Oil slick bowed his head in acknowledgement to Scrapper’s orders. “Understood sir. The mission will be carried out with all due diligence.” He wasn’t lying either, as the chemical plant in question did have an element that would prove highly useful to their construction efforts. It wouldn’t be necessary to their work but it would prove highly beneficial. It would all look like a legitimate mission, and indeed it was one, just a mission that was secondary to his true goals.

The Decepticon stepped away from the Constructicons to leave them to their work. He contacted Soundwave on the ship in orbit, passing along his request and informing him of Scrapper’s authorization. In short order Oil Slick vanished in a beam of light.

Long Haul simply sat idling as Scavenger emptied his shovel into the back of the green dump truck. The weight of the dirt and assorted rocks was nothing compared to the ton of equipment he had just lugged to the cave site. That stuff was far heavier than anything the excavator could possibly dig up. It was good to feel useful even if it was just doing what Long Haul always did, which was to carry stuff here and there. It wasn’t a glamorous job, but it did serve its purpose.

“No problem, Scavenger. Glad I could help,” Long Haul replied as his comrade loaded more dirt into his truck bed. At the same time, Bonecrusher had now moved into the cave opening and began drilling into the rock, which created even more debris for the excavator to transfer into the Constructicon transport. “I wouldn’t mind seeing Darkride put out of his misery, either! That mech’s creepier than a hungry shrike-bat!” Long Haul shouted over all the noise ‘Crusher was making.

Once Scavenger informed them that the cave was now big enough to store all of the equipment, the green dump truck drove a short distance away from the site and deposited the mound of dirt and rocks he was carrying into a tall grassy area. After his rear bed was completely empty, Long Haul returned to the cave entrance where he transformed to robot mode and stood beside Scavenger and Bonecrusher. “Well, all of the rubble is out of the way so we now have plenty of room to move the equipment into the cave. I'm ready when you guys are."

Off the western shore of the Korean peninsula

Scrapper sighed as Scavenger contacted him. He didn't dislike the eager salvage expert, but niether was he a fan of his overeager trinket collection. Still, it wasn't impossible that he'd found something of value, just very unlikely.

Scrapper moves over to inspect the cave and the pile of rubble. "It looks like it'll do just fine. Get the equipment inside. As for the, erm, samples Scavenger, give them to Mixmaster for analysis. If theres any way to use them for the project, I'd like to know."

Scrapper paused to consider what the impact of mining here for metal or energy sources might mean. What if there was a reason to dig up this coastline, could they conceal themselves from the humans at the same time? Or would they have to trick the humans into thinking they were human vehicles supposed to be here? Subterfuge wasn't his strong point, and even less so for the other Constructicons. And anyone who would be able to pull off a trick like this, he likely couldn't trust...

Though it wasn't exactly praise, Scavenger was happy to know that the work he and the others had done was acceptible to his leader. He felt even greater self-worth when Scrapper didn't scold the excavator for his latest finds.

"You got it, boss!" the excavator said excitedly while saluting the Constructicon commander, "I'll get them to him right away!"

Almost instantly Scavenger forgot about Bonecrusher and Long Haul and moving the equipment into the cave. He transformed into his robot mode, and went to the pile of what he believed to be precious gems, metals and minerals. He got down on his knees and scooped up as many of the rocks as he could into his arms and hands. It was as much as he could possibly carry, almost high enough to block his sight. Carefully he carried them away, trying not to spill or drop anything valuable.

Wow, I must have really found something important! Scrapper wouldn't tell me to bring this to Mixmaster if he throught it was a waste of time! Maybe I'll get a promotion for this!

After what seemed to be breems walking, the mining and salvage specialist finally reached the Constructicon chemist, who was already in his alt. mode. Scavenger slowly walked to him and gently dropped his colorful, shiny rocks into a pile on the ground next to the cement mixer.

"You're gonna love these, Mixmaster", Scavenger said proudly, "I found them while we were digging out the cave, and Scrapper told me to bring them to you to analyze. I bet there'll be all kinds of useful materials in there!"

Mixmaster had been churning up as much of the local terrain as possible and turning it into basic compounds that could be used later. Others in their ranks had more ambitious plans for going about what needed doing and that suited him just fine. The Constructicon Chemical Engineer wasn’t really interested in these more mundane tasks right now anyway. His circuits were surging with the potential of what lay before them. It took most of his already somewhat random attention span to stay focused.

De…va…sta…tor……..heheheheh….it even has the sound of a Decepticon leader. A leader for a new age, Mixmaster thought. Once it was all said and done, he couldn’t help but wonder which of their personalities would come to the forefront. Or, when they were in that mode, would they lose their individual consciousness’ altogether? So many exciting possibilities!

Mixmaster then registered Scavenger's approach. Unlike several of the other Constructicons, the chemist did not hold any particular hostility towards the approval-seeking Decepticon. His mind was usually too focused on other things. That kind of attitude was probably going to get Scavenger killed someday, when he went seeking approval form the wrong, tough-as-nails Decepticon but, eh, something was going to get all of them eventually, right?

One of his peripheral scanners examined the pile of minerals that Scavenger had laid down near him.

"Ooooh....very very very interesting. Yes. And are there more in this little 'cave' you made?"

Scavenger nervously waited for Mixmaster to finish his scan of the minerals the excavator had brought over. He hoped beyond hope that he had found something useful, that for once he hadn't just found a bunch of useless junk. When the Constructicon chemist asked if there was more, Scavenger was overjoyed that he had stumbled on to something of value.

"Well sure, I suppose there should be more in there." he gladly answered, until he came to a realization and go a little nervous, "But, uh, the other guys are filling up the cave with the equipment that can't go underwater. I suppose I could probably find some in the other hills, though, with Scrapper's permission."

Mixmaster transformed and scooped up a handful of Scavenger's minerals, his intrigue with that his fellow Constructicon had found growing. There were some rare elements mixed in with a lot of this world's terrestrial muck. It would be beneficial to all of them if they could find more such raw material.

"Eh, we'll wait. No need to bother Scrapper with trivial curiosities like this. Buuuuuut....definitely something to play with later, heheheh.'

Long Haul nodded when Scrapper gave the order to load the equipment into the cave he had just inspected. “No problem, boss! We’ll get right on it!” The green transport walked over to the pile of gear he had helped carry to the excavation site and picked up an assortment of tools in his arms. Long Haul then turned around and frowned when he noticed that Scavenger had abandoned him and Bonecrusher in favor of showing off his precious gems to Mixmaster, a task that Scrapper had previously given his okay to do. The chemical specialist would likely be pleased with the find, but none of that assisted in getting the equipment stored away any faster.

“Well, I guess we’re on our own, ‘Crusher. Seems Scavers has better things to do than menial labor,” Long Haul commented to the demolitions expert as he walked by him and entered the cave, placing the first bundle of hardware against a side wall. The Constructicon transporter then exited the underground storage chamber and made his way back over to the pile of gear, all the while hoping that Scavenger would hurry back as Long Haul sensed that Bonecrusher would be less than willing to help out to any great extent.

Off the western shore of the Korean Peninsula

Scrapper was about to lend a hand to Bonecrusher and Long Haul, when a transmission from the Ultrax came in. It gave him pause, he'd hoped that they might have a bit more time to get established before having to talk to their new 'commander' again.

Scrapper looked over at Hook, wondering if he should consult with his second on this, but there didn't seem to be much need. They weren't partaking in any actual subterfuge yet, merely preparing in case subterfuge became the smart option. There was nothing to hide, the only issue would be having anyone visit them as they worked, which would just cause difficulties. It was more a diplomatic matter than anything else, and Hook wasn't exactly a master of diplomacy...

Scrapper began carefully composing a response, thinking over each of his words several times, before send it back to the Ultrax.

Consistency and doing one’s duty were two things that could best describe Thundercracker’s ability to follow orders. Not one to dream of the slaughter of battle he did enjoy the moments where he could be alone and contemplate what exactly was his role in the grand scheme of things. While he wouldn’t question his orders openly he did wonder why he’d been ordered to guard the Constructicons during their efforts on the peninsula beneath him while his Seeker brethren were off fighting against some Autobot force elsewhere.

The question as to whether he did something to deserve this sad assignment crossed his mind but he pushed it aside. He was there because he was trusted so the mission below him had to be of importance. He just wished someone had told him what the mission was exactly.

>>Starscream to all teams. Check in with a status report on your current assignments.<<

The message wasn’t expected and Thundercracker hesitated as it shook him form his thoughts.

>>Thundercracker here Starscream. Commencing as instructed. No signs of Autobots or Humans near the perimeter.>>

Was Starscream becoming impatient or curious? Thundercracker continued on his circular course.

"Yeah. Really important stuff I bet." Bonecrusher muttered in response to Long Haul while he followed the other Constructicon out of their dig site. But instead of grabbing a load of equipment to carry into the cave like Long Haul had done, Bonecrusher walked over to Scrapper.

"So we have a fancy cave now. Not much of a base. I could bring it down with couple of well placed punchers." Bonecrusher spoke up. He did not follow Scrapper and Hook out of fear. Both of the more intelligent Constructicons knew it and had learned to accept the fact that Bonecrusher spoke to them like they were not his superiors. "So what's next?"

Off the western shore of the Korean peninsula

Oil Slick rematerialized in the midst of the Constructicons and other Decepticons continuing their work. He walked back over to where Darkride was continuing the work he had left him with. The Decepticon grabbed a hose from the chemical mixer and attached it to one of his tanks. The device began slowly draining the stabilizing chemical he had taken from the human facility.

“This should help strengthen any remaining elements we construct from these chemicals. We should be able to begin some preliminary construction of scaffolding, assuming a proper site has been chosen,” he said to Darkride. He leaned in closer to the other Decepticon, “I also have some additional information that may prove of value to you and I amongst the ranks. I cannot speak of it openly however, but I am sure there will be a chance soon.” It was a gamble to be sure to even mention this to Darkride, but his assistance would provide some additional cover to how he was obtaining this secret information. The fact that the other Decepticon was shunned among the ranks meant that he would have no one else to confide with either, making him an ideal partner in his scheme. There would be little chance of betrayal on his part.

*

Hook was more then happy to allow Scrapper to deal with Starscream as the representative of the Constructicons. That was one of the few things when it came to the leadership role that he was happy to not have to deal with. He was not particularly interested or skilled in politics, let alone the art of aft kissing someone like Starscream. That was one skill he would happily allow his fellow Constructicon to have the honor of being superior to him at.

The surgical engineer glanced back at Bonecrusher in slight annoyance as he gave his opinion about the cave. The simpleton always viewed things by how he could destroy them. It made sense in that his specialty was demolitions, but it also put him so far below him. It was always far easier to destroy then to create, and Hook was the creator and Bonecrusher the destroyer.

“I would assume the next steps will be bringing the more delicate machinery into the cave and finding a suitable spot for large scale construction.” He let out a slight sigh. “Which will mean going beneath the foul, polluted water. It will be difficult getting my usual exacting measurements in such inclement conditions.”

Scavenger had never been too comfortable being around Mixmaster. More than once he worried that he would do or say the wrong thing, or he would make one too many mistakes and give the materials fabricator reason to put the excavator into his mixing drum. So with his side project now done, Scavenger decided to get back to work with the others.

"Well, in that case I'd better help take care of the equipment.", Scavenger said, "Don't wanna make the boss wait too long for this new base."

Scavenger transformed to his excavator mode.

Might as well keep looking on the way there. No telling what other valuables might be under ground.

Slowly Scavenger headed towards the cave where Long Haul and Bonecrusher were working, scanning the area with his shovel for anything that might be important.

"Heheheh, no no no, mustn't keep Scrapper waiting. Too many good things on the horizon for us!" Mixmaster giggled in a deranged sort of way, his attention otherwise completely focused on the mineral desposit that Scavenger had brought to his attention.

The Constructicon Chemical Engineer transformed once again, several wires and hoses snaking out of the underside of his vehicle mode and plunging themselves in to the ground below him.

Off the western shore of the Korean Peninsula

Scrapper took the news of incoming supplies with mixed feelings. On the one hand, it should serve to get the project moving much faster, but on the other, there was the distinctly unappealing prospect of having to deal with Baneblade again. Still, he could hardly say no to the shipment, so he would wait for its arrival.

Bonecrushers approach was a welcome distraction. The cantankerous demolition experts tendency to skirt insubordination was a reminder that Scrapper still had his team with him, and they had a job to do. And the same could be said for Hooks rather pointless observation that working underwater would make things harder. It was little positive negatives like this that helped Scrapper get back into the mood to work, even if the dire situation with the missing Megatron was still niggling the back of his processor.

"We'll compensate for the inexactitude with robust engineering, like we've done before. Once we have the building frame assembled and sealed, we can begin in earnest. Mixmaster! Darkride! Oil Slick! Supplies of metal will be arriving shortly, but I want the polymer bubble produced regardless. By using both materials we can make a light bubble supported by a frame, and save on time and material."

The engineer pulls out a datapad and begins sketching the thin plastic plates he wants. "We'll worry about Stealth Coatings and the like later. Right now we must find our building site while the chemists produce the first batch. Scavenger, Bonecrusher, prepare for the search. We'll find our site and dig the foundations while the others work with the incoming supplies."

Darkride spared Oil Slick a brief gaze when the chemist rematerialized in the middle of the construction site. The interrogator smiled broadly as he continued his work knowing full well Oil Slick was already headed in his direction. Darkride glanced over when the chemist attached a hose to one of his tanks and began draining its contents. The shorter mech nodded in understanding when Oil Slick mentioned that the chemical would aid them significantly in their work.

“It’s a good thing too. I was getting bored trying to get all of this done without it.”

The purple ‘Con let out a raucous laugh as he finally stepped away from his work and approached his closest acquaintance.

“Not only that, but I was beginning to think that I was in on this alone.”

The interrogator’s smile faded quickly as he glared directly into the other’s optics. The deep crimson of his optics cast an eerie glow over his face. He prided himself on being deadly, even without direct engagement. He did know, however, he had no effect on Oil Slick, but it still didn’t mean he needed to change who he was.

The deviant’s expression soon returned to a more jovial appearance as he listened intently to Oil Slick’s proclamation of some ‘additional information’. He let out a defeated moan when his soon to be accomplice announced that the information would have to wait until they were in a more secluded locale.

“You do know it’s entirely unfair to dangle that proverbial bone and then yank it back. If I weren’t so intrigued by what you have to divulge I would have torn you apart and accessed your processors myself.”

He let out a guffaw before patting his comrade on the shoulder. Darkride then nodded in concession.

“Alright. We’ll wait, but not too long. I’m simply dripping with anticipation.”

Just then the interrogator heard Scrapper bellow over the din of construction. Darkride let out an exasperated sigh while looking over his shoulder at the Constructicon commander.

“What I wouldn’t give to have him on my table….he and his weak willed comrade.”

He turned to look back at Oil Slick licking his lips at the thought of breaking down the two Contructicons’ will.

“What a sparkwarming thought.”

Thundercracker banked and turned back towards their temporary base of operations on the Korean peninsular. He sent out a message for one of his subordinates to continue with the planned security sweep while he refilled his energon levels. Given that he hadn’t used that much it shouldn’t take more than a breem for him to top off his reserves before the transfer of materials was to begin. Nothing was to go wrong, of that he would personally ensure and silently wished Starscream and the others luck against the Autobots and tried to forget his own urge to take part in the battle..

Thinking about the battle he was missing he couldn’t help but become curious as to how Skywarp was handling himself as field commander. The thought had both a chilling and interesting feel to it. While he had faith in his friend, Skywarp wasn’t one used to giving orders. Neither was he but they were forced to learn to aide their cause.

Both his and Skywarp’s positions were relatively knew to them and would take some time to adjust. The amount of Decepticon casualties were what bothered Thundercracker the most during their said period of adjustment. Because of their ranks being stretched so thin some that weren’t designed for combat had been forced into service. Those sparks would be on their hands should either of them fail in following Starscream’s instructions. Was this something they truly wanted?

His processor was full of similar questions as he neared the excavation site of the Constructicons. Two Seekers streaked past him offering their regards as they took their turn on patrol. As strange as it was in an eon old war to say, Thundercracker had the feeling things were about to become… complicated.

"Yeah sure. I will prepare for the search." Bonecrusher grunted and turned to walk away before suddenly stopping on his tracks. "Eh, lead the way boss, I have no idea what we should be searching for."

Before Scrapper replied to Bonecrusher's statement however, rumbling of powerful engines caught the attention of the resident brute of the Constructicon unit. Few seconds later, the familiar form of Astrotrain appeared in the horizon, the military transport's speed clearly being less than the speed of sound at this point. "And there comes the team big and ugly."

Scavenger was getting disappointed that his shovel hadn't found anything interesting since he left Mixmaster. However, his search would have to wait as he received the order from Scrapper.

"Huh? Oh, find a foundation. Sure thing, you got it boss.", the excavator replied to his commander, "No problem at all. I'll find us a great spot!"

Scavenger stopped rolling towards and cave and changed directions toward the ocean, since he had been told earlier that the new base would be underwater. Again not waiting for Bonecrusher he neared the shore, when he heard the sounds of Astrotrain's rockets booming from above.

"Awww," he said disappointed, "Not more of them! Why can't it just be us Constructicons?"

>>"Workin' me to the bone, heheheh. Well...as the humans say,"<< Mixmaster chuckled in response to Scrapper's latest set of orders.

The polymer compounds were coming along nicely, despite Mixmaster's momentary distraction with Scavenger's findings. That, too, was useful in its own way. The Constructicon Chemical Engineer could only wonder what all sorts of raw materials these little H2O and C02 skinbags had available to them on this mudball. He was going to enjoy finding out, just as he had before.

Enroute to the Constructicon area of operations

Baneblade sat in the cramped cargo bay of Astrotrain, looking around and scowled under his face plate when Ramplate voiced his displeasure with the idea of getting wet.

"Your complaint is acknowledged and rejected. You sound like a protoform bleeting when exposed to something new and uncomfortable. Such an attitude is unbecoming of a Decepticon soldier, I suggest you learn to change it. Quickly. Astrotrain, bring us down so we can deliver our cargo to the Constructicons. Than scan the area for the largest transport ship we can find. Also check in with Soundwave to see if he can locate a vessel carrying a sufficent supply of steel."

Motto: "I am no God, nor a force of good to bring peace into their world. I am at best, a sword to separate those who will from those who won't."
Weapon: Shrapnel Rifle
Ramplate grimaced at Baneblade's words. He'd suck it up for now, but that didn't change his feelings about getting wet. His thrusters were going to be useless, and the same with his anti-grav pods. He didn't like the idea of them shorting out midway through a mission, and the salt content would be like acid to them! Still, orders were orders, he supposed. 'Heh, I'll just get some of the Constructicons to fix it. Not like anyone else could...' he thought.

Weapon: Energo-Sword
Off the western shore of the Korean Peninsula

Oil Slick maintained his typical blank expression through the conversation with Darkride. While he was as close to a friend as the chemist got he still failed to elicit any strong emotions from him. He was neither intimidated by his remarks nor amused by his jokes. He simply listened and continued his work, absorbing his words and looking at them in an analytical light. The Decepticon simply nodded at his request to not keep him waiting for long on filling him in on his information. Of course when he would get the opportunity to tell him about it was out of his hands, but he would endeavor to tell him at the first opportunity. He wanted him as a confidant and telling him sooner would keep prevent him from getting too anxious over the secret information.

The chemical expert frowned at Scrapper’s new request. A polymer bubble or dome would require a much different structure then the pieces he had been creating so far. He could adapt but it would mean a loss of some time. Nothing could be done though and so he moved to the completed parts, spraying them with an agent that would break them back down so the components could be recycled into appropriate parts.

Oil Slick looked up at Darkride as he commented on the Constructicons. “They were always builders first and warriors a distant second. That is why they act the way they do. This is there battlefield, their lab or, in your case, their interrogation room. They are in their element as opposed to when they are on a battlefield. It is little surprise that they may seem somewhat arrogant, although they are typically right.”

Hook listened as Scrapper issued new orders. He wasn’t particularly looking forward to going into the foul water, but it had to be done. It was one of the many annoyances he suffered through for the good of the cause. Perhaps some day, after Devastator was complete, such work would be delegated to someone of less importance.

The Constructicon glanced upwards as Astrotrain flew overhead, carrying their supplies and likely a load of Decepticon goons who would get in the way. As if he hadn’t had enough of that in his lifetime.

"There's very little scanning I am able to perform while being grounded and waiting for you to unload my cargo." Was Astrotrain's reply to Baneblade's latest orders through his internal speakers. What he did not voice however was his displeasure of being delegated to contact Soundwave. Astrotrain was not interested in asking any favors from the communications officer. Particularly after the way their last encounter had went by.

"Nor it is necessary. And neither is giving Soundwave more work to do. I figure him being pretty busy as it is covering for everything our distraction teams are doing right now." The military transport spoke as he landed softly to the beach where the Constructicons were gathered. "Thundercracker and the Cyberjets have been monitoring this area for hours now. Should be easy enough to get the information we want from them."

As he opened his cargo bay to allow his passengers to exit, Astrotrain sent out a transmission to Thundercracker, the leader of the security team assigned to protect the Constructicons. >>"Thundercracker, this is Astrotrain. Requesting information on possible sightings of human cargo ships or military ships within your unit's radar sensor."<<

"Hnn. Forget about them Scavenger." Bonecrusher, who had quickly slipped away from Scrapper and Hook when he had noticed the approaching Decepticons - replied to Scavenger's wailing about more military oriented Decepticons entering the area. "Let's just find what the frag we were supposed to find before Scrapper tells us to help unloading those steel bars from Astrotrain."

"I wouldn't mind seeing our busy leaders to do some manual labor of their own." He added as he marched in to the endless looking water mass that opened up before his optical sensors.
