There is also the footage from Superman of him pushing the boulders to stop the flood from the end of the movie. The footage, before you see Superman was used in a TV show, I think it was the pilot episode of Knight Rider but I can't remember exactly.

I'm always fascinated by people who pick up on this stuff, it's pretty impressive to have the patience to go through all that material and look for identical shots.

And? Every movie has stock footage. At least he uses his own.

It's a nonissue.

You know, this doesn't bother me, except I just thought of something.
Didn't Michael Bay say he shot the whole thing in 3D? Isn't that all part of the process? The Island certainly wasn't filmed in 3D. I suppose that scene is so digitally changed it doesn't matter. Maybe it was all digital to begin with.

Ever seen a Godzilla flick? They're made mostly of previous Godzilla flicks.

Also they sometimes use the lightsaber sounds in the G1 cartoon, for example when Soundwave makes the Energon cubes come out of his chest.

another one the laser blasts is C3P0 getting shot in Cloud City from Empire Strikes Back, they use that a few times in the G1 cartoon. I think Dark Awakening is the most obvious example.

Let's not forget the most used one, the Wilhem scream. How many movies does that appear in? Too many to count these days.

Now, if someone could explain how the Dreads could run faster (or it appeared to me they were) then the 3 autobot (high performance cars) could drive?

- Because they could jump over cars and the autobots had to swerve around them
- because the decepticons don't care about damaging stuff and killing humans

At least he reuses footage from his own movies. Jeez, you guys will find anything to bash this guy! Can't even admit the movie was good.

I actually think it's kinda neat they reused footage. But it does make wonder, could those few seconds have been better spent in this very long movie?

Props to the people who notice things like this. I basically glaze over like an idiot at the movies, especially when it's giant robot action! I'm such a sucker for digital and S.E. destruction!

That's a good point. It'd be worth seeing the movie again to see if there is a discernible difference in the 3D effect.

No, I've only seen The Island once back in 2005 and when I saw DOTM I knew this footage was from the island. Some of us are observant and only need to see a movie once to see footage in other films.

Yup, couldn't agree more. It's called stock footage and film makers use it all the time to save cash. What would you rather have, brand new footage of cars getting crushed or more CGI Transformers on screen?

Why is this such a big deal but using footage of President Kennedy, President Nixon and the moon landing is not getting discussed?

HA! Kennedy looked like a corpse sitting in a chair.

They did it in the 4th episode of Animated too, when Prowl was trying to outsmart the laser sensors that Megatron took control of.

EXACTLY! The only thing that this proves is that someone has entirely too much **** free time on their hands and doesn't know how to actually enjoy a film for entertainments sake like it's intended.
Even in the Entertainment Industry the budget is tight so you have to save a buck where you can. The U.S. Govt should be paying attention to Hollywood and taking notes on how to save a buck AND still produce something decent.

Also in the original animated TF movie, when Soundwave plugs himself into the Decepticon computer (the 'More than you imagine, Optimus Prime' scene), the sound effect used is the TARDIS door opening effect from 'Doctor Who'.

If there is, then I can definitely see a problem with stock footage from non-3D sources.
If there isn't, well... that shows how much this whole shooting in 3D thing is marketing bullshit. Basically, lose/lose situation.

Good thing I don't give a **** about 3D.

Meh, I saw that gif on FaceBook when one of my friends posted it. Never saw The Island, but it didn't look good to begin with. As for the footage being recycled, I'm really not surprised, this is Michael Bay after all, his idea of a plot is building a model of a building and blowing it up with an M-80, but it was interesting to see the scene in the original movie then how it was edited in DotM.

I have the same mindset as EssThree about 3D. Its very much useless, only as a gimmick is it effective. Its also a technology that is older than a majority of the people seeing this movie I believe (unfounded fact, I know, but it is a good guesstimate), so using it nowadays is just like recycling footage, useless to argue over, and not worth the jacked up price to see a movie in 3D.
What is the cost to see a movie in 3d again? Last one I saw was Alice in Wonderland (GREAT movie BTW), and I think it was around $20 per ticket while the average cost of a non-3D ticket is $9.50. A **** movie is still going to be **** if you see it in 3D or not (I'm not saying this movie is **** as I haven't seen it yet, I'm just speaking in general).

I don't much mind the use of recycled footage in DOTM, it wasn't as obtrusive as another movie whose title I can't remember where they reused the outdoor shootout footage from the Cyberdyne building from Terminator 2. It even went all the way to the building's explosion, if I recall correctly! That movie only replaced the interior scenes.

As for the Dreads' running speed, I like to believe that Cybertronian physiology still allows them to be faster than most vehicles, and they were on the attack. I like the fact that only the Autobots had the Stealth Force modes in the movie-- it was an indication of the kind of upgrades they did for themselves due to their work with the humans in NEST.
