain and his transformation looks to be simplistic.

He's a definite pass until I see a video review.

The Mini-Con Team is the only thing out of this wave that has my interest.

I wouldn't know. I don't read the comics. I've never been a comic fan, outside of having the full run of G2 somewhere in storage, I'm just not a comic person. Like, at all.

Scoop looks fun. I am very excited to get him. Skywarp looks like a great stand in for seeker generics. Might grab two or three. Starscream has got some incredibly hollow forearms. I really think slide out fists would have been a better way to go than leaving that ugly gap. I'll pick up the set of Mini-Cons to satisfy my curiosity. Curious when we'll start seeing some of the stuff to be rumored past these releases. Can't be too much longer. :)

It's just a suffix like "Freeway Jazz", "Stealth Bumblebee", "Recon Barricade", etc. to differentiate this toy from the previous Generations "Starscream" toy. It also just happens to be a double-pun that calls back to the toyline of this toy's inspiration.

I knew you wouldn't be able to help yourself but chime in on that one. I really get the impression you think everyone but you is a lower form of life sometimes. :P I get that it's to differentiate this Starscream from others, and of course I knew of Armada. ****, it's probably my fault for not being explicitly detailed in my "wonder".

I know it's not the same set of circumstances, but I thought of how Hasbro had to change Trailbreaker's name for licensing reasons so far as official packaging goes. However it wasn't until we got the Generations figure that his name was changed in the comics, and that IDW shoehorned an in-fiction reason for the name change. I also recalled how in the first two Iron Man films, that neither Stark's or Rhodes' suits were openly named as Iron Man or War Machine, but that it happened in a very organic way. Basically I was wondering if the word 'Armada' will make any appearance in the comics in relation to Starscream and his schemes.

OK, there's something that's been bothering me for a while now.

Currently Generations is in an idw comic phase and at first I thought that would be pretty damn cool, I mean the idw G1 comics have some really sweet character designs, and the idea of toys actually based on them was fantastic.

But, at the same time Hasbro is trying to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the brand, and for this wants to release new toys based on characters from most TF lines, and then forces them into the idw Generations line. To justify this they cook up this slapped together mess of a comic story that interrupts the ongoing storylines and throws those characters in there, either by having them be new characters or new bodies for established characters.

I think it's stupid. Kinda ruins the integrity of the comics, and is kinda disrespectful to the fans of the characters the designs are supposed to represent, since it will be based around them being the idw G1 guys. Like Armada Starscream here.

I would have preferred them making two lines, the Generations line with the current idw guys, and a 30th line with the guys like Waspinator, Armada Starscream, FOC TC and SW. It would have been far better than this sorry excuse.

And yes, the comic ark is going to be a stupid hastily slapped together mess, that interrupts the ongoing plots, probably thought up earlier this year when they realized that we have the 30th next year.

Dark Prelude was one of the worst TF "story lines" I've ever read. It just stank of being slapped together as fast as possible, and the whole Metroplex quest thing felt so fake and unnatural for the comics, especially seeing in what directions the two series where taking.

While I mostly agree with you...

Well, have you read this? http://tfsource.com/blog/the-power-of-fiction/

Long story short, I would have never considered buying a Chromedome or a Fortress Maximus toy until I was completely hooked on MTMTE.

Meaning? We must never forget both the comics and the tv shows were always intented to be toy ads.

And no, I'm not justifiying anything and I agree with your comment. I mean, I think putting Waspinator in the current continuity was not that bad (as part of that insecticon group with... Bludgeon, wasn't it?) but Armada Starscream? Seriously?

But anyway, lest we forget, this is what Hasbro and TFs have always been about. Marvel is a comics company which gets some extra money from toys made of their characters. Hasbro is a toy company which gets some extra money from comics made of their toys. Like it or not :\

They've been shoe-horning characters into the fiction since 1984. The whole concept of the "Transformers" was "let's take all these existing transforming toys and mash them all into one contrived fictional universe". Since G1, the cartoons and comics have served the role of introducing and advertising the toys they want to sell. Hasbro makes and sells toys.

Yes I know all that, but the difference was that until now, idw didn't do that with their main G1 comics save for the silly body changes during AHM, but that was horrid anyway.

Until now, the idw G1 verse was strictly fiction based, without advertising the toys, and Hasbro said they liked it that way.

But this? Sure Waspinator, Rhinox and Rattrap work, since even the originals where still G1 characters, but stuff like Armada Starscream here and the WFC/FOC bodies is stupid, and the inclusion of the Metroplex plot.

I mean, I don't have anything against them putting in characters that will show up as toys, what I don't like is them doing it badly.

The MTMTE and RID have been doing their own thing, especially MTMTE has been building up to something, which is now getting shoved aside or even cut just to justify this. Metroplex makes no sense the way he's been treated in Dark Cybertron.

I think the focus is still on the fiction - it's the only reason Chromedome and Rewind's relationship could have happened, or characters with entirely religious and genocidal (religiously genocidal?) thoughts exist. It's why Rattrap isn't a "heroic maximal" as far as we, the reader, can tell. It's why one of the Metrotitans is being set up as an eldritch horror in light of the shiny new Metroplex toy.

(And as an aside, I fully expect Metroplex to show up and fight the Metrotitan)

Yeah, Dark Cybertron is pinging my **** radar but it hasn't developed into a toilet wormhole yet. The series is attempting to resolve the issue with the Dead Universe while also attempting to establish Shockwave as major villain - which is more of an homage to Marvel's G1 comic as opposed to selling toys. While Dark Cybertron will sell some toys, my hopes ultimately boil down to loosening whatever restrictions there are on the original Shockwave toy and pushing through a Masterpiece of the figure based on the popularity of the comics.

Having said all of this, I understand and part of me agrees two separate Generation lines would have been ideal. However, at the heart of the Generations line and its Universe parentage; I think it's okay if the toyline encompasses everything about Transformers this past 30 years.

Except the movie stuff. Transforms from car I can never afford to gear vomit inside a loose bowel shell.

I don't really mind what's going on with the comics. I just buy the figures as figures, and they fit into this overall "classics" shelf. Of course, things like armada starscream, or Thundercracker go elsewhere.

But I'm glad they finally made a classics trailbreaker, hoist, and skids. :D
