Emerje wrote:Anyway, great read. Seems strange that they passed on a massive Titan Class repaint for $400 when smaller box sets were quickly approaching that price. Seems like a steal for a BotCon set that big.

From the way they were talking about why they didn't do the Titan class stuff or the Grand Max reissue, while they didn't state it outright, the vibe I got from their tones and reasons was that those offers were suggested to Fun Pub not as BotCon boxed sets but as ordinary Club exclusives, like those that were sold in the Club Store and such, which would have definitely been out of Fun Pub's league, especially considering how people were already wincing (and still do to this day) at having to pay $100-$150 for just the normal Hasbro retail versions, and about $200-$250 for the Takara versions, of Titan class figures.

EDIT: Actually, you know what? I can just go ask Jesse himself about this and see what's what rather than trying to guess what he and Pete meant. I'll see if he might have an answer.

Aaaaaand, here's his response:
The Devastators were mentioned while BotCon brainstorming was taking place. So while not technically specifically mentioned for BotCon, heavily implied.

As for the $400, that's where the toys themselves would have been starting. Before adding on the dinner, admission, etc. that went into bumping the BotCon price past the price of just the figures.
So $400 would have been about the base price of just the figure set before the rest of the convention's offerings would have been added on, making the total Primus Package price go well over $400, whereas the most expensive Primus Package (in 2015) totaled out at $409 for club members.

Hmm. O gotta be honest, I got onboard with RID and aa much as I would have loved to have seen some Neo-G1 build team guys, I dont think I woulda gotten that. Landfill as a combiner is a unique looking design, and part of the alure to Titan Devy is thar he is a wholy unique goliath. Not that I mind Repaints for figures, but Devastator just needs to be Devastator and thats it. Devy as Landfill wouldnt have been good enough for me to be Landfill, and woulda detracted from Titan Devastator, whixh wpulda made it not worth the $400 for me

It is a shame we didnt get Sideswipe, I think that was one we were kinda counting on FunPub for.

I totally woulda gotten a Maccadam. Liege Maximo is bot a design I think of adaptinf to a Transformers Toy well. Tje Prime/Idw concept just hasbt been ised enough to pull me away from the original giant spily dude of G2. But it is kinda cool. My only complaint with Solus Prime is rhe hands on the mold not holding that hammer well. But I like that head as Override and I could really use some Primes to go against my collection of Minions of Unicron

Speaking of, I really wanted those Autotroopers and X Brawn.

I had actually looked at the Rook mold and womdered if we coulda gotten an Ironfist out of it. Guess I was right.

I wonder what would have been preferable: a badly executed retool, or a wonderfully done redeco. :-?

You forget, the Gen. Arcee mold has two styles of hands: the slot kind from the original release, and the 5mm-compatible one from the Combiner Hunters set. It does raise the question which would have been used.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

In this case, they likely would have tried for the 5mm Combiner Hunters hands.

Bring him along. The more then merrier. ;)

In all seriousness, me and my own dad have been treating BotCon (and now RoboCon) weekend trips as father-son vacations since 2010. While I'm at the con he goes sightseeing, meets up with old friends, or goes to local ballgames. Then we do stuff together when I'm not at the con. Last year, for instance, we spent the day before RoboCon together at a local museum.

See, I would love to, but there is an annual thing we go and spend all day Saturday at, unless there actually is more to see on Friday and then the custom class is Friday night, and then Saturday is the 2nd wrap up day?

The way RoboCon has been the past two years is that the first night is merely a prelude for the second day, which is the main event of the con. 2017 was a Friday-Saturday con while last year was a Saturday-Sunday con. This year's going back to being Friday-Saturday, but will likely follow in suit with the second day being the big day.

Though, last year was the first year of the custom class, and IIRC there were two classes on the first day, which ran during the day. By the classes' end, the proper evening events began, which were pre-registration package pick-up, the meet-and-greet dinner, and a private preview of the exhibitor room. The second day's events ran all day from morning to evening.

2017 was the same with two differences for the first day. 1) The lack of custom classes meant that pre-registration package pick-up was the first event, with nothing happening during the day. And 2) after the meet-and-greet dinner was the private screening of TLK at the local AMC theater, which was then followed by the exhibitor room private preview.

Still, I'd like to know what exactly happened. Not saying it's all phony, but it could very well have been a scam pulled by someone posing as the real deal.

From what I know first hand, having attended both RoboCons thus far, at no point were any of the custom toys from either convention (2017's raffle prize and 2018's custom class toys) ever claimed to be officially sanctioned by Hasbro.

Pete and Jesse even described at length how the process of actually getting the official license from Hasbro for any future RoboCon exclusives would be something that would take much time to happen, if they were ever even to attempt such a feat since it sounded like there was little interest in their trying to get Hasbro's license. Regardless, they fully and openly acknowledged that RoboCon and all its offerings are unofficial and done solely for the fun incentive of the event, completely unaffiliated with Hasbro in any official capacity.

Nor does TFWiki acknowledge any of the RoboCon customs as official Hasbro product. The 2017 customs are only listed on the BotCon article as concepts that were never officially realized.

Debatable, they've been wrong many times of course but they've also been right about a lot of things. I'm not saying they are right here, but given what the TFWiki cabal are like, it really, really wouldn't surprise me.

Still, I'd like to know what exactly happened. Not saying it's all phony, but it could very well have been a scam pulled by someone posing as the real deal.

That is also possible. The problem is, if it IS real, then the perps (being as they are in total control of the wiki and a sizeable online community) can just scrub the evidence and claim it never happened.

Again, not saying this is absolutely real, but unfortunately I've become so jaded with that particular portion of the fandom that it wouldn't surprise me if they had done all that plus thrown a few puppies down a well for good measure. :(

Sabrblade wrote:From what I know first hand, having attended both RoboCons thus far, at no point were any of the custom toys from either convention (2017's raffle prize and 2018's custom class toys) ever claimed to be officially sanctioned by Hasbro.

In a nutshell, anyone saying that those custom toys are official Hasbro toys has his pants on fire  In that aspect, RoboCon is like DairyCon, only a lot less silly and more lactose intolerant. ;)

Black Hat wrote:That is also possible.

I never suggested TFWiki was responsible (they cant truly erase everything except from a database backup as every article has a change log), but anyone posing as either them or Pete could be a culprit. Again, I'd like some finer details of how this story came to be before we can properly start pointing fingers.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

Hello all!

The full schedule for the show is online if you haven’t yet seen: https://nightshininginc.com/schedule

The meet and greet is at 5:30 at Taste of Belgium on the Banks. We are going to meet in the hotel lobby at 5 and then walk across the bridge to the restaurant. You can view the menu here: https://authenticwaffle.com/menus.html

If you signed up for the custom class, it begins at 6pm. You don’t have to be there right at 6. We just ask that you are there by 7 so you have enough time to complete your figure. Let’s Make A Deal and Room to Room trading begins at 9pm. You won’t want to miss out on the early deals!!!

Kinda forgot about this thread for a while.

Anyway, a little over three weeks ago, it was announced by Night Shining, Inc. on Facebook that RoboCon 2020 will be on June 5-6, 2020. But this time, the location has changed. After three years at the Cincinnati Marriott at Rivercenter in Covington, Kentucky (just across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio), RoboCon 2020 will be held at none other than the Galt House in Louisville, Kentucky; the very same venue that played host to BotCon 2016 (the final BotCon).

RoboCon 2020 is headed to Louisville, Kentucky!

From the team that helped produce BotCon and the Official Transformers Collectors‘ Club, Night Shining is taking the summer robot convention back to where it all ended in 2016 for a NEW beginning! Join us for RoboCon 2020, June 5-6 at the Galt House in Louisville, Kentucky. RoboCon is a show available to fans of all ages at a price that is affordable for collectors and families of all sizes.

Stay tuned for more information and registration details for RoboCon, including updates about all the awesome vendors, artists and the amazing robot toys and artwork they will have for sale. Like our three previous shows, we are looking to give fans another year at a great venue where they can come together and celebrate all things robots!

Hot off the heels of the announcement of BotCon's returning in 2021 under the new management of BC Productions (an all new company run by such BotCon veterans as Karl Hartman, Andrew Hall, Mike Tinnel, and more, created for the specific purpose of acquiring the rights to BotCon from Fun Publications) comes a few updates regarding this year's RoboCon, which has been carrying BotCon's torch in the meantime.

Namely, in addition to the fact that RoboCon 2020 will be held on June 5-6 at the Galt House in Louisville, KY (the very same hotel that played host to the last official BotCon in 2016), registration has gone live, with two registration packages available this year. The standard registration package for this year is a remarkably affordable $25.00! The second option, meanwhile, is a special "BotCon 2021 Pre-Party Exclusive Pack" that features access to a special Friday night party celebrating the next year's return of BotCon, an exclusive BotCon convention T-shirt featuring a "Neo-Classic" BotCon logo, a special vintage BotCon logo themed lanyard, and best of all, a 144-page Ultimate BotCon Product Guide Volume 1 w/ Exclusive convention cover, limited to 300 pieces. That one is priced at $98.00 (more than previous RoboCons but far less than any Fun Pub BotCons ever were).

Also available for this year's convention is the customization class to create this year's custom figure: Shattered Glass Megatron made from Power of the Primes Blackwing.

For anyone here still planning on attending, a new update has been posted that is kind of important:

https://www.facebook.com/PetesRoboCon/photos/a.411692949174597/1123331428010742

RoboCon 2020 UPDATE!

We are sure you have seen countless emails and updates pertaining to the current state of affairs that the world is in. We won’t rehash all of that for you here, instead we will just get to the question of our plans for 2020. The Galt House in Louisville, Kentucky did provide us the option to either cancel or reschedule RoboCon. After weighing all of the factors, considering where things are now, where our state officials are hoping they will be over the next few months, procedures in place, and speaking with our vendors, we have decided to reschedule the show for the weekend of July 24-25, 2020. So yes, we are still planning on having our show this summer!

The first question some of you will ask is why are you having a show when other shows are canceling? Simply put, our show is not structured like other shows. We have an opportunity at the Galt House to still hold a show that can take into consideration current procedures such as social distancing, limited numbers of attendees in any one place, a focus on keeping areas disinfected, and implementing other measures to make sure things line up with what people expect when they travel to an event.

The next question may be what if I do not feel safe attending a show this summer? If you have already registered for the show, we are offering either a full refund or the option to convert your package to a non-attending package. This will allow you to still receive the convention edition of the BotCon Legacy book, the Convention T-shirt, the badge and lanyard, and a variety of other free items that we are now including in all current and future registrations. Please note. If for whatever reason the July 24-25 dates are canceled, any registration placed on or after May 6th will be automatically converted to a non-attending package.

That brings up a good question as well. Why July 24 and 25th and not this fall or next spring? We are aware there is still uncertainty in this. The one thing we do feel confident about though is that if we are going to hold a show at any time between now and next May, this summer would be the best time. We feel that holding the show any later in the year would not have been feasible from a safety standpoint. Our goal is to avoid the times of year where we may not be able to hold any events outside, where the weather is colder, anytime that is anywhere near flu season. As the goal has been to slow the spread of this virus, we want to make sure the show is at a time when that is the most likely to be effective.

Finally, our state of Kentucky, our governor Andy Beshear, has done an outstanding job tackling this issue from the very beginning. We were one of the first states to impose travel restrictions and a shelter in place order. We are in the process of re-opening small businesses, restaurants, and the rest of our great state. If by July you feel comfortable going to the grocery store, going to the shopping mall, going out to a restaurant for dinner, then we will do everything we can to make sure you feel comfortable attending Robocon 2020!

We are happy to take any questions, comments, and/or concerns. We just ask that everyone be respectful and remember that we are all in this together.

Please visit https://nightshiningllc.com to see the current Robocon 2020 registration packages. Visit PetesRoboCon.com for continuing updates on the show. We look forward to seeing everyone for a safe and fun RoboCon 2020 this July 24-25 at the Galt House in Louisville, Kentucky.
