Pacific Rim

I'm really excited for Guillermo Del Toro's giant monsters vs. giant robots flick, out next summer. And apparently the Chinese robot will be none other than a modified version of Bayverse Shockwave. Maybe GDT can do better than Bay. In the movie he is called Crimson Typhoon, so he will be red instead of purple:

Here's Guillermo Del Toro doing commentary on the trailer and giving a bit of back story:

When the trailer went live, I saw it and giggled like a schoolgirl... My 7 year old daughter came up to me and laughed..

Oh yeah, and the Shockwave bot can be seen in the trailer @ 1:09 in the background.

There's only one thing that needs to be said here.

Boat Sword.

Pacific Rim has got to be one of the most enjoyable film experiences I've ever had!

And the score by Ramin Djawadi is just plain old cool 8)

So how much did Del Toro rip off Robot Jox? I'm probably gonna see it Tuesday...

This movie was terrific. It was so much fun, and it looked great, and was full of action.

Sad thing is, it made me think of the Transformers movies as I was leaving the theater. There's actually a decent story going on in Pacific Rim, and it still has action and explosions and all of that stuff that is considered incompatible with these kinds of summer action movies, according to the people who just can't stand the idea that people find fault with the Bay movies. Pacific Rim "somehow" (because apparently these things are mutually exclusive) manages to not have to sacrifice a decent plot and/or moments of humor for more amazing effects.

I loved this movie. I've seen online that there is already a sequel in the writing stage, and I hope that is true.

How would you make a sequel to that? It ended well enough to not need a sequel.

Unless it's just gonna be World War Jaeger...Now that'd be sweet. All of the world turning Jaegars into war machines to fight their wars for them.

Now that would be a remake of Robot Jox and I would love to see it.As for Pacific Rim, I just saw it and was thoroughly entertained. Action, story, some actual character development. And Rinko Kikuchi. Holy crap. I've never had a fetish for Asian girls or anything, but damn, she's fine. Especially at the end when she's standing up in the pod in the Jaeger suit. Sex-aaaaay. Anyway, so far this is the most fun movie I have seen this year after Man of Steel.

No, Man of Steel was just a little more fun. Also, there was no boat sword. There was a boat used as a club, but not as a sword. I'm probably gonna see it again on Tuesday, though.

I know, but "Boat Sword" rolls of the tongue better.

What, no love for those chain swords?
"For my Family!"
So epic.

This was probably one of the best films I've EVER seen.
It had a good mix of everything and the pacing was great. I was never bored, always listening, and paying close attention to everything. Besides Man of Steel, its been a while since a movie's grabbed me so quickly and kept me there the whole time.

Cannot recommend this enough, see it in IMAX if you can, you can feel every punch.

It was an awesome movie. I was giggling like a schoolgirl all through the movie.

If you get all the nods GDT puts in there its fantastic.

When they pulled out the chain sword I almost leaped out of my seat.

My only very very minor gripe are the Kaiju designs. For some reason I kept thinking of sharks every time I saw them. Hammerheads, Saw Tooth etc... They just weren't as uniquely identifiable as I would have liked. But they weren't bad by any means. The King Kong nod through one of them was pretty cool.

Ohh, and Ron Pearlman is the man. He just looked like he was having so much fun with the smuggler character, it was awesome. Idris Elba is no slouch in the awesome department either.

All in all definitely a movie to watch again... and again... and again.

Now I need action figures with features, like the chain sword and the plasma cannon. The Neca figures just aren't living up to the movie.

I can't find the NECA action figures in my area, or the Heroclix...
