A light Gold Chrome and Black Legs, change the window colour to a different shade or even green - include the alternative heads from the repaint and maybe give it a highly decorated trailer side and I may have (insert your favoured rude joke pun about male chickens here) but as it stands I have the original heck I have 2 of them and the only reason I have two of them as the 2nd one came with a mixed lot and despite trying for a year I couldn't even sell it at give away prices.

However if this shows up on heavy Clearance like some of the platinum sets I might buy it as a curiosity piece.

I think it might have been more fun if it was a miniature version of Year of the Horse though.

"Yet another" ? This series has only had one other standard G1 colored Prime at this point. Year of the Snake Energon Optimus Prime

And that figure was still colored differently from the original figure, more similar to what they did with the Year of the Monkey figure. Year of the Rooster Optimus Prime is the closest they've come to a straight release that's about 98% the same as the original. The chrome seems to be of a better quality, that's the only difference I can see.

Yup. :-P

Platinum Edition Year of the Rooster Optimus Prime Listed on Walmart.ca with new Images

So far, every Platinum Edition Transformer toy part of the Chinese New Year line was a Toysrus Exclusive in Canada. However, 2017 will be different with Year of the Rooster Optimus Prime being the first figure in this Chinese New Year line to be a Walmart exclusive instead. We know this since there is now a detailed listing on Walmart.ca. The price is not written yet and it is currently not available for ordering, but there is a dense toy description copied below along with official images for all of you to enjoy. What is odd is that it describes a special edition deco and yet it does not seem to be any different from the previous release. We do not know which retailer will be getting this figure in the US at this time, let us know if ever you come across that information.

Description & Features

Transformers Generations Platinum Edition sets feature figures with a high level of detail, plus premium features and packaging. This Platinum Edition Chinese New Year figure celebrates the Year of the Rooster by showcasing the Autobot Leader, Optimus Prime, with special edition deco and die-cast parts.

Optimus Prime battles the Decepticons whenever they threaten the cause of freedom.. Since the beginning, Autobot Roller has been his ally. With the scout car by his side and a combat deck housed within his trailer, Optimus Prime is unstoppable.

This Platinum Edition figure features die-cast parts and a converting trailer. It comes with an Autobot Roller vehicle, 6 additional figure hands, converting blaster, Matrix of Leadership, jetpack, and Energon axe accessories, plus a figure stand.

There is a part of me that really wants this for my Legends/Legions collection.
Is that so wrong?

This was one of the best incarnations of OP. With the incredible design and engineering involved, I am VERY surprised that the Cab mode was compromised so. Still, the accessories and range of articulation make this figure INCREDIBLE. It really does scale well with Legion class figures and IronFactory/War in Pocket figs too. Probably gonna get this on General Principle, even tho I already have the THS Convoy that this is a remake of. I wish they would do some THS Decepticons now!

I wouldn't put too much hope on the Hybrid line being resurrected. This is more hasbro saying "well we were going to do it a couple years ago in a two pack and didn't and we still have the mold so let's finally release it for our 'Chinese year of' figure

Amazing as this li'l guy is (his truck mode doesn't look so bad in real life if you get it just right) he's not worth that price. Especially when the box is nowhere near as pretty as the original.

I agree.

Platinum Edition Year of the Rooster Optimus Prime Now Available Online in Canada and Price Revealed

$159.97, that is what this toy is priced at right now on Walmart.ca. Those are canadian dollars, which mark this toy at the $120 price point in USD. For those who do not know, this is a 4 inch toy, comparable to the legends class in height but comparable to MP01 in terms of complexity. This is the first ever Hasbro release of this toy (as well as its first release in North America, of course) and it is currently available for purchasing off the site as well. For those unaware, the original Japanese release was available for 4,200 yen, around the $40 price point, back in 2006.

In other Platinum news, the Platinum Edition Autobot Heroes set is available again on Walmart.ca, at $200.

Yeah, no.

Maybe if it hits the bargain bin for $50, like all Platinum releases eventually do.

Year of the Rooster Optimus Prime Added to Hasbro US Catalog

We've been informed by fellow Seibertronian AzT that Platinum Edition's Year of the Rooster Optimus Prime - the first Hasbro release of Takara's Hybrid Style G1 Convoy mold first released more than a decade ago, if you weren't already aware - has finally been added to Hasbro's US online catalog, at a reduced price to boot! Previously thought to be around $120, here it is listed as $99.99.

Does this price drop make this figure more appealing to you, or is it still a bit of a stretch? Let us know in the Energon Pub!

I got MP Optimus Prime for $99 when he came out. Why would I spend $99 for a far inferior, far small figure?

Sad thing is, I bet due to the price a lot of people are gonna think it's some huge, awesome figure at least the size of a Leader or some such and that'll entice them to get it... and then when it arrives at their door they're sorely disappointed.

Honestly I'd just get the Thrilling 30 Legends Optimus if I wanted him in that scale.

This thing is absolutely atrocious. I love collecting Optimus Primes, and although if you have MP-10 (which I do), then you really don't need any other, especially some inferior, grotesque creation. I'm really disappointed too, because I was born in the year of the Rooster, so I was really hoping for something special, maybe a beast wars rooster? This is so lackluster, and it's a DECADE+ old toy that Takara is just now giving to Hasbro? Give me a break. NOPE. Do not buy.

It's available for a while on Walmart.ca

But holy crap, that price is RIDICULOUS. I'll wait for clearance and even then, I'm not sure if I'll ever buy. I already have over 9000 Optimuses afterall.
