Combiner Wars is the odd one of the three, by having the male plugs on the limbs and not sticking out on the torsos. I wonder if that was structurally an improvement or just aesthetics. :-?

You forgot the father of it all, G1 Scramble City. Plus there's the Power Core Combiners.

I'll give you PCC, as I was only counting the "modern" systems.

I don't see how the G1 Scramble City original can't be considered "modern". That's the only other universal system missing from those other old ones. Energon is almost 20 years old, meaning vintage so that one shouldn't be considered "modern" either.

BTW, the WFC system was only used for one combiner so I'm not sure if that one count. That was only the prototype for CW after all.

Going back to the PCC, if they make the classic characters in Core class, why not making Core class combiner sets using the PCC principle? This time, with fully transformable components. :-?

My thoughts for the Stunticons is that they might do Motormaster as the cab, with the trailer forming a skeleton for a Sunbow inspired combined mode where the deluxe Stunticons plug onto the skeleton using CW style pegs and ports.

HOWEVER, that's not the only combined form because the cab/Motormaster himself could turn into a Studio OX/early IDW inspired version with part of the trailer forming the hands and feet, and the Stunticons actually transform into proper limbs for this combined mode using the previously mentioned CW style pegs and ports.

That'd be my ideal update because it covers Sunbow and toy styles, but I doubt they'd do that because it'd be almost impossible to get all of those features in on a Commander budget. If it were a Titan class Menasor with all five members included and not being forced to be Devastator/Predaking height, I could see it working, but as is, I'm expecting to be like the 3P Sunbow inspired versions we've seen. (That said, I think it'd be neat if the individual Stunticons had alternate heads included cause I prefer the toy style heads compared to the Sunbow heads)

Agreed, also probably why I loved it so much, flaws and all. I remember the Energon Combiners came out in 2004. They were not bad by any means, but I got them mostly because I figured we would never get combiners in the spirit of the originals ever again, or even to that wide a range of characters. I am glad I was wrong.

I still hope it gets used on future toys, where applicable.

I love the CW system.
I just hope they would just REINFORCE THE DAMN RATCHETS IN THE COMBINER JOINTS. :BANG_HEAD:

Basically making a distinction between the original G1 and the redesigned successors, hence the quotation marks. It's all semantic really, or I'm just weird 8-}

BTW, the WFC system was only used for one combiner so I'm not sure if that one count. That was only the prototype for CW after all.

Counted the Scramble types only, including WFC Bruticus and Ruination for completion sake.

Spring-loaded mechanisms take a lot of space inside a figure, but if the arms and legs are separate, it could work :-?

And that's basically my point in hoping the don't totally recycle the CW system, because the tolerances seem to be hit and miss and if they are tight it's only a matter of time before things get, floppy. (Nervously looks at my PoTp Abominus)

And since far as we know the team is kinda a one of thing so far, it seems reasonable that a different attachment system might be employed and THEN we could logically expect any subsequent combiners to use it.

Or, another wild wacky thought: Make each team have its own attachment style and system that fits with the limbs/vehicles and character :ic$:

Agreed 100%. The system is great, they need to find a way to keep it, just make the ratchets stronger. Most of my UW seem more stable than the CW counterparts.

However...Selects has been 2 for 2. King Poseidon and Abominus are floppy messes, whereas God Neptune and Volcanicus are pretty stable.

The fun of sharing the same system is the variety as well. Heck, I would have loved if they Incorporated Devastator and Predaking to use the same system. But I understand the reasons why they didn't. At least we got a version of LioKaiser out of it. I know most fans don like it, but I actually don't mind it, until other combiners that haven't had updated get done, then take another shot at a more original series accurate LioKaiser.

Actual size, has not been mentioned however.

There were, what, over a dozen unique sets of CW-style combiners? Including redecoes, there must be a hundred different versions of the limbs and torsos. I can't imagine with all of the existing combiner parts that adding more is necessary. If we're going to get new versions of characters and not just reissues, let's get some new versions!

Although I am not the biggest fan of Soundwave and Blaster, something I hadn't thought of until a possible rumor was just dropped in the SG thread....Since we already have Soundblaster from WFC Soundwave, I imagine Twincast would be an easy Selects recolor of Kingdom/ 2022 Blaster? The prospect excited me a bit, because while we have had several Sounblasters released over the past decade, I don't think Hasbro has ever officially released a version of Twincast.

OK, my prediction for Motormaster: I think the truck cab and first half of the trailer will form a very boxy, very panelly bot mode much like on the cartoon complete with "fake" truck feet. The rear half will turn into a base mode like the front half of this:

Image

This portion would also act as storage for hands and feet and also make extra arms for Menasor so we have the option for both of his animation models.

Image
Image

It was mainly just the arms that were different and it should be possible to make the gray arms connect like normal combiner limbs and make Deadend and Dragstrip connect to the arms in car mode using their own combiner pegs. Seems like it would be pretty easy to pull off.

Me looking at the latest leak report: I'm going to buy nearly every single one of these, how do they keep getting me

Legacy things to take away from said report:
-Possible case/wave breakdowns for the first 3 waves of Legacy
-Core Class Skullgrin
-Voyager Soundwave is apparently Prime Soundwave, not a Netflix repack

The other stuff was the Selects that were already mentioned on that thread a few days ago, Studio Series info that EvasionModeBB posted in the Studio Series thread a bit ago, and then the SS86 component of said SS info that has yet to be reposted here.

Out of what's listed here, I'm definitely buying all of the Prime characters (I had my fingers crossed that the Voyager Soundwave listing would be the Prime version), Elita-1, Tarantulas, Inferno, Starscream, G2 Optimus, Blitzwing and Dragon Megatron. It's just a shame that, based on these case assortments, I won't be able to get Inferno, Starscream or Dragon Megatron until late in the year, so it'll be a while before I can complete my Predacon line-up.

Voyagers are only 3 to a box, so that first wave has to either be Blaster x2 and Bulkhead x1 or vice-versa, not 2 of each.

VERY curious to see how Prime Soundwave turns out. I'm still uncertain how I would feel using that design as my definitive Soundwave, but I do really like the design and the character, so if it looks good maybe I'll just call him Synthwave instead to keep him while waiting for a design I like specifically as Soundwave better.

Also curious to see if Skullgrin gets his own mold, or if he's gonna be a repaint/retool of either Kingdom Megatron, this new G2 Megatron (assuming he isn't himself a repaint of Kingdom Megs), or Shockwave (depending on what kind of alt mode Shockwave's packing). Hopefully he and Iguanus do well enough to warrant more Pretender characters, I still crave an Octopunch.

Couldn't this change based on the packaging? Don't case packings change periodically, even if not every year?
