Polyhex - The Hexagon: Shockwave's Tower

Homeworld of the Transformers. Drained and ravaged by thousands of vorns of civil war, Cybertron is a mere barren husk of once beautiful and thriving cybernetic world. While recovered enough to allow Transformers to move on its surface once again, it is still plagued by ion storms and any Transformer unfortunate enough to venture there without energon supply of their own is certain to face a stasis lock.

>>"Understood, Brawl. You've held up better than I hoped under the strain of not being on the front lines. I don't expect we'll be waiting a whole lot longer."<<

With the Obliteration on its way to get charged up and his various team members having reported in, Onslaught turned to leave the Silo and head back toward the Tower's nerve center. He was surprised to hear that Brawl had found his way on to the Obliteration, but he hadn't made any moves to direct the Combaticon to remain behind. It was arguably a little bit of overkill sending three perfectly capable Combaticons just to refuel a ship, but he supposed the extra security that Brawl would provide wouldn't hurt. Besides, he was more likely to find something to shoot at and release his frustrations out there than he was here. Addressing Swindle was the next priority.

>>"Good. And no, you can stop. Your progress on that front should be more than sufficient for our needs. The others are headed to refuel the Obliteration. That gives you at least a few breems worth of downtime. I'm heading back to the nerve center. Meet me there or do what you will until the others return."<<

With Swindle's update, Onslaught figured that they had covered most all of the infrastructure work that they realistically could with the limited resources that were currently available to them. If somebody wound up injured, they would have a legitimate means of getting them back on their feet. But now that they had gone to all the trouble of getting the things back online, Onslaught was tempted to rip them out of the walls and stow them on board the Thanatos as well. Especially if Megatron's plans called for them to get back to the front lines of this war. Onslaught was not one to waste resources.

Perhaps they would have more information from the Iacon front soon. Given what Thunderwing had told them, Onslaught knew that he was going to have to start putting more meat on the bones of his contingency plans.

The Thanatos

>>"Yeah...,"<< Rampage began, trailing off in response to Razorclaw's orders as he got up from the vid monitor. >>"Yeah. One sec."<<

He walked over to the other screens as they began to tick off the statuses of the various on-board systems of the Predacons' ship. Unsurprisingly, nothing was coming back that was worthy of attention. Razorclaw ran a smooth ship, and he had kept the one under his command in prime condition.

>>"Everything checks out, 'Claw. Energy stores are running a little low, but we'll make it to most anywhere we need to go. We'll just have to make fueling up a priority when we get there."<<

Medical Bay

Swindle sat down to consider the response from Onslaught. The other Combaticons had gone on an errand with the ship, meaning he was basically alone with the Predacons. Not exactly his favorite customer base: The animalistic warriors had little time for economics, and without other Decepticons around to create the needed veneer of civilised conduct, probably wouldn't be inclined to deal with Swindle in a fair and balanced manner.

Who else is there? Theres the scientist guy Thunderwing, I think Skullcruncher was around...Not exaclty much better. There was that seeker femme, she seemed to have her head screwed on properly, but I haven't seen her since.

There seemed little for the munitions specialist to do other than rest, and he was in just the place to do it. >>Getting a rest cycle while I have the time, sir.<< Sending the message, he hopped into the most trustworthy of the CR chambers and set it to wake him if anything unusual happened in the base. After I'm recharged, maybe I will head to the command center, its the only place around here where anything interesting is likely to happen.

The Tower--Nerve Center

Onslaught once again reentered the command center of Shockwave's personal abode. As he did, he nodded in greeting to Razorclaw who was standing nearby.

"In a few short breems we should be ready for whatever our superiors may throw at us," Onslaught said calmly, approaching one of the command consoles and accessing the information that had been allowed to him.

Amongst the other clutter, he noticed that there was new signal data being transmitted from Iacon. This time it was more than a simple registry of Shockwave's whereabouts. There were several signals that were transmitting very clearly from within Iacon. Most of them appeared to be descending below the surface levels, save for one, that was remaining aboveground for some unknown reason. Onslaught scrolled through the information they were now getting--terrain composition, atmospheric readings, energy readings-which were nil currently, and a few other otherwise boring statistics. In typical battlefield circumstances, Onslaught might have found some marginal degree of usefulness for such information, but it really wasn't his thing. This had Shockwave's distinctive prints all over it.

"Well, that's going to be...," Onslaught began, before trailing off. He noticed that there was a Priority 1 message coming in from the High Command for Shockwave. It had been routed to several points, so it was clearly urgent. Onslaught couldn't help but tense up a little. The Tower would obviously send the clearest signal, provided that it had not already transmitted the highly-encrypted message to its owner already. Onslaught figured that Shockwave had surely already thought of such things. The Tower was clearly the most secure signal relay point on Cybertron, not just from a mechpower and resource standpoint, but also due to Shockwave's extreme proficiency in the realm of the technological.

"I think we're going to be getting some better answers, soon. He may be able to get that message in Iacon, but depending on where that message originated from, he likely won't be able to send one back from there."

The Tower – Nerve Center

>>”Excellent, Rampage. Just keep an optic on things until I’m done here. Razorclaw out.”<<

The Predacon Commander responded to his subordinate’s report regarding the diagnostic results on the Thanatos. It was good news indeed that the ship was in tip top condition. The fuel reserves were somewhat low but manageable. The Predacon battle cruiser was certainly in a better position energon-wise than the Obliteration at the current time. Hopefully, that would soon change, as well.

Razorclaw then noticed a high priority message coming in for Shockwave’s sole optic only. It was tempting to try and break the encryption and see for himself what the news was, but the Predacon leader decided against taking such a drastic course of action. The cycloptic mech would likely detect any tampering with the communication, whether it was successful or not, and thus know that someone had tried to read it prior to his own examination of its contents.

Besides, there was little time to attempt such a complex hacking as Onslaught reentered the Nerve Center, nodding to Razorclaw before approaching one of the command consoles to access some information. “I agree, Commander. We should be in an excellent position to proceed accordingly no matter what happens,” Razorclaw replied as he followed directly behind the Combaticon leader, peering over his shoulder as the data transmitted from Iacon filled the view screen. The multitude of signals came in strong from the subterranean levels beneath Cybertron with one notable exception. It was that exception that concerned the Predacon Commander more than the actual readings, themselves. “I’m curious as to why one of those signals is coming from above ground while the rest are below. I’m also curious as to who else may be able to see these results.” Divebomb would mostly certainly have the answers to these questions, but that would have to be ascertained once he returned from his mission.

It was then that Onslaught noticed the Priority 1 message for Shockwave. “I saw that, as well, just before you entered the Nerve Center," Razorclaw stated, having been previously distracted by the signals from Iacon. "Assuming, of course, that Shockwave will fully divulge the contents of the communiqué with us, we should get the answers we need. Otherwise, we may have to find a way to listen to said message ourselves.”

Aboard the Thanatos

The response from Razorclaw was nice and open-ended, just the way Rampage liked it. He could accommodate the simple request while still engaging in his own pursuits.

>>”Not a problem,”<< Rampage said, clicking the gladiator vid he had on the screen earlier back in to full view. The ship looked like it was running, or would run, at optimum condition once they decided to fire it up again. No reason he couldn’t take in a little more mindless entertainment in-between now and then.
___

The Tower--Nerve Center

Onslaught brought up an operational datafile on the type of servitor drone that was sending the signals back from Iacon.

“Just one of the many goodies Shockwave has built to carry out his more menial tasks around this place. It looks more like a small, generic Insecticon to me. For whatever reason, the one that is remaining above ground is still transmitting. That would suggest that it hasn’t been damaged, but is being incapacitated for some other purpose.”

Onslaught considered attempting some form of hack on the message that was meant for Shockwave. He was a Decepticon, after all. It was natural to want access to as much information as possible and engaging in a little deception in order to get it was hardly unheard of within their ranks. Only the fact that it was a Priority 1, as well as its intended recipient, swayed him from attempting to do so. The encryption levels on those types of messages were ridiculously high. Moreover, Onslaught still felt that he and Razorclaw were on solid, but still treacherous, ground in terms of needing to know what was going on in Iacon. If they suddenly breached the private communiqué of a superior officer and it was traced back to him, they would be breaching several command protocols and lose the sure footing they currently stood upon.

No, if they were going to dabble in a little bit of Decepticon politics, Onslaught intended to do so as carefully as possible. He would save the reckless risks for the likes of Starscream. Unfortunately, that course of action would leave them in the dark until either Shockwave deigned to enlighten them or Divebomb returned with something substantive.

And so the waiting game continued. For now.

Thunderwing turned from the table where he was working holding the completed fuel pump. “I’ve adjusted this pump so that it will connect properly with your internal systems. Once I have it installed it will function just as well as your old one.” He walked over to stand in front of the main computer terminal, looking over the results of the scans.

“It appears that you are suitable for the carapace process. It will take the last of the materials I have on hand but one can be constructed for you.” He began punching commands into the terminal, adjusting and modifying the carapace the computer has designed. “Fortunately it appears that I will be able to build a high quality carapace for you. Your current frame is capable of being fitted with one and your circuitry can handle the additional connections.”

He turned back to the table where Blackwind lay and smiled. “Hopefully the carapace will be aesthetically pleasing to you.” He walked over to stand next to her. “You will have to be taken offline for the surgery. Once that is complete I will load you into the CR chamber for some final repairs and the carapace process. It will take longer then a standard repair cycle but you will be offline and not even notice.” He reached over to unplug the hoses feeding power into her. “I will see you again shortly.”

He carefully disconnected the hose and watched her fade into stasis lock. The Decepticon quickly went to work, removing the damaged fuel pump and carefully installing the new one. Thunderwing briefly tested it, the results showing fuel flowing fully through her systems except in a couple of places where the lines had been damaged. The chamber would be adequate to repair that damage. Carefully he carried her to the chamber and set her inside, sealing her in. He activated it and moved to observe the process on his computer, making last minute adjustments as necessary.

Over Polyhex – Approaching the Tower

Divebomb cut his thrusters as he crossed the border into Polyhex. He sent out his personal identification signal to alert the various autocannons around the perimeter that he was not an enemy mech. The flying Predacon glided the rest of the way as he approached Shockwave’s tower. Descending from the skies, he passed over the launching silos and noticed that only the Thanatos was still docked. The Obliteration was gone. Perhaps the Combaticons were sent on a mission, Divebomb thought as he neared the base of the tower where he transformed back to robot mode and landed in front of the main entrance.

Looking up towards the top of the tall structure, the aerial warrior wondered what kind of reaction Razorclaw would have to the data he was about to deliver. Divebomb hoped he had enough that would satisfy the Predacon Commander and thus redeem himself for his prior failure. If not, he would likely be kicked out of the unit or worse, dismantled and used for spare parts.

Wasting no further time, Divebomb entered into the tower and made his way to a turbo lift that took him swiftly to the upper levels.

The Tower – Nerve Center

Razorclaw nodded at Onslaught’s comments regarding Shockwave’s Insecticon-like devices. The Predacon Commander had a theory as to the reason one remained above ground and incapacitated, but he didn’t want to draw any more conclusions until he had hard data to back it up. Once Divebomb returned, he would hopefully have what was needed. Until then, Razorclaw would simply have to continue waiting as he had been doing for the past few cycles now.

Fortunately, that wait was now over as the doors to the Nerve Center slid open and Divebomb entered the room. The Aerial Predacon approached the two commanders and gave a respectful salute to both. Razorclaw turned and allowed his subordinate to stand before him. “Have you completed your mission, Divebomb?” The Predacon leader was nothing is not direct and to the point.

The flyer took a deep gulp before responding. “Yes, Commander Razorclaw. I flew in high over Iacon and was not detected by either the Autobots or by Shockwave. I was able to see everything as well as record as much as possible.” Divebomb detached the recorder from his waist area and handed it over to Razorclaw. “Unfortunately, Cybertron’s atmosphere caused some interference, but not much. Everything that you would find important should be here, sir.”

“I will decide what is important, Divebomb,” Razorclaw replied gruffly. “Report on what you saw with those enhanced optics of yours. I trust the atmosphere didn’t interfere with those?”

Divebomb shook his cranial unit before responding. “No, sir. I was able to see everything unobstructed. Shockwave met with a small team of Autobots that included Hot Rod, Grimlock, the scientist Wheeljack and even the traitor Howlstrike. Together they accompanied him to a large chasm where he deployed numerous sensor probes into the bowels of Cybertron. He did give one to Wheeljack for analysis and agreed to share the readings with him as well.”

Razorclaw already didn't like what he was hearing and the mere mention of Howlstrike didn't help his mood any. "Continue."

Divebomb nodded before proceeding further with his report. “Prior to that, Shockwave also agreed to share his knowledge of the Ore-13 in exchange for safe passage out of enemy territory. He’s apparently willing to do what it takes to restore Cybertron, even if that means working with the Autobots in order to do so. I was running low on fuel, so I had to leave prematurely. But it was apparent that Shockwave was almost finished with his work and getting ready to leave Iacon, so I doubt I missed anything else. Further details are on the recordings, sir.”

As Divebomb finished his report, Razorclaw remained focused on his subordinate, showing no outward signs of a reaction. “You’ve done well, Divebomb. You have redeemed yourself in my optics. Now, go get a recharge and then join the other Predacons onboard the Thanatos. We may be departing sooner than expected.”

“Yes, sir!” Divebomb said as he saluted one final time before he turned and started towards the door. As he was about to exit the room, the flyer paused for a moment and then turned back around. “Commanders, one last thing, Shockwave did mention that he expected there to be possible interference from you in reaction to his dealings in Iacon. He didn’t appear to be overly concerned, though, but he is apparently prepared for a confrontation.” The Aerial Predacon bowed his head and then left the Nerve Center, heading for the repair bay where he would get the ordered recharge.

Once his subordinate was gone, Razorclaw peered down at the recorder in his hands. It seemed that what he feared had in fact transpired. While he certainly understood the cycloptic mech’s desire to restore Cybertron, he did not understand the need to share sensitive info with the Autobots. It was especially puzzling when it came to Ore-13, which was a substance the enemy didn’t even know existed until now. Surely, Megatron would not be pleased with this as helping the Autobots in any way that could benefit their position in the war could be seen as treasonous. Of course, there was also the Priority 1 transmission to factor in to the overall equation, as well. But, first thing’s first.

Razorclaw looked over at Onslaught and handed the recording device to him. “If you would do the honors, Commander,” The Predacon leader said stoically, not looking forward to hearing the full details of Shockwave’s business in Iacon, but still needing to hear it from his own vocal processors nonetheless.

Being the relatively patient unit leaders that they were, Onslaught could still feel the twinge of anticipation. So many things could potentially be glitch in the works of what Divebomb had been sent off to to. It was only when he returned that the Combaticon registered any measure of relief.

And no worse for wear, Onslaught thought. Impressive.

As Onslaught listened to Divebomb's initial impressions of what had transpired, Onslaught couldn't deny a significant amount of surprise. The Decepticon strategist had show little recognition of the Autobots in the past as anything other than an obstacle to be removed. Was that still the case, or was there something deeper at work here? He found it curious that Divebomb had mentioned Shockwave seeming to be finished with his work there. Given the timing of that Priority 1 message that had come in, Onslaught wasn't so sure he was finished. If he was going to be returning any time soon, it was likely because something had suddenly taken greater precedence in his logic protocols.

"Of course," Onslaught said, taking the recording device and putting it into one of the command terminals--an act in itself that he already felt uneasy doing, given whose tower this was.

As the interactions played back, some parts coming in more clearly than others due to natural factors like distance and the fact that while Divebomb was good at what he had done, he was not exactly Soundwave, Onslaught sat, actuators steepled comfortably underneath his chin structure as he listened to everything. It offered some insight, but Onslaught couldn't shake the sense that he was watching one piece of a complex strategy play out right in front of him, or, he was witnessing the seeds of what would layer sprout in to a full blown betrayal. But of whom?

That vagueness was key, since although Onslaught had heard some curious back and forth in the recordings, he had not heard anything that could be used to decisively incriminate a Decepticon commanding officer. A Stunticon? Certainly. But no one would ever suspect a Stunticon of having a deeper strategy behind any such interaction.

"If nothing else, we are perfectly justified--given our positions--in expecting to be brought in more deeply in to whatever he's doing. At worst, if he continues to hold out, we can assume that our best interests are currently not a part of his strategy....at which point, we would be justified in taking more decisive action. I've known you too long to suspect you're not considering something even now."

Razorclaw sat down in one of the chairs as Onslaught connected the recording device into a nearby terminal. It was quite possible that Shockwave would be aware of the terminal’s usage as this was, after all, his tower and it was as much a part of him as his own physical appendages. Not that it really mattered at this point. The Predacon Commander wanted to hear for himself everything that transpired in Iacon and if that inadvertently alerted the cycloptic mech in the process then so be it. At least he wouldn’t have to pretend he didn’t know the full extent of what had happened in enemy territory when confronting his commanding officer.

As the recording played, Razorclaw sat calmly and listened to everything said between Shockwave and the small Autobot team that had accompanied him. For the most part he seemed to converse with Hot Rod as the flame-covered mech appeared to be in charge of this particular group of ‘Bots. In many instances, the cavalier almost sounded like a real leader instead of the young punk that he was previously known to be. It was intriguing to say the least, but not something that the Predacon leader would concern himself with at this point in time.

The sound of Howlstrike’s voice made Razorclaw lean forward in his chair a bit more. He hadn’t heard anything from the traitor’s vocal processor in over a vorn. The former Predacon wasn’t at a loss for words and did not appear to be afraid to ask Shockwave some tough questions as he clearly didn’t trust the Decepticon. It was very interesting that his former subordinate asked about how much Razorclaw knew of the purple mech’s dealings in Iacon and what his reaction would be. Clearly the line of questioning was an attempt to create concern and doubt within the logical mech. It didn’t work, of course, as Shockwave had an answer for everything the defector asked. It was still remarkable, however, given the fact that the military operations commander could have simply eliminated the former Predacon at any moment for his insolence. Perhaps Howl felt safe amongst his Autobot comrades, or perhaps he just didn’t care. Either way, the effect on Shockwave was zero as he continued with his mission with no further questions from the traitorous mech.

Shockwave’s willingness to work with the scientist Wheeljack was of concern, not so much because he was prepared to share the readings from deep within Cybertron, but because of his desire to also share details regarding the Ore-13. The cycloptic mech claimed he had no intention of divulging anything that would compromise the Decepticons’ operations here on their homeworld. Regardless, it was worrisome to the Predacon Commander as the Autobots would likely use whatever they received to possibly try and duplicate the powerful ore. If they were then successful in stabilizing the potent energy source, it could spell trouble for the empire as a whole.

Still, it was very apparent that Shockwave had a greater plan in mind. He was no mere grunt trying to work with the Autobots and therefore his actions were not automatically treasonous. The purple mech’s intentions seemed focused on restoring Cybertron no matter what, which was the whole reason Megatron sent them here to begin with. If this was the only way to accomplish the overall mission, then perhaps it was a necessary evil that needed to be endured for the time being, but still approached with a great degree of caution.

Once the recording was finished, Razorclaw turned to look at Onslaught as the Combaticon Commander spoke his opinion of what had just been heard. “Yes, I agree that Shockwave needs to include us in his dealings to ensure that things don’t get out of hand with the Autobots. He seems to genuinely want to do what is best for Cybertron. Whether Megatron would agree with the way he is going about doing so is another story. Ultimately, we are here to ensure that Megatron’s wishes are upheld, not Shockwave’s. Once the Military Operations Commander returns, we will approach him for a full debriefing on his activities and future plans regarding the Autobots. If he refuses to share his strategy with us, then I agree that definitive action will need to be taken. As for what I’m considering exactly, I’m open to all options at our disposal, but I would want Megatron’s approval before moving forward. However, the Priority 1 transmission could change everything for not only us but for Shockwave, as well, depending on the significance of the communication’s contents and who sent it. For all we know Megatron, himself, might be the originator of the message. For now, though, we’ll just have to wait until Shockwave returns and hope that he will be forthcoming with us once he arrives."

Razorclaw indicated that he was willing to do what was necessary. Onslaught nodded. He did not like being put in that position but he, too, would do what was necessary if they were not given a better alternative. How could they be expected to go forward, in light of what they knew, if Shockwave continued to keep them in the dark about what he was doing on Cybertron?

The truth was, they couldn’t. If he decided to stonewall them, Onslaught was reluctantly beginning to accept the fact that they might well have to take a superior officer in to custody until he could be brought before Megatron. It was not a step that could be taken lightly, but it was not unheard of within the Decepticon ranks. Onslaught simply hoped that it would not be necessary. After all, he sincerely doubted that Shockwave’s cold, nigh-emotionless logic had suddenly sprouted a sympathetic nerve for the Autobot cause.

And so, as Razorclaw had said, they would have to play the waiting game.

Again.

“Agreed. The timing of that transmission is of considerable significance. Since it was a Priority-1, there is a strong likelihood that it was from Megatron himself. Given that our great leader doesn’t send transmissions idly, we should be prepared to move quickly. If nothing else, I would consider recalling the Predacons back here. We have no real idea of what the next few orns may have in store for us.”

If they did ultimately need to take Shockwave in to custody, Onslaught wanted the combined strength of the Predacons at their disposal to do it. If not, then it would be beneficial to have them all present to hear the details of what was really going on. Regardless, it would be ideal if the remainder of his Combaticons would return with a fully-charged Obliteration sooner rather than later as well.

She felt nothing. She saw nothing. She heard nothing. All at once she was consumed and entered one of the few areas of her processor she rarely ventured into. Her memories were never happy and reliving them was something she did not want to do.

Within the CR chamber the nearly completed carapace surrounding Blackwind’s body shifted almost violently. In her processor memories from before the war suddenly came flooding back. Competing with other Seekers, namely Starscream, in order to become part of Megatron’s elite Seeker trine. The gloating and mockery from the Seeker Commander once he was put into command also flooded her processor.

Once she had finally secured a position at Megatron’s side things still did not improve. She worked tirelessly to prove that even though she was a mere femme she was just as worthy as any mech in the Decepticon ranks. Her hard work finally paid off, but the rank and file still treated her as nothing more than a useless femme.

Again the carapace, and Blackwind, shifted within the chamber. The time she had spent working up the ranks made it nearly impossible for her to establish any relationships in the upper echelons. Doing so would have made it easier to establish herself as a serious warrior and not just another delicate femme.

The carapace was nearly complete causing the CR chamber to cycle down a couple of power levels. It wouldn’t need to use as much energy to bring Blackwind back online as it had needed for the process. After two breems the CR chamber began to cycle down completely, and at the same time Blackwind’s systems began to reboot.

Razorclaw considered the Combaticon Commander’s suggestion to recall the Predacons in preparation of Shockwave’s return. The members of his unit were presently not far away. Divebomb was likely still within the tower, itself, recharging down in the medical facility while the rest were residing in the Thanatos until further orders were given. Of course, if any action against the cycloptic mech was necessary then it would be imperative that the Predacons were in closer proximity than their current positions. Being out in the launching silo or sitting in some recharge station would do the two commanders up in the Nerve Center no good whatsoever.

“I agree,” Razorclaw responded to Onslaught. “I will call in my team at once. I would also suggest alerting the Combaticons to return as quickly as possible. We could use all the support we can muster for what we may have to do.”

Razorclaw then opened a comm line to his elite squad: >>”Predacons, drop what you are doing. Your presence is required in the tower’s Nerve Center immediately. No need to respond to this transmission. Your prompt arrival will suffice. Razorclaw out.”<<

It took less than a breem for Divebomb to walk back through the doors of the Nerve Center and once again stand at attention before the two commanders. “At ease, Divebomb,” Razorclaw said plainly. “Am I to assume you are fully recharged?”

“Yes, commander,” the Predacon flyer responded. “I am ready and at your disposal.”

“Good.”

A short time later, Headstrong and Tantrum came sauntering into the Nerve Center, giving the two unit leaders the appropriate salutes. “How is the Thanatos? Is she ready for departure?” Razorclaw asked.

Headstrong was the first to speak. “Uh, yes sir. Everything is in working order.”

“Excellent. Now, where’s Rampage? He’s not still watching those old holovids is he?” Razorclaw looked from one subordinate to the other. “Well?”

“Errr…he should be along shortly, sir,” Tantrum replied, hoping their comrade would arrive sooner rather than later.

Razorclaw simply sighed as the waiting game continued.

Aboard the Thanatos

Rampage's actuators were gripped against the edge of his console, watching in nostalgic glee as an old, black and red gladiator struggled in a larger, yellow mech's grip. The red and black one eventually broke free and before the yellow one could reassert himself, the former had embedded his powerful axe in the other's midsection before ripping it loose, sending a shower of sparks and fluids all over the filthy arena floor.

Rampage's grip tightened and loosened, alternatively, until the vid had completed its playback. He was about to dig up another one when Razorclaw summoned him and the other Predacons.

The manic Predacon stood abruptly, barely resisting his impulsive urge to take a reckless swipe at the screen for the Predacon Commander's having interrupted his viewing marathon. But resist he did, and instead headed out of the room and the ship altogether. Perhaps Razorclaw had come upon something that they would be able to sink their teeth in to. For real.

The Predacon quickened his pace, eager to find out.

"Something need killing?" Rampage asked as he stepped through the entrance in to the foreboding tower's nerve center.

Skies over Polyhex--Bridge of the Obliteration

The trek from Kolkular to Shockwave's tower within the Hexagon in Polyhex was blissfully short compared to many other tours of duty that Vortex had completed over his many vorns of service to the Decepticon cause. At this distance, he could already see the distinctive tower coming clearly in to view on the screen.

"Didn't think those things walked around on the surface," Vortex said, answering Brawl's earlier question. "Figured we'd pick off a few cyber-rats and be on our way. If those kinds of things are being driven to the surface to hunt, the planet must really be in bad shape. Who knows what else might crop up before the whole planet goes in to complete shutdown all over again?"

Vortex pulled up a few maps of the regional star systems on his nav-computer. Ultimately it wouldn't be up to the likes of them where they went next, but he was going to be prepared for anything.

"What?! Those?!" Brawl bellowed, before bursting into mocking laucher. "You've been living under a cybertonium boulder?!"

"Hah! Before the war I got to take potshots on Cannibalizers about every other orn when damned recycle center tycoons kept bothering the elite guard to do some population control at various junkyards around Cybertron!" The bulky Combaticon shared a tidbit from his past with Vortex.

"Those slaggers used to breed on junkyards, probably even originated from some thrown away prototype that wasn't quite as dead as its inventor thought!"

The Tower--Nerve Center

That we will, Onslaught thought, continuing to keep his optics focused on the screens in front of him.

After what seemed like a ridiculously long wait, Onslaught finally registered the signal of the Obliteration as arriving in the vicinity. They had outpaced Shockwave's signature, which Onslaught had been tracking from Iacon, but not by much. Business, as they say, was about to pick up. The Combaticon Commander set about issuing his team their next set of orders.

>>"Swindle, report to the Nerve Center,"<< Onslaught quickly sent out, before opening up another link with the bridge of the Obliteration. >>"Blast-Off, you and the others report to the Nerve Center as soon as you've landed."<<

With the Obliteration fully fueled and the Thanatos able to get them wherever they needed to go before it needed topped off, Onslaught felt confidant that all the work they had accomplished in Polyhex would serve the Decepticon war machine well in the vorns to come. But he was not content to sit idly by with no knowledge of their ultimate purpose here or the strategy by which they would accomplish some of what Thunderwing had shared with them earlier. Onslaught was confidant that he was not far from getting the answers he and Razorclaw wanted, one way or another.

Medbay

Swindle was out of the CR chamber a few astroseconds after Onslaught called for him. It had been a longer recharge than the munitions expert had expected, almost a full cycle, and he found himself almost eager to see what had passed in the time he'd been out. >>On my way sir.<<

Well, no disasters have happened, the alert wasn't urgent yet. But it could still be a big problem...Well, I'm not going to be any fitter to handle it than right now.

Command Center

The munitioner enters the command centre and salutes Onslaught and Razorclaw. "Reporting for duty. Will you want me handling any of the consoles here, sir?"

Bridge of the Obliteration

As Shockwave’s Tower loomed directly ahead and his two comrades traded comments regarding the cannibalizer they had recently encountered, Blast-Off remained focused on the screen in front of him. When word came from Onslaught, the space warrior was the first to open a comm line back to his unit leader: >>”Roger that, Commander. We’ll be there shortly.”<<

“Well, looks like we’re going to learn what our next move is,” Blast-Off said to Vortex and Brawl as he lowered the landing gear and guided the Obliteration down into the launching silo, parking it not far from the Thanatos. With the docking clamps engaged and the exit ramp extended, the space warrior stood from his seat and looked around at his Combaticon brethren. “We should get to the Never Center and find out what's going on. We don’t want to keep the boss waiting.”

Blast-Off then left the bridge and made his way through the warship before descending the ramp and walking at a brisk pace towards the tower. Hopefully, he and the others would hear news that they would be leaving this dead husk of a planet sooner rather than later.

The Tower - Nerve Center

Razorclaw continued to wait patiently alongside Onslaught. Judging by Shockwave’s signal, the cycloptic mech was drawing closer to the tower with each passing astrosecond. Soon he would arrive and then the Predacon Commander and his Combaticon equivalent would get the answers they wanted. If they didn’t, well, then things would really get interesting around here. With the Predacons already assembled in the Nerve Center and the Combaticons currently en route, all would be revealed one way or another.

“Nothing to kill just yet, Rampage,” Razorclaw responded to his violent and overeager subordinate. “Patience.”

Swindle then entered the room and inquired about manning one of the stations. Razorclaw deferred any response over to Onslaught as the arms dealer was his responsibility and the Predacon leader did not want to overstep his bounds by giving out instructions to a member of another unit. Instead, Razorclaw remained vigil, awaiting Shockwave’s impending return to his tower.

******

Blast-Off maneuvered through the corridors of the tower with ease before arriving at and entering the Nerve Center. He immediately noticed that all of the Predacons were already present along with Swindle, but Shockwave was no where in sight. Intriguing, the space warrior thought as he walked up alongside the munitions expert before stopping and giving a solid salute to Onslaught. “Blast-Off reporting as ordered, sir. The mission to Kolkular was a success. The Obliteration is completely refueled and ready for departure. Besides the usual cyber-rats and a run-in with one nasty cannibalizer, everything went well. The others will be here momentarily.”

Blast-Off couldn't help but wonder what this impending meeting was going to yield as far as orders or information went. Leaving Cybertron was a definite possibility, but he sensed that there was something else going on here than met the optical sensor. Both commanders appeared to be tense and slightly on edge. It was almost as if they were awaiting the arrival of an enemy combatant or other potential threat. The only 'Cons not yet present were Brawl, Vortex and, of course, Shockwave. Could it be that the purple mech's absence was the source of the tension? Only time would tell.

The Hexagon--Shockwave's Tower

Having crossed in to the deeper areas of Polyhex, Shockwave could now detect the presence of numerous other Decepticon scanners within the sensor grid that had been established within the city-state as they carried out their automated function--scanning his presence, acknowledging his clearance beacon and clearing the Decepticon Commander for deeper entry in to the territory. It was a microcosm of how the planet, and eventually the universe, should be run.

As Shockwave touched down just outside the tower, he began transmitting a new series of signals. The structure itself responded in kind, sending the cycloptic mech basic information regarding personnel within the tower, their locations and the locations of all Decepticon resources--the foremost of which was the Thanatos and its valuable cargo. Said cargo was arguably all the more valuable now.

All was secure.

Satisfactory.

>>"Shockwave to Thunderwing--imperative--assemble all extraneous Decepticon soldiers within the Nerve Center."<<

Though the majority of the Decepticons appeared to be gathered within the Nerve Center already, that did not account for the entirety of their forces. Metallic contours of the tower's flooring shifted with Shockwave's steps, accelerating his pace by 10.4753% before he ultimately arrived at the lift which would carry him to the Nerve Center, located within the tower's zenith.

The Tower--Nerve Center

Onslaught acknowledged each of the arriving Combaticons with a nod. Swindle had arrived first, followed a short time late by Blast-Off, who in turn was followed by Vortex and Brawl.

"Proceed," Onslaught said, motioning for Swindle to take over his own station. "Let's make sure that sensor network you and the others established is up to snuff, hm?"

He then turned his attention to Blast-Off.

"Well done. One less thing we'll have to fight over like a bunch of empties."

The illumination levels within the Nerve Center flickered momentarily and the screens appeared to glitch. Onslaught looked over and saw that Shockwave's signal was rising steadily. He was ascending through the tower even now. He then looked back to the other Combaticons.

"This is standard operating procedure, but I can not stress this enough: if I give an order that you question at any point in the immediate future or the orns to come, you will follow it without the slightest hesitation. Understood? There will be a time for answers, but it will likely not be when you want them most."

The Tower - Nerve Center

Swindle sits at the indicated station and loads up the sensor control program. Nothing major on the sensors, only a list of minor contacts caused by surviving wildlife and windblown debris. Swindle checks them all anyway to be sure, even as the lights flickered. "The network is working perfectly, sir. I can see that Commander Shockwave has returned and the IFF works perfectly."

Swindle frowns as Onslaught begins talking about obedience and following orders. He should know we'd never countermand his orders. Even Brawl is a reliable trooper under his exterior. What could be going on that we need this pep talk? "Understood sir. We await your every command." Swindle returned to his work with trepidation. Things were indeed getting interesting, but something told him they wouldn't be fun...

Thunderwing’s Laboratory

After the CR chamber had finally ended the repair and rebuild process the contents within began to slowly drain and simultaneously two points of deep ruby lights pierced the small glass window. With a low hiss the chamber door slid open and a billow of mist escaped the opening. On the side of the chamber a set of razor sharp digits gripped the edge and pushed the form within up.

The figure of the carapace soon emerged and took a tentative step forward. Blackwind held her hands out in front of her optics and flexed her clawed hands. She extended her arms and noted the silver and red paint that adorned them. Satisfied with the paint job she stepped toward Thunderwing and gave the scientist a nod. The helmet of the carapace was removable, but the mask was also capable of retracting. With a mental order the mask retracted revealing her true face.

Blackwind flashed a smile at Thunderwing. “So, what do you think?”

Thunderwing’s Laboratory

Thunderwing carefully monitored the process as Blackwind was sealed in the CR chamber. With the complexity of her carapace and her rather delicate nature he wanted to make sure he assisted the process along and made sure it processed correctly. The fact that this was the first time he had actually conducted the process on another being only added to his interest. He had, of course, monitored his own processes, either via direct connection in the chamber or via recorded readings later. Neither was the same as monitoring the process directly as it occurred though.

The scans indicated that the process was going quite well. He did notice some movement in the chamber as she shifted around. It wasn’t much of a surprise as the process could be uncomfortable, particularly the first time it was done. He did not with approval that she settled down as the process came to completion. The Decepticon scientist programmed the computer to take intensive scan of her as the chamber opened, allowing him to be free to talk with her without distraction.

As she stepped out Thunderwing gave her a visual appraisal. He had theorized that the carapace partially took form by the design and mindset of the one wearing it. He noted that unlike his hers was sleeker then his own, which was fitting considering her regular sleek and stealthy design. The clawed hands were an interesting touch. He smiled back at her as she spoke. “You look magnificent. How do you feel? I know it can be disorienting at first with the new size and proportions you possess with the carapace. Can you move freely? We may have to take you outside to fully test your new abilities.”

Thunderwing’s Laboratory

At Thunderwing’s initial complement Blackwind’s smile grew wider as she then looked down at her new carapace. She was much taller than her regular form, as the scientist pointed out, but she honestly felt no different than before. After taking in as much of her appearance as she could Blackwind then trained her optics on Thunderwing.

“I have to admit, I don’t feel any different than I did before. Taller yes, but I just feel…normal.”

In an answer to his new query Blackwind took a few steps around the lab. She felt no resistance or any unfamiliarity. In fact she felt incredible. She stopped to stand in front of him, now she stood optic to optic with the mech.

“There doesn’t seem to be any problems with my movements.”

Blackwind put her hands up to halt Thunderwing’s thoughts of heading outside of the Tower to test her abilities. It was a very tempting idea, but she really needed to see what Shockwave and the Predacons and Comabaticons were up to. After all Megatron entrusted her to be his optics while on Cybertron, and she did not want to disappoint him.

“I’m afraid the tests will have to wait until later. I have been out of commission for far too long, and I dare not think of the atrocities Shockwave has achieved.”

She turned to leave, but stopped suddenly. The femme Seeker turned back around to face the scientist. Blackwind flashed him a sweet smile as she moved in closer.

“You know, I owe you my life. If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be standing here now. So, thank you, Thunderwing, for saving me.”

Thunderwing’s Laboratory

Thunderwing frowned at Blackwind’s wish to delay further testing. His data on the entire process had been limited purely to himself until this point. While he was a Decepticon he had been a scientist long before that, and that part of him still craved knowledge. He was eager to see how the process took hold on another being. The delay in gaining that knowledge was frustrating, even if he understood it. Loyalty was a rare thing among the Decepticons and should be commended, but it did sometimes hamper things in unexpected ways.

He was resigned to the delay in his studies when she paused for a moment to thank him. It was another unexpected trait to be found among the Decepticons, gratitude. The faction possessed a ‘survival of the fittest’ mentality as one of its core values, so such things as gratitude were often seen as a sign of weakness. It was refreshing and appreciated to receive it on those rare times it was offered.

The Decepticon stepped closer to her, almost bumping up against her. “It was both an honor and a pleasure to do what I could to restore such a fine and upstanding Decepticon. Truly, you are a credit to all other Decepticons in the ranks.” There was a brief moment of silence before a signal from Shockwave broke the spell. Thunderwing stepped back, a curious look on his face. “It seems you will get your opportunity to see Shockwave sooner then you thought.”

>>”All Decepticons report to the Nerve Center immediately, as ordered by Commander Shockwave.”<<

With the orders passed along he nodded at Blackwind and made his way out of the lab
