Nick Roche to Draw Marvel Death's Head II in 2014

In a giant plot twist, freelance and fan-favourite Transformers artist Nick Roche was announced at DICE, the Dublin comic convention, as the artist on a Marvel Death's Head II one-shot comic, written by Andy Lanning. Last February, Roche had tweeted an image of the robot bounty hunter, asking for an artist position - check out the image, coloured by Josh Burcham, below!

It was announced at Saturday’s Marvel Comics panel that Nick Roche will be the new artist on the new Death’s Head one shot comic launching in early 2014.

Roche will be joined on the book by writer Andy Lanning and will be released as a one shot in early 2014, possibly as early as February with the book marking the first time Roche will have worked at Marvel.

The book will be making use of the second iteration of the character Death’s Head II.

Launching the book, which was originally at Marvel UK is part of a planned phased process from Marvel to import the UK properties, long dormant to the US.

In an ironic twist, Roche made a twitter appeal in February asking to be put on the book.

Once more concrete details are given, we will let you know.

I have no idea what is going on in that image.

The more of a presence I see of Death's Head, the more I want to get a toy of him to go with my shelves.

Yes Nick, YES!

Roche's Deaths Head look awesome, but isnt that DH1 not the the somewhat awful replacement/upgrade DH2?

I would guess we may get to see a brief origin story where DH1 becomes DH2 or such like?

Now, as Mindmaster and Im sure many others will agree, we need a Marvel DH1 figure to display alongside our Deluxe/Voyager Transformers!

Excelsior! :-B

Well he's beaten up Machine Man, and is in the process of beating up The Vision ... the others look sort of like Technarchy ... maybe Phalanx.

It would certainly tie in with the Avengers A.I. book.

Marvel UK did an origins story, Minion beat the crap out of DH, and absorbed his personality(as that is what Minion was designed to do, adding them to his own to make a gestalt personality controlled by Minion). Deaths Heads personality over rode the others and became the Dominant personality. Then in the future the remains of the original Deaths Head are found, put back together and tried to be used. The original programming is still present and Deaths Head is reborn. Then boom, you now have two of the same character running around the Marvel U.

Oh and Marvel are bringing out a Deaths Head 1 figure in their line of hero toys in early 2014 ;)

This is really cool, and Roche certainly draws a fantastic Death's Head, but the quote in the article really bugs me. It is most certainly NOT irony that he would get the job after asking for it. If somebody liked how he drew Vision so much that they gave him a job drawing a book about that character instead, that would be ironic, but certainly not this.

Sorry, rant over.

Nice, really looking forward to seeing how this develops.
Hopefully this means we are slightly closer to getting a toy of DHead sometime soon.

I know right! We've had GI Joe vs Transformers crossovers as SDCC exclusives. Why can't we get a couple Marvel vs Transformers exclusives? Death's Head, Circuit Breaker, ...those other characters nobody remembers. Maybe do something fun like repaint Metroplex as a Sentinel for the Transformers side of things.

A cover by Mark Brooks is always a good thing ;)

Congratulations, Nick. I'm sure you'll have a great time drawing DH.

Now bring on that action figure, Hasbro!

I thought it was a pretty underwhelming issue. I guess it was silly of me to expect a one-shot story featuring everyone's favorite obscure character; turns out this issue is part of the buildup to the Big Summer Event. It's basically just an excuse to get the two incarnations of Death's Head to fight, which is a fun enough concept. But it's a rather light read without much substance.

Sadly, it's been the highlight of the whole "Revolutionary War" thing, which up to this point, has been incredibly disappointing.

But hey, at least the get an reference in for "giant robots"

The solicitations for the Marvel books out in July 2017 have been released, which means an old friend of the Transformers has been spotted once more in the cosmic pages of another title. Last we heard of the freelance peace-keeper was in Revolutionary War, at the hands of Nick Roche. This time, it's Saladin Ahmed and Chris Ward's Black Bolt #3! Check out the description below, and a couple of images, yes?

BLACK BOLT #3
SALADIN AHMED (W) • CHRISTIAN WARD (A/C)
VARIANT COVER BY BILL SIENKIEWICZ
PRISON BREAK!
• The prisoners revolt! But are Black Bolt and his unlikely allies simply pawns in a bigger game?
• Plus: Death’s Head! Is he there to help…or hunt?
• And who — or what — is the warden of this strange place? Whatever it is, the Jailer knows only penance and fear. And soon, so will the Silent King!

Nah, not enough for me to want to purchase a Marvel comic again. Now if it was a full on Death's Head series focussing solely on him and build up his own universe with none of the marvel superhero crossover stuff I may be tempted. Even more so if it was by Furman and Senior. I can dream.

Death's Head has appeared multiple times since Revolutionary War. He had a great run in X-men '92 last year, appeared in Nova #3 a couple of months ago and appears in Guardians of the Galaxy: Dream On which is out today. He's definitely getting more exposure, possibly due to an upcoming solo series which was hinted at by Marvel in 2015 though this may have been canned since it's been a while.

I haven't picked up a marvel or DC book in over two years. Just too much crap. I did get nick riches issue he did that starred Deaths Head a few years ago and that was pretty good.

i love that take on DH's original look.

havent bought a marvel book in an age though. its bleeding mental just how quickly you can fall out of that universe. i've been collecting since the 70s FFS and im completely lost as to how to collect the xmen anymore, let alone know WTF is going on in the book. god help a newbie trying to get into the scene

though like others if marvel got furman/senior to do a series i'd be TOTALLY there.
