Question about Jafcon Convoy (Black Optimus Prime) toy

I finally got a Jafcon Convoy. I was very excited about receiving this item after all of this time until I opened it up to inspect it. Indeed, it looks black, but if you shine light on it at some angles you can see that some of the black plastic is a blackish/brown with a gold sparkle/look to it. The trailer has this same effect, except for the black plastic bar on the underside of the trailer. Roller utilizes the plain black plastic as well. I own the actual KO that many sellers try to pass off as the legit thing so I'm able to compare it the version I own to a KO. The stickers, including the chromed sticker that is absent from the KO, is indeed present and looks identical to other legit versions of Optimus Prime that I own. The KO is entirely black plastic, which is what I was expecting with Jafcon. I've just never heard anyone comment on the black plastic having a gold glitter effect to it in certain light, and can't seem to find anyone commenting on it in their reviews, so it concerns me. However, the pic of Jafcon Convoy at http://opmegs.blogspot.com/2011/03/01-o ... leted.html appears to have the same look that mine has.

Does anyone else own this figure? Can you comment on whether or not this is common for this version of Convoy/Optimus Prime? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The paint directly above the windshields is screwed up. Do you think this was a factory defect, someone touched up the paint, or is this a screw up from someone painting the chest. The rest of the paint looks perfect like it should.

On the upper left arm in the above pic, you can see the gold sparkle effect in this black plastic.

The black plastic bar on the underside of the trailer is plain black plastic, as is Roller. However, the rest of the trailer is this gold sparkled black plastic that concerns me.

As you can see, the packaging is the correct packaging for a Jafcon Convoy. The instructions and sticker sheet appear to be correct as well, or at least it's correct for the first reissue of Convoy.

I'm just now finding this topic today. Mine is the legit release. It is also this transparent brown/black plastic with the gold flecks. I can't comment on the paint as mine is still sealed. I currently plan to keep it that way. I guess my question would be, "Did you buy a sealed figure?". If not, the paint could be any number of things. I do seem to see small paint chips on the die cast. Examining mine, it seems to be free of those. From what I can tell yours is legit as well. I can't see the trademark stampings to be any real help though.

Thanks for the reply my friend. I learned a lot of things about Jafcon Convoy after getting him almost a year ago. I had no idea that he wasn't actually all black prior to getting that one. I ended up getting a much nicer one and then selling the one in the pictures above to recoup my costs. The new one I ended up with is much more along the lines of what I like in my collection in order to photograph them for Seibertron.com. Can't wait to do this gallery one day!

No problem at all. I think the first I learned of it not being actual black was from the podcast. I went and checked mine and of course, he was exactly as described. I never noticed before then. Got mine at Botcon 09 if I remember correctly. I'm glad you were able to get a nice one to make a gallery for. I look forward to seeing him up close without having to crack mine open. He's one of a small handful of pieces I plan to keep MISB.

And the link led here :D .I should have searched Seibertrons database first!

I've read somewhere that this guy was limited to 800 pieces. You guys might be in the know a bit better than myself. Can you confirm this at all?

I'm definitely in the market for one, but if that number is correct, then its going to be a tough hunt.

Sorry, I can't confirm or deny that number. He was a grail of mine for years. A seller had him at Botcon for the price I felt was reasonable for it. So, I guess I got lucky by skipping the hunt for him. Good luck!

I purchased one of these from BBTS when they were first released. I sold mine on ebay about 6 years ago when I was getting married. I wish i still had it, but what can you do? I think I sold mine for somewhere around $250 but I don't recall for sure.
