No POWER windows, steering, brakes, seat.... no power. The lack of Power steering on a car like that is just harsh. You would have to wrestle that thing around the track.

As a mechanic I have to respectfully disagree with that. It's a common misconception. Three factors determine how difficult a vehicle is to steer...

1) The vehicles overall weight and dimensions, versus the size of the steering wheel.
2) Whether the vehicle was supposed to have Power Steering (if the PS is dissabled it can cause problems depending on the make/model of the vehicle and how many pulleys or belts the are being used to power it).

3) And the third and MOST important is the vehicles speed or motion. The faster the vehicle is going the less difficult it is to steer, and that goes with any vehicle, not just Porsche race cars.

I have a 1966 Chevy stepside that doesn't have powersteering (designed before PS was common on cars), and a 1988 GMC Sierra with no power steering (that was designed after PS was common). We use these as work vehicles at our farm and they do fine. The '88 is a pain sometimes when your having to steer at a dead stop (especially in mud or dirt), but as long as its going it steers fine. I suspect that at the speeds involved for that Porsche to scoot around a track, combinded with how stripped down the weight and trim characteristics are on the frame and body, you might be surprised that you could steer it with one finger over 100mph, not that I would want to try that at that speed. The smaller the steering wheel, the more difficult it is to steer at slower and slower speed, so yeah, it might be like wrestling a bear at a dead stop or 10-20mph.

Sorry not trying to come across as a know-it-all, but I just have experience in this area. :D

*Also my Bumblebee project car is a 1972 VW Beetle, and it's the younger brother of the Porsche 911 they were both the brainchild of Ferdinand Porsche' and none of the Air-cooled Beetles of that era had power steering (with either Standard or Super Beetle suspensions) and you'd be surprised how easy it is to steer. I envision "Jazz" above would be just as easy to steer.

OK, NOW I'm being a know it all LOL, sorry.

Track qualified at Myrtle Beach Speedway, oval and road course. No power steering makes a difference.

(and he just had to throw in his pictures to boot LOL)......and I suspect that stock Camaro weighs ALOT more than the trimmed down modified fiberglass 911 pictured above.
And when I say stock, thats not an insult, I'm implying weight, not engine performance modifications (nice ride, when it comes to domestics, I'm all Chevy/GMC). But have you ever driven a Volkswagen Beetle or Karmen Ghia? I have....and also Porshe 911 Turbo's, Targa's, and Boxsters' (both water and air-cooled) at the shop I worked at in college. I assure you, the lack of power steering is not an issue with the Martini 911. I guess the point I'm trying to convey here is the engineers wouldn't have designed it to be a dirt or dry track racer that was hard or difficult to navigate at dangerous speeds. Can we agree on that?

And not to change the subject but I know I mentioned keeping my replicas as show accurate as possible however I WILL NOT be making my Bumblebee interior solid pink as seen in the cartoons. I just can't bring myself to commit to that color (*Yuck). But I am working on a full size rub sign.

Oh, and for anyone else who is interested in this subject or hobby and is so inclined, don't just take my word for it, go research this stuff...get out there and enjoy the hobby.

And don't worry GetRightRobot. Your ego can take comfort in the fact that if our Bumblebee's ever are fortunate enough to meet up, your Bayformer will no doubt run circles around my Geewunner on the qualifying track!!! LMAO

I'm running a 1776cc on a stock tranny and axle set-up. Its a dropped front end with updated disc brake conversion up front, but still has stock style mastercylinder and emergency brake setup with drums still in the rear (insert percussion instrument joke here fella's). So, my top speed even with those few extra cc's is somewhere between 80-90 mph and thats on level ground. My speedo tops out at 100 but the cable is a little off so the dial just bounces over 100mph when I have the pedal to the floor, but I had a cop buddy clock me at an air strip and it was only 87-88 mph. But hey, it may only be a VW but thats fast enought to engage the flux capacitor on a DeLorean. So there....

8) Cool, now you got me daydreaming about a Camaro project. I already want a solid black NEW Camaro. I want to make an updated General Motors Knight Rider car. That airdam on the nose of the highend Camaro's is the perfect place to put a Cylon style red light (as long as it doesn't interfer with the functionality). I got irritated a few years ago when NBC put Knight Rider back on the air as a new Mustang. A FORD??? REALLY??? The original KITT was a general motors product and I know the new Camaro wasn't out yet at the time and also Pontiac was as good as dead at that point, but keep it in the family. Don't get me wrong, I like the new Mustang for what it is, and I'm glad the pony war is back on after a brief hiatus but KITT as a Mustang? I mean Barricade yes, but the Knight Industries Two Thousand....NO. Talk about a WTF moment. Alas, this is a subject for another message board (or two). :P LOL

Ugh, that new Knight Rider was the lamest garbage I had ever seen. It really was an extended commercial for Mustang, with all the close ups of the logo, wtf is that to have in a tv show?

Now to piss some people off.... the show reminded me of the Transformers movie.

Ugh, new Knight Rider... well I can tell you on track days, I'm one of the slowest cars out there. I drive with a vintage car club (I also have the newest car-1979). This thing is so heavy! Without power steering, under power, the steering gets SO incredibly squirrely! It's like liquid. Power steering not only makes it quicker to turn at low speeds, it helps slow it down under acceleration. Control. Now in a straight line, with good tires, I'm running low 12's. N/A small block with tko 3 speed and standard motor work: roller rockers, cam, cam lifter, pulleys, edelbrock matched intake and carb and jt hooker headers. On a track, your G1 Bumble would kick my @$$!
