Redundant statement is redundant.

There aren't any non-land based dinos.

Unless, of course, you're a non-traditional taxonomist, in which case Dinosaurs aren't extinct to begin with. ;)

Yeah, Im definitely not an expert in the field. From now on, I'll just refer to Paddles as an animal ;) . I was just curious as to if anyone thought Planet X may try to make Paddles alt mode more land friendly. To me, that would make sense bc the dinobots utilize their beast modes very well. I understand that Paddles could attempt a makeshift crawl on land but I don't think that would be very efficient. A hover mode would be something cool to integrate into the alt mode I think. Either way, I'm sure what Planet X decides will be fun. So far, I've really enjoyed Swoop, Snarl, & Sludge.

I actually only knew the Pterosaurs and aquatic saurians/saurids aren't dinos thing because of Walking with Dinosaurs(the series narrated by Kenneth Branaugh), where 3 out of 5 episodes aren't even about Dinosaurs.

PX-04 Summanus (Snarl) came out already. PX-05 Quirinus (Slag/Slug) should be released any day now. Ironhidensh, are you located in Asia and saying you got Quirinus earlier?

Thanks for the clarification. Yeah, it is pretty easy to mix up names/companies when 5 different companies (to date) have released their own version of Dinobots.

And it's not like the Dinobot names, themselves, are confusing. Well, except for the Trex Swoop and that flying carefree character Grimlock.. 8-}

Seriously, I still have trouble with the other names in their various incarnations, and throw in AoE too:

Snarl
Slag
Slug
Sludge
Slog

Thank goodness for TFWiki!!

Then there was that moment at the start of Call of the Primitives where Primacron's assistant incorrectly identifies Sludge as "Sweep". Being born in the UK in '87, this episode was probably my first exposure to the Dinobots and left me confused for years.

So I've been trying to think up a good in-theme name for this character. So far I've come up with:
Sink
Swim
Sunk
or Splash

Any others?

Since the character never officially existed in a capacity that Hasbro could copyright, why not just name him Paddles ?

He clearly stated why...to have an in-theme name.

Because Paddles is not a single syllable word starting with the letter S.

I do like Splash, and it's been bouncing in my head ever since I learned of Paddles's existence. It doesn't hurt to try to think of other ideas though.

I agree, Splash isn't too bad, but I always think of this when I hear it:

[Edit] How about some words that mean something close to paddle?

Scud (to skim across)
Skim
Scull (an item used to propel a boat, like a paddle)
Smack (something you might do with a paddle....okay, maybe my Catholic School upbringing is coming through...)

Why does the name have to be a single syllable word starting with the letter S ?
The other Planet X Dino names are Caelus, Neptune, Summanus, and Quirinus.

:BANG_HEAD:

Not their Planet X name, which some of us don't refer to in our collections. The actual dinobot names, neglecting Grimlock, start with an S & are one syllable. We are trying to give Paddles a name that follows the pattern set forth by his dinobot teammates.

30 years and that never hit me as being a pattern until I read this comment. In my opinion "Grimlock" flat out kills any legitimacy to this being a pattern. Just because he was the leader doesnt make him special. But if we dismiss that, you have 2 nouns that are pretty much terms for toxic waste and two verbs in which one is a noise and the other is an action. Other than the "S" there is no real pattern. Sorry to be such a downer but I would say just leave him Paddles. He is special like Grimlock.
