I was just playing a demo of Tenchu Z, and while I didn't get past the first boss, it was pretty fun running across rooftops and jump down on guys and stealth killing them and watching all the blood squirt out. I didn't like how they're talking in japanese all there is is subtitles. Especially when the guy is talking on and on, but there's only a couple lines of text on screen. Makes me think he's telling more than what's written on screen. But it got me thinking of picking up a ninja game as I've never played one before. Not Tenchu specificly, but what good Ninja games are out there?

Tenchu Z is **** amazing.

Ninja Gaiden is ok

Other than those, I can't recall many ninja games that are awesome. (TMNT is debatable)

Perhaps Shinobi?

Ninja Gaiden is awesome, but it's gotta be the hardest game I've ever played. It's like Devil may Cry 3^∞.

Japanese voices with subtitles > English dubs any day of the week.

Tenchu Z is an incredibly weak game though. The graphics date from 2002, the A.I lacks the I and the whole game just doesn't seem to make sense.
Enemies won't spot you when you are walking in the open a mere 5 meters away from them. I ran aboard the ship once, ignoring all the guards. I was treated with a poor cutscene with some random other ninja dude suddenly appearing and talking some trash, challenging the emo looking ninja. But after the cutscene was over that guy just vanished in thin air. Wtf is up with that? Don't just come in, challenge the enemy and let me do your dirty work you lazy f***.
Not to mention the fact that all the guards came after me, ignoring the emo ninja (who just so happened to kill their boss in the cutscene but I guess they can forgive him for that...) completely and instead ganged up on me. So I ran up the stairs, resulting in a whole mob slashing and hacking the wall below me. None of them figured it would be a good idea to follow me up the stairs. Not even emo "ninja"
Yeeeeeaaaah. No. I won't be buying This game I won't.

Ninja gaiden is wtfpwn awesome though.

Yeah, I loved Tenchu Z for the sole fact that when I rented it, I just sat back and mindlessly killed people. Trying to get all the different deaths was awesome. Although there were a lot of problems. Getting Ninja 5 was wayyyy too easy, even on 3rd difficulty. The AI sucked, I can't think of how many times I killed a guy in front of his friend, picked up the body and walked away without getting an alarm, just a "huh whats that?" thing. And when I turned on blood in the options, it didn't look good at all.

It was fun to see how fast you could get through it without being spotted and such.

As for Ninja Gaiden, I love the game dearly. But dear lord, "normal" is ridiculously hard. It's so awesome that the AI is smart, but it sucks ass that they're so damned smart.

I still haven't beat the game, I was lucky to get past the fiend chick in the church.

Yeah I couldn't get past Alma in the xbox version myself(God I wonder where my copy has gone :-? ). It also helps that I won the game in Gamestop with €40 voucher for coming second in a Rallysport 2 contest  .I just got Sigma on the PS3 when it was released and the difficulty has been toned down quite a bit(additional elixers, save statues, weapons and Muramasa statues), I'm currently in Chapter 17 after defeating Alma for the second time and have gotten Master Ninja on most of the levels.

As for Tenchu, I haven't played Z but I think the first three are class but, Revenge of Shinobi FTW.

Chuck norris once beat Ninja gaiden on hard mode with 2 hands tied behind his back. He already completed the game before the game was done loading the first level.

Yeah I made that up just now.
Ninja gaiden is hard as hell but I love it. I tried doing it on hard mode later on but after getting to the tentacle monster behind the church I was already exhausted and kinda lost interest.

Yup, can't go wrong with Ninja Gaiden, as long as you have the patience.

Another great one is Shinobi for the PS2. It's another one that is pretty damn hard, but definitely worth your time. I love the gushing/spraying blood when you kill your enemies.

Yeah Ninja Gaiden Black is really a good game and if you have a PS3 you can get the upgrade version from Ninja Gaiden Black, Ninja Gaiden Stigma.

If you have a PS2 and like poor texture then Naruto Uzumaki Chronicles is nice, too.

And if you like a funny ninja game then I-Ninja isn't so bad.
But the greatest Ninja game of all still Ninja Gaiden.
