Did anyone here actually put in a preorder for that?
i would have, but by the time i actually saw BBTS's listing it was sold out. and i watch the big web stores pretty closely.

the only thing that worries me about takara is that they wont actually give us a full set. and i think i actually like the SDCC ones better anyways. the color placement on takaras are better so far, but hasbros use of chrome was done beautifully.

what baffles me is the knights of unicron set. its only 4 figures, its a novelty at best, AND its going between 200-300 bucks? whos buyin that?

I think its more than just the toys because they are not selling for high prices out of the set. Its about the record and the poster and just the set as a whole. The toys are almost secondary in nature which goes against the point to me but to each's own.

If anyone cares, here are the listings I am using for my inference:

I'm waiting to see if ACG Con gets SDCC's Dinobots, just like they got SDCC's Metroplex last year (with different colored decoys, of course, but that's such a minor detail). SDCC Metroplex sold out on BBTS for $260 I believe, but I decided to play the waiting game. It paid off: I was able to snag ACG Con 'Plex for $180 just a month ago during BBTS' Botcon Sale (only $20 more than the SDCC Hasbro Toy Shop listing). I'm crossing my fingers ACG Con gives us another shot at the Dinobots as well. I might not be able to wait as long for a Dinobots sale given how drastic and appealing the deco changes are, but hey, another shot is another shot (not to say I wouldn't wait if I could; I just think it would sell out way quicker than Metroplex did).

I think it was $160 at SDCC... but still, the deco changes, all the fabric and fluff pieces, and the addition of Animated cassette instruments and other cardboard display accessories makes this set REALLY appealing to me... and others too, apparently. Not $300 appealing, but I can see myself dropping $200 on the set. It's just so freaking ridiculous for me not too.

Besides... this is probably the only use of that awful Jazz mold that I will ever find acceptable. ;)

Now that's what I call low low prices!

I mean, I understand the appeal of the set - one of the awesome things about SDCC/ACG Con Metroplex was the presentation. That awesome box art, the gateway he comes in. It just screams premium, and is amazing as a display piece independent of the figure. Same with the Knights of Unicron. Presentation matters. It's the only reason SDCC Bruticus still sells for as much as it does, even with the Platinum set (with ugly Grimlock as a bonus!) available for cheaper.

I owned FOC Sideswipe - he was OK, I'll grant you that. But yes, I was being cheeky. If Takara's version of Jazz presented himself for a reasonably low price, I would find it hard to say no.

everyones hoping this is the beginning of a line of combiners. theres speculation that wildrider and slingshot were replaced by a helicopter and suv specifically to re-purpose them for future combiners.

In that case, I'm hoping that we get all combiners ever shown throughout all of the Transformers in this line.

I doubt that any non-G1 combiners will be acknowledged. If they make a Bruticus, it'd be so easy to turn him into RiD Ruination, but you know they never will.

Yeah, for Legends figures. Alpha Bravo probably won't fit on the helipad, if that's what you're implying.

Suck it in, Alpha Bravo!

Generations Metroplex actually has two helipads, on in his vehicle mode and a larger one in his city mode. The one in city mode might barely be able to accommodate a deluxe.

I had Voyager Sandstorm hanging out there for the longest time. It looked kind of dumb because he was so huge, but it's a helipad!

Fairly certain that the stegosaurus plates that pop off and fold outward are supposed to combine with the tail-piece to form a battleaxe. I think. :-?
