New Receiving, Show Accurate Rattrap vs. Terrorsaur

Postby Airtigatron » Thu Jan 25, 2007 3:15 pm

Finally got these in the mail today. I have been looking for these forever and they never pop up on ebay, but was lucky a couple weeks back. Part of me is relieved they aren't in the new batch if Beast Wars coming out, but then again, there really isn't that much more that probably would have been done as these are pretty accurate and cost would have probably been similar. And these are more "rare" too.

Here are some quick pics, I think they're great, very happy with them and to finally add'em to the fold!

Btw, Airazor's face, Silverbolt's eyes and parts of Quickstrike I fixed up a bit to match the show more for anyone curious.

Terrasaur was such a disapointment to me. Such a cool character reduced to a spring loaded basic sized figure.

I don't see much of a difference in Rattrap, but Terrorsaur is a really big improvement. How about a side-by side comparison(gallery doesn't have any)? I have a regular Terrorsaur, but man, that is pretty narly how different it is from the original release.

QFT. I was disapointed with him and Rat Trap, both could have been so much better if it wasnt for the gimmick. While the gimmick was cool, it just took so much away.

And both are pretty back heavy too. It's a pain to get Rattrap to stand properly. But both were basics, and launch figures, so the flaws are tolerable. And both got some pretty heavy redesigns in the show.

Yea, Terrorsaur's size always bothered me. Rattraps I was ok with though. The deluxe size probably should have been the smallest they ever went. Here are come comparisons:

Thanks ;)^ . Side by side, the Takara version Terrorsaur is a little bland, but show accurate, so it's good. Paint job is so different, the Hasbro version could easily qualify as a different character, I think.

I like the colors on Terrorsaur (disliked the character, but there you go).

I picked up that set when it first started trickling into the states for $10. I had to buy the Japanese versions of a lot of the first series Beast Wars figures because I got into collecting them a bit late.

See this? It's me being insanely jealous of you.

I didn't even know there was a more show accurate set! I've only ever had bootlegs of the original rattrap and terrorsaur. I only got heavy duty into beast wars until about transmetals/fuzors/transmetals 2 (yeah I know right? So unfair) but I had made some odd choices before that (snarl, magnaboss, drillbit). Thanks to stores like KBtoys I was able to get tm primal and megatron as well as depth charge and rampage. So I missed out on a lot of the first release figures and those were my favorites too. I know everyone else likes the transmetals the most, but for some reason I like the originals more. I think they just looked more iconic or something. They'll always be what I think of when I think of Beast Wars.

Luckily the reissues have brought down the prices of guys like Primal and I've been getting the originals misb dirt cheap on eBay. Unfortunately Rattrap and Terrorsaur are the main 2 in demand figures that haven't gotten rereleased besides scorponok. I repainted my yellow and pink terrorsaur to be more show accurate, both are pieces of crap though. Rattrap came with two left (or right) hands on BOTH knock offs I have of him, and they're not made by the same bootleggers, one has painted rat feet the other doesn't along with some other minor differences. I couldn't believe how crappy they both are, their joints always falling off. So I finally bought a loose rattrap on eBay missing a rat foot and a gun just because I finally had to have him. It's funny because I JUST bought it, and haven't even received it yet, when you posted this.

Sorry this is long winded, I should just say "great score" and be done with it. I just like to ramble.

Actually Id never noticed this set either. Now i want one, my Terrorsaur is missing his gun anyway and my Rattrap has been repainted to be more show accurate. Actual show accurate versions would be great! Thanks for sharing this with us.
