It's been a long time since we've seen Kaiyodo produce a Transformers figure, but they're back! Shown off at Wonder Festival 2019 Winter we're being treated to an all new Revoltech G1 Optimus Prime! Thanks to photos from the event from
@toratora264 on Twitter we're seeing two unpainted gray models and one fully painted figure showing off his abundance of articulation and accessories. From what we can see he comes with multiple hands, his blaster, and an Energon ax. Time will tell if he comes with anything else. When he's released this July the price is a little steep at 7,500 JPY ($68~ USD) for what is likely a roughly 5 inch figure, but will be considerably cheaper after typical Japanese store discounts.
Kaiyodo's last attempt at a G1 style Optimus Prime was first released in 2007 and later reissued in 2014 and was based on the art of
Pat Lee and Dreamwave Comics. You can see the Seibertron.com photo gallery for that figure
here. They would also do figures of Ultra Magnus (white Optimus version), Megatron, Starscream, and Hot Rod. They would also later do two version of live action Dark of the Moon Optimus Prime.
So how do you feel about a new, not Transforming Revoltech Optimus Prime? Exciting? A waste of money? Or are you just indifferent? Sound off in the Energon Pub forums below!
