Yellow Sea- On the Shore

Vortex's engines pivoted into full gear as the first shell whizzed passed his body as he flew forward at speed over the battlefield. The triple changers had already joined in on the strafing runs, targeting the heavily armed ground troops of invading Autobots. The second shell was angled directly into his adjusted flight path, as if predicted by some advanced computer that the Interrogator had previously believed Hard Head lacked.

He cut his engines immediately and allowed himself to stall out and plummet several dozen feet, barely avoiding being breached by the explosive counter strike volley. The second shell exploded where he had been sending a shower of shrapnel fragments that pelted his rotors as he kicked them back to full. "Scrap... Now I am going to spend the next cycle picking metal particles from my turbo prop." Vortex was distracted enough with the clang of metal in his engines that he almost forgot about the third shell as it rocketed towards him with lethal intent.

The Decepticon copter kicked his rotor into hyper speeds and forced himself to gain altitude. Below him a tight funnel of air began to form as he rose through the clouds, pounding the shell as its speed began to slow. Eventually it rose to meet the mouth of the spinning vortex and soon it was only a meter away from the belly of the Decepticon when it detonated. Vortex's armor was peppered with shell fragments and carbon scars.

Vortex grunted as he entered into a tight spin pivoting towards the sea. His communication signal erupted with a static burst then an irritated grinding voice on the other end. "Yeah yeah. I heard ya. But I don't think this base is the actual target. Not enough scraplets down there to even hope to make a successful assault."

Adjusting his damaged rotors, and markedly slowed by pieces of shell shrapnel that had punctured several portions along the air foil, Vortex began a rapid descent towards the deck. With a inner wince of pain, Vortex pushed his stabilizing rotor to adjust his descent angle once more to the direction where the shells had originated. He fired a barrage of rockets towards the Autobots, without a target lock but at least enough of a memory algorithm to have a generalized read out of Autobot positions. Nearly a dozen rockets flew from his wing pods as he fell below the tree line and reverted to robot form.

"Ya know Onslaught," Vortex continued, "even with all these Autoguns its hard to beat a bit of air superiority." His weapon was drawn as he began the slow process of moving from cover to cover as he headed back to the sea shore and the salty brine where his three comrades were manning the defenses. Talk about dull.

Before she had turned her optics back on Saferoute could feel Hex letting go of her rifle, the moment they went back online she saw the young mech literally bend over backward to avoid her shot. Too slow to react, she could only watch as her weapon was removed from her hands and tossed. She stared at her empty hands, then at Hex in front of her. She didn't know whether to be angrier at him for fooling her, or at herself for falling for such a ploy.

"You....", she grumbled clenching her teeth, anger with a hint of doubt in her optics, "You....."

Quickly she ran a system check and her diagnostic computer showed that her bus form was unusable. The blast she had taken earlier had damaged most of the armor that composed the front of her alternate mode. If she transformed she'd only move as fast as her rear wheels could drag her. Even worse, her lasers and missile launcher were disabled. There'd be no quick getaway, and she was now completely weaponless.

There's no point running away or going for my gun, he'd catch me before I took one step., she thought as she raised her fists up in a defensive position, Warpath's slagged, I don't know where Ricochet is, and I can't get a signal up to the Guardian for help. I guess there's no choice but to go down swinging.

She took a deep intake, her optics locked onto Hex, she took a cautious step forward. Her only chance was to stay close to him, keep him from using his superior speed and quickness. Of course if Hardhead was any indication, there was no telling just how much stronger and tougher Hex was. Saferoute tried not to think about that part.

"All right, no more head games Hex.", Saferoute said with as much conviction as she could, pulling her arm back, then throwing a hard left hook at the young mech's face.

Weapon: Energo-Sword
On Shore – Tree Line

Kup, Ironhide and the Protectobots materialized just inside of the forest bordering the shoreline where the Decepticons had been working not too long ago. It took only a quick glance to figure out that they were far too late to prevent a battle. Gunfire, shouts and the sound of Decepticons rocketing through the air greeted them all on their arrival. Kup grimaced as he hefted his musket.

“Spread out, but stay in the tree line. Ironhide, I want you on the right flank, Hot Spot on the left. Ideally we just provide some covering fire for our wayward bots as they fall back to our position. If that doesn’t work then we move forward and just envelop the lot of them, Bot or Con, and deal with ‘em on way or the other. First Aid will stay towards the rear, Groove you can cover ‘em. I’m betting there will be wounded from the sounds of things. I want both of you ready to run out there quickly and grab anyone who can’t walk on their own. This tree line will be our fallback position if necessary.”

Ironhide heft his rifle and nodded at Kup. It was a sound strategy and he had nothing really to add to it. He’d worked with Kup long enough to trust him. He quickly jogged through the woods to take position on the right flank. The tree provided some cover, even if it wasn’t the best. Hopefully no one had seen them quite yet. The Autobot took up position behind a large tree, kneeling behind it and peering around it, ready for the order to fire. Covering fire didn’t need to be accurate, but there needed to be a lot of it. Hopefully they had enough to discourage any Cons from charging them.

“Yes sir!” Hot Spot replied to Kup. He turned to his team. “Blades, Streetwise, take up positions between Kup and the flanks. We want it to look like there are more Autobots here then there are so keep mobile, fire from multiple positions. Hopefully we can full the Decepticons into thinking there are a lot more of us here then there are. If we can get them to hesitate we can get out of here quickly and safely.”

With those additional orders given Hot Spot jogged to the left flank of their makeshift battle line. He took up a kneeling position behind a fallen tree. He would have to be careful with his fire lest he ignite their fallback position.

As the Autobots moved into position Kup glanced back out at the shore in front of them. Hopefully all of these Bots would just come running to them peacefully and they could get out of here. He’d been fighting this war to know that whatever you hoped for was the least likely thing to happen though. He let out a quiet sigh before opening a communication line on an Autobot frequency.

>>”Autobots, this is Kup. You are ordered to withdraw to the tree line if at all possible. You will be provided with covering fire. If you are wounded and need medical care it can be provided immediately. If you are unable to reach us transmit your location and you will be retrieved. Disregarding or disobeying these orders will not be tolerated.”<<

Now they just had to wait. As soon as he spotted some Autobots moving towards them he would give the open fire order. Until then he wanted to hold the element of surprise for as long as he could.

Streetwise took in their surroundings after the disorientation of the orbital bounce had cleared up. The roar of gunfire and Decepticons careening through the skies above flooded his audio receptors. In response, the interceptor drew out his photon pistol wordlessly. He listened to the grizzled old timer's orders, trusting the veteran's judgment. Whether or not Hot Rod was being manipulated could be dealt with after all of them had been extracted from the hot zone.

"Yes sir, boss bot!" As Hot Spot turned and jogged away, Streetwise jogged through the trees, sliding to a stop and kneeling behind a tree as he came close to the edge of the treeline. An upraised dirt bank provided a little additional cover. Not a lot, but any advantage could help. Streetwise settled in behind the tree, tense and waiting for the open fire order from Kup. He'd start moving around then.

The interceptor glanced out onto the shore. This whole Hot Rod business left a sick feeling in his spark. If Howlstike had been dealt with so severely, who knew what had happened to the others? Streetwise shifted his grip on his photon pistol and ducked behind the tree again as Kup issued the order for the others to fall back on the Autobot frequency.

They were past the point of no return now. Hopefully, the renegade Autobots would listen to the order and fall back peacefully, but the Protectobot didn't truly expect thing to go smoothly. They rarely did. If Groove was right, something more sinister was going on. He trusted his pacifistic friend, but he sincerely hoped that Groove was wrong.

And here we go...

Hardhead was displeased that his first two shells had failed to hit their mark. These Cybertronians were not to be taken lightly, even for a herald. However, that displeasure was soon replaced with a feeling of accomplishment as the third shell exploded directly beneath the Combaticon interrogator, sending Vortex spiraling out of control and forcing him to the ground beneath the tree line. Of course, like a true Decepticon, the alien helicopter did not go down without a fight, firing off a barrage of rockets in the former Autobot’s direction. Multiple explosions went off all around the Stryker armored vehicle as it remained stationary. There were a few close calls, as a couple of missiles detonated close by, but no direct hits.

“Those almost tickled me,” Hardhead mused as he returned to his robot mode once the dust and debris had settled and immediately began scanning the area where Vortex had gone down. The green herald moved towards his prey as he caught sight of the fleeing Combaticon heading for the sea. Drawing out his pair of shatterblasters, the war veteran prepared to desecrate his Cybertronian target. “You can’t hide from me behind cover forever, ‘Con. When I get a clear shot, you’ll understand that your fate is already....”

Hardhead’s words were interrupted by the communication from Kup, ordering all Autobots to withdraw to the tree line or face the consequences of not doing so. The herald chuckled under his breath at the old timer’s ultimatum. If the aged mech only knew what he was really up against, he would not make such demands. Soon, very soon, Kup and the rest of them would understand that they were no longer in control of the situation.

Stopping his advance, Hardhead turned and walked back at a slow pace towards the tree line where Kup and the other Autobots were now hiding. A smile creeped across his faceplate as the veteran soldier reached the spot where Warpath’s headless body still lay. Moving past the stasis-locked crimson warrior, the green herald found the served cranial unit and picked it up in one hand before opening a comm line back to Kup and his group of saviors:

>>”I’m afraid, Kup, that Warpath will be unable to respond to your orders. You see, he got so carried away down here that he just lost his fraggin’ head! Ha ha ha!!”<<

Hardhead’s laughter echoed across the sands towards the edge of the shoreline as some of the Autobots took up flanking positions on both sides. It was of no concern to him as he then tossed Warpath’s cranium directly ahead into the trees where it would land near Kup and whomever else remained by his side. The decapitated head was intended as a warning as well as a sign that the war veteran would not be complying with any orders given by a mere Cybertronian.

>>”As for myself, well, if you want me, Kup, you’ll have to come out here and get me, old timer!! Ha ha ha!!!”<<

On Shore - Abandoned Storage Cave

Ricochet remained in a crouching position near the center of the cave while still holding on to the makeshift dagger he had obtained from a found piece of torn metal. With his cranial light shining straight ahead, the expert marksman carefully scanned the walls of the dark chamber for any signs of his tormentor. “Where are you, Darkride?! I know you’re here somewhere! Face me you cowardly slagger!!” There was no immediate response from the supernatural interrogator. Instead, the only voice he now heard was Kup’s, coming through his comm link. The message was a bit garbled as it had to pass through the thick walls of the cave, but the gunner could still ascertain the old timer's words. Hopefully, his response would reach the Autobots without much audio distortion.

>>”Kup, this is Ricochet. I read you. Unfortunately, I’m not able to come to you right at the moment. I’m currently trapped underground inside a collapsed cave with Darkride about a mile or so away from the beach. I’m sending my coordinates to you now. Be warned, Rodimus, Hardhead and Hex are all traitors! I know that may be very hard to believe, but they turned against Saferoute, Warpath and myself once we bounced down here! Darkride is with them, as well, and they are all exhibiting almost supernatural like agility and strength. Be extremely cautious when you approach them! They are no longer your friends! Do you read me?!”<<

Ricochet broke off his communiqué with Kup when he heard a sound coming from somewhere behind him. The marksman spun around, placing his free hand down on the ground to help balance himself. “We don’t have much more time, Darkride,” the black and gold mech said as he kept a close watch on the darkness that surrounded him, his makeshift dagger at the ready. “I know you like cutting yourself you sick, twisted fragger. But, why go to all that trouble when I can eviscerate you, myself? Heh. What? You think you’re the only one who likes to inflict pain and suffering on others? Well, you’re not. It’s one of the reasons I’m not well liked amongst my own comrades. So, why don’t we just end this little dance of ours and get down to business already before my ‘friends’ arrive?”

On Shore

“That’s good. Very good. Get mad.”

Hex flashed the bus-former a sinister grin as he took a careful step backward. If there was one thing he understood about these miserable creatures was that they were subject to making snap judgments and rash decisions…just as all inferior races were prone to.

“I know you wanna kill me. I know you wanna see me suffer, but you’re an Autobot…you have a…code.”

The youthful mech let out a condescending laugh as he began to slowly circle the femme. He stopped however; when Saferoute demanded he end his head games…hysterical ranting of a mechanism who had no idea that today was her last day of existence…although he had to give her props for trying.

His smile faded as he regarded Saferoute…his head tilting inquisitively to the right. His contemplative posture was abandoned when the larger femme pulled her arm back and threw a hard left hook aimed directly at Hex’s face.

As if anticipating the maneuver from the beginning the young scout shifted his body weight slightly to the left easily avoiding the femme’s flying balled up actuator. He watched the whole scenario unfold as if everything around him moved in slow-motion with Saferoute’s attack breezing just inches past his face. Before she could recover, Hex reached over with both hands and took a hold of the femme’s forearm. With his grip secured the young herald pulled her arm closer to him and flashed her that same sinister smile that had been plastered on his visage only moments before.

“I wanna play a game. It’s called ‘Save the Innocents.’ The rules are simple…stop me before I kill your friends…the inhabitants of this planet and those sweet little creatures you hold so close to your spark.”

Hex grew serious and tightened his grip on Saferoute’s forearm.

“You fashion yourself a savior…a freedom fighter…a mechanism that must help any and all sentient beings. But answer me this, Saferoute…who will save you?”

Hex finally released the femme’s arm and stepped back leaving plenty of space between him and the much larger Autobot.

“I wanna know if you have what it takes to survive and still be a hero.”

On Shore – Tree Line

The disorientation was probably the only thing that First Aid would never get used to. No matter how often he was bounced down to a planet the dizzying effects always got to him. The doctor quickly placed a hand on a nearby tree to steady his stance and also buying himself just a little bit of time to quell the uncomfortable feeling.

His attention was then drawn to Kup as the old warhorse began to issue orders to the small group. It was then that First Aid noticed the heavy weapons’ fire…not to mention the sound of shouting coming from only Primus knew who.

When his name was spoken, First Aid was sure to pay close attention to just what Kup had to say. He would be one of the more crucial arrivals as he would need to patch up and secure any and all of the wounded. The doctor offered the elder ‘Bot a nod of understanding and took a quick glance back to his good friend, Groove.

First Aid moved up carefully to a position just behind Kup’s position, but keeping in mind that he’d need to wait until the Commander’s say so before he would be able to get out there and retrieve their wounded.

On Shore – Abandoned Storage Cave

It started in low, but the sound of Darkride’s cruel laughter began to fill the entire cave’s interior. The echoes bounced the maniacal cackling against one wall to another in such quick succession that there was little possibility the source could be traced.
The sound finally began to die down only to let through the soft and steady melody of dripping water. So peaceful. Such a wonderful final resting place for such a miserable being.

“Torture you? Oh my dear, Ricochet, but I have been torturing you.”

Darkride’s words rolled off his tongue like the finest velvet…low and husky. And by the time he had finished speaking he was, again, standing beside his prey. So close the interrogator was prepared to make his move when he stopped…it wasn’t time to end this ‘dance.’

The slim mech carefully positioned his face next to Ricochet’s left audio…his heated breath rhythmically beating gently against the side of the black and gold ‘Bot’s head.

“You see…this is the most effective kind of torture…”

The words slipped from his mouth in a hushed tone, but as quickly as they penetrated his opposite’s audio, Darkride was gone taking up another position further into the cave.

“…there is no blood…there is no need for it. What there is, my delectable morsel, is uncertainty…crippling doubt. And dare I say it…fear. It is all in your head...before I take it from you.”

Another rousing session of laughter filled the cave answering Ricochet’s sorry attempt at his own mind game.

“You? Eviscerate me? I am sorry, but I will have to decline. You see, I have already performed such a delicate procedure and it never really did satisfy me.”

Darkride moved out of the shadows and fell within Ricochet’s light beam. He approached with a slow even steady gait…no hesitation. But he stopped just a few feet out of the Autobot’s reach.

“You have no idea what pain and suffering is. You use pain in order to ease your own suffering. You see, Ricochet, we are not all that different. For what is pain without suffering…and suffering without pain? Let me end your suffering through pain. I can even make it therapeutic for you.”

The herald’s head tilted ever so slightly to the right as he took in the mech before him and his words.

“You believe that do you? You believe your, so called, comrades will help after you told me you were not well liked among them? My dear, dear, Ricochet, do not delude yourself. Your savior, Kup, will not be coming.”

Darkride was already a blur as he closed the distance between him and his prey. With his clawed hands outstretched, the interrogator attempted to grip the Autobot’s shoulders and pin him hard against the wall behind him. From there he would just nature take its course.

Groove quickly shook off his disorientation after materializing with the rest of the Autobots. He shivered a little as the sounds and sights of the area reached his processors, the battle had already begun. Groove would have given anything to go back and prevent this from happening earlier when he had the chance, but now it was too late.

Can't dwell on that now, Groove. You need to focus on the task at hand.

Groove nodded to Kup as he received his orders, then looked to First Aid. Though he tried not to show it, he was somewhat relieved that his orders were to help protect his close friend and any incoming casualties. He hated violence, but using it to protect others was a lighter burden on his spark.

"Don't worry, I'll keep you and your patients safe, First Aid.", he assured his friend as he took a few steps into position.

Groove waited along with First Aid for any signs of casualties, when he heard something falling into their cover just a few yards away from him. At first thinking it was a grenade, the scout readied his vaporator cannon to disable it and ran closer. It wasn't a grenade though, but that gave Groove no relief when he saw what it was.

"Dear Primus, no!", Groove tried to overcome his horror as he recognized the severed head on the ground, "Warpath!"

On Shore

Saferoute was starting to realize how futile things were as Hex avoided yet another of her attacks. Before she knew it the young mech had grabbed hold of her arm hard, much harder than she thought he'd be able to. Obviously Hex's strength had been increased just like Rodimus and Hardhead.

She tried to shake him off but it was of little use, and she was forced to look right at the traitor's sickening smile. At first she kept stern, trying not to let the young mech's words get to her. That didn't last for long though, as he threatened the innocent lives of Earth's natives.

"No......", she growled as she still struggled to free her arm from Hex's grip, "Don't you dare hurt them!"

Saferoute heard little of what Hex had to say after, as all she could think of were the dead human bodies she saw in El Dorado. They were innocent, fragile creatures, every one of them on this planet. How anyone would want to harm them..... She wouldn't stand for it.

Finally Hex let go of her, as the young mech taunted her about whether or not she would survive. It was then that receieved the communication from Kup, announcing that reinforcements had arrived and ordering her to fall back to their position.

Had she received his message a breem earlier, she would have complied. But Hex had crossed a line, and Saferoute was no longer thinking rationally.

>>I hear you, Kup, but I'm not leaving until I know this piece of slag won't hurt anyone.<<

Abruptly closing her comm line, Saferoute's narrowed her optics and stared straight at Hex, that smile still on his faceplate.

"It doesn't matter if I survive..... I won't let you hurt anyone", she roared as she lunged at Hex with reckless abandon, throwing her fist wildly.

Darkride’s continued taunts fell on deaf audio receptors, his words a mere nuisance now as Ricochet remained steadfast against an unseen enemy. Yes, the goading and insults from the shadows was torturous, but it was nothing the marksman could not handle. Fear, doubt, it was all a part of war and something that the black and gold mech had learned to live with a long time ago. Even here, in this death trap, the Autobot was afraid, but he was also angry. This ‘Con that now cowardly lurked in the darkness had tortured and killed countless Autobots along with various other lifeforms across the galaxy. The interrogator needed to finally face justice for his war crimes and that time would be now even if it meant the gunner’s spark would be extinguished as a result.

Finally, as if on cue, Darkride entered the light beam that shined from Ricochet’s cranium. The interrogator moved slowly towards him, all the while babbling on and on about suffering and pain and how therapeutic it could be. It was all nonsense, of course, but why not let the supernatural creature have his say. It meant nothing in the long run and simply gave the marksman time to plan his next move. The insinuation that his comrades would not be coming to save him because the gunner was unpopular did very little to shake his resolve to punish the filthy torturer once and for all. He had heard it all before and even experienced being left behind in some cases. Regardless, the black and gold mech was used to surviving on his own and he intended to do so again....somehow.

“I need no savior from you,” Ricochet started to say as Darkride suddenly rushed towards him with such speed that the expert marksman only had enough time to raise his makeshift dagger and take a single swipe at his attacker. Whether his blade had made contact or not was lost on the gunner as the interrogator’s clawed hands grasped both of the Autobot’s shoulders and slammed his whole body back up against a rocky wall, causing the knife to fly out of his actuators from the sheer force of the impact. Now weaponless, the black and gold mech became even more desperate as he struggled against the seemingly supernatural strength of his adversary.

“What the frag are you?” Ricochet growled as he attempted to push back against the immoveable force that was almost certainly relishing every moment that the Autobot remained helpless. It was then that the marksman’s optics fell onto the glimmering sight of Darkride’s shrapnel rifle hanging from his waist. “Wait, I know....” the now grinning gunner continued as he quickly reached down and snatched his attacker’s weapon from its holster, bringing the rifle up to bear. “....you’re slagged!!”

Aiming the end of the barrel directly at the interrogator’s chestplate, Ricochet opened fire at pointblank range, unleashing a battle cry that echoed all around the dueling rivals. Even an alleged paranormal entity like Darkride would find it impossible to dodge this attack. The only question now was whether or not the damage would be sufficient enough to end this fight in the marksman’s favor.

Oil Slick, at least, had got back to the Combaticon Commander with some operational data regarding what was happening on the surface. For whatever reason, the chemist seemed to be the only one with a vantage point that Onslaught would find useful in terms of providing him with additional tactical intelligence.

>>"Copy, Oil Slick. I'm sending reinforcements to your position now. Feed me anything you can regarding Autobot field rosters and apparent objectives."<<

It was a risky move, but the Autobots had been here for a considerable period already and none of them had breached the surface of the water. The Combaticon was quickly left to conclude, rightly or wrongly, that whatever they had come here for...it was not their makeshift base of operations.

>>"Agreed, Vortex. We'll take whatever advantage we need to take, be it in the air or wherever else we can find it. Our current advantage appears to be the reality that the Autobots are not interested in what I am most keen on protecting. Therefore, a strategic shift is in order. Swindle, Brawl--lock on to Oil Slick's position and provide additional cover. I'm en route."<<

Blast-Off, currently, was Onslaught's only unutilized resource. But he had not heard anything from Razorclaw that indicated that should change. His frustration at that reality, however, was steadily growing. Blast-Off had been separated from the unit for too long, in his estimation. If the wait continued much longer, he fully intended to give Swindle or Vortex the go-ahead with their earlier proposals to return their teammate to the fold. For the moment there were bigger priorities.

Transforming, Onslaught activated his thrusters and began the process of launching himself towards the surface and Oil Slick's position. A fellow Decepticon, if nothing else, was the Autobots' apparent target and Onslaught wanted to know why. More importantly, he wasn't going to let him go without a fight.

Brawl too had began to wonder why the Autobots were not advancing. Ideally his bombardment of the shoreline would have been the reason for this but even Brawl was doubtful that was the answer to the riddle. Even more curious was the fact that Vortex had taken to the air but was providing no tactical intelligence. Usually the Combaticon interrogator would have painted targets for Brawl and Onslaught to finish off by now. Even Ramjet and the triplechangers had gone quiet despite going up. Not that Brawl expected the triplechanger duo to follow protocol now after their earlier insubordination.

Obviously Onslaught was puzzled as well given the new orders from the Combaticon leader. The strategist did not abandon a tactically superior position lightly. That being said, Onslaught was the one to make the decisions, not Brawl. And that was just fine with the Combaticon heavy hitter. Onslaught probably had conjured somekind of a plan already anyhow.

>>"Sure thing boss."<< Brawl replied back to his commander and transformed into his robot mode. That being done, he activated the thrusters in his feet and headed towards Oil Slick's position with Swindle hopefully following closely behind.

"Right. That should be it." Scrapper stated as Hook finally sealed Scavenger's armor. "Bringing Scavenger online in 3 - 2 - 1 - activating..."

Scrapper's optics fixated on the monitor before him, this was a critical phase after all. There was no room for hurry when re-activating another mech's high neural functions. Luckily enough, Scavenger's higher brain functions returned to normal the way they were supposed to. Not that luck was to be thanked for here. It all came down to his and Hook's exceptional skill.

As he slowly revived Scavenger's consciousness back to normal, Scrapper called in the next patient of his and Hook's. "Mixmaster! You are next in line! We will start with minor modifications due to the current situation so that we can quickly deploy to the battlefield if necessary."

"Ignition of higher brain functions is a success. Welcome back Scavenger." Scrapper greeted his fellow Constructicon as the excavator stirred up on the operation table. "How do you feel old friend?"

(OOC-Temporary fill-in to keep things flowing.)

Scavenger's optics flickered and he looked around as various sensory data began streaming in the way it usually did. He pushed himself uneasily up on to his elbow joints and looked around.

"S-Scrapper? Hook?" Scavenger said, looking at the two senior Constructicons. "Uh...I f-feel.....huh.....I gotta say, I feel great. You guys are just...just...amazing technicians!"

He didn't know how to explain it, but it was like a whole new connection had been forged between he and his brothers. It was awesome. He only hoped he was worthy of all their hard work.
___

Mixmaster had wasted no time in leaving Bonecrusher to do whatever it was he was going to do once Scrapper had called for him. Battle or no battle, Mixmaster knew what Scrapper and Hook were ardently working on. To some degree, it was what they all were working on. Mixmaster's entire motivation to finish the construction of this base was built on the desire to see Devastator completed and how that would change their lives. Change! Fundamentally! It would be glorious. But it had to be completed if they were going to see any results.

"Reporting as ordered, chief! Gonna make some magic magic magic, eh!?"

He then looked over at Scavenger who was edging himself off of the operational slab. Mixmaster helped him the rest of the way, none too gently, before adjusting himself in to position.

"Ready ready ready!"

Skies over the Yellow Sea

Autobots, Autobots everywhere. And not an astrosecond to waste.

Yes, waste. That was precisely what Blitzwing intended to do. Maim them, kill them, burn them. As long as violence involved their destruction, there would be no problems, no complaints from his end.

Keeping pace with Ramjet and Astrotrain, Blitzwing lanced through the sky at a furious speed as if he were a blade determined to cleave his opponent in half with a single strike. The element of surprise was a tactic he favoured heavily in combat, and he wanted to get the drop on the Autobots as soon as possible. Quite literally, too.

The very thought of squashing a few Autobugs under his ponderous tracks prompted a cackle from Blitzwing. And so did the amount of these fools as they scurried across the shoreline, seeking refuge in the forested area that lay just beyond it like vile cyber-insects escaping the sudden appearance of light and retreating to the safety of darkness.

What an infestation. But what an opportunity to eliminate so much filth all at once.

>>“You know, I always thought the cyber-gnats from Vos were a pain in the aft.”<< Blitzwing had opened a channel to both Ramjet and Astrotrain. >>“Then I found Autobots. Frag me—now they're a nuisance. What say we play exterminators and wipe these pests out? How 'bout it?”<<

In true Blitzwing fashion, the Triple Changer surged ahead without waiting for a response from either of his two comrades and unleashed a barrage of machine gun fire into the forest, bullets streaking through leaves and branches alike, shredding the vegetation with the utmost ease.

Although concealed from sight, Blitzwing's tactical avionics registered the Autobots' energy signatures amongst the lush foliage. That, and his confidence told him, despite firing blind, that he'd hit something eventually.

Who he saw and who he didn't see, however, was of no concern. It had been too long since Blitzwing had mixed it up with the Autobots and, on this particular occasion, he planned to enjoy himself, to have a little fun before tacking on his serious expression and proceeding to the more brutal—but equally as delightful—aspect of battle: dealing out death.

Skies

Astrotrain wasn't sure what exactly was up with Ramjet. He seemed....distracted. The triple-changer supposed that was probably typical behavior, given the amount of times that he had crashed in to things. So long as he had been up in the air barking out orders, Astrotrain had been content to pretty much follow along. If he wasn't going to take that much of the lead then, eh, he had better things to do.

Like shoot Autobots.

>>"Those cyber-gnats were ridiculous! I spent most of an orn getting those things out of my gears once. Just glad it wasn't a sparkeater. I've heard stories. Bad stories."<<

There seemed to be some activity near a tree line on the shores. Astrotrain arced downward and began to fire, as Blitzwing was already doing. He didn't have a clear visual on any particular Autobots just yet, but once he and Blitzwing blew everything away, he was sure that situation would rectify itself.

>>"As for them Autobots...I wonder what they want. Maybe we want it."<<

Unless it was that blasted undersea base. Astrotrain wasn't going to risk life and limb for that thing. If the greenies and the gunnies wanted to build it so bad, they could bend over backwards to defend it, too.

Yellow Sea - Treeline On Shore

One last bang to his exposed rotor knocked the final piece of shrapnel from the sensitive air foil. He swore as he slapped a magnetic self sealing patch across the hole and allowed the anticeptic sting to subside. Vortex was no longer just irritated about the attack. When he had landed to head over to the sea break and rejoin his unit as per orders, he took note of the large wound. While not life threatening it was enough to snap something within every Combaticon, the desire to obliterate all Autobots.

Vortex drove his fist into a nearby birch, causing the opposite side to explode in a storm of splinters. He then leaped into the air and reverted to copter form. Tapping into the Combaticon Override targeting protocols, he linked himself with the Decepticon's combat computers. "Those Autobot scraps are going to pay for that!" He swore loud enough to pierce the comm links between he, Onslaught, Brawl and Swindle.

"Operation Obliterate those bastards for putting a hole in my Rotor... BEGINS NOW!" He took to a higher elevation and began stretching out his sensors. He immediately repinged Hardhead, the Autobot Tank that had initially wounded him. Within a flash he transmitted the coordinates to his fellow Combaticons.

He then spun around and began to paint other targets in the general combat zone. Vortex then reloaded his rocket launchers and began a spray of the region around the heaviest fighting, insuring to filter out Decepticon Friend or Foe registry signals. The Combaticons would have access to their impact points for further suppression fire.

On Shore

The reaction he got out of Saferoute was exactly what he had been hoping for. Anger clouded the processor. Anger was such a potent weapon. Hex let loose a hearty laugh as he studied the femme’s face. She had set her optics on his face...so menacing. So pathetic how these Cybertronians held other species in such high regards…well not all Cybertronians…not the clan known as Decepticons. The clan known as Autobots was much more nauseating.

“I feel so very sorry for you. Witnessing the complete genocide of not only your species, but the whole of the universe…so, so sad.”

Hex let out another laugh, but broke his attention away from Saferoute when he heard the sound of an aircraft…possibly a helicopter. It only took a moment but in that brief amount of time the femme had moved on the young mech, her fists almost a blur. As he turned to face her again Hex took a right hook to the jaw. He never went down. Instead his head jerked to the right...a spray of energon that covering the ground. Slowly Hex turned back and set his optics on his opponent.

“Oh, that was good.” He paused a moment and took a quick lick of the bright fluid that was dripping from his lip and down his chin. “That was very good.”

A broad toothy smile formed on the herald’s face before he let out a feral scream and lunged toward the femme’s upper body. If he was able to grab a hold of her armor he’d do his best to tear out her throat with his bare teeth.

On Shore – Abandoned Storage Cave

Darkride could feel a small trickle of energon drip from the small gash on his abdomon. A lucky strike. When Ricochet had taken the swipe with his dagger he unknowingly caught the interrogator in the left abdomen. Thankfully the wound was not deep enough to cause any sort of vial damage, and in all actuality, it felt so very, very good.

The dark purple Decepticon sent a deranged grin in Ricochet’s direction. Darkride was already forming an answer to the marksman’s query when he was taken by surprise…without even realizing it, the black and gold ‘Bot had grabbed his shrapnel rifle from his waist and quickly brought it to bear and opened fire. With an angry growl, Darkride quickly ducked to the right catching several razor sharp pieces of artillery in the upper shoulder…a few had even been embedded in the interrogator’s neck.

Darkride came to rest in a crouch, one hand placed on the ground while the other groped the at his wounds. The assessment of the damage that had been gathered by his own systems appeared on his HUD and the news was good…nothing serious. His own repair systems would have little trouble sealing off severed lines.

“You really do know how to cause pain. Congratulations, Ricochet, you have drawn blood…and from me. You should be quite proud.”

He didn’t give any time for the marksman to even react as the former ‘Con lunged forward…taking a hold of the barrel of the rifle with his right hand, Darkride slammed his balled left fist into the side of Ricochet’s head.

The interrogator came to rest and stood over the now disarmed and disorientated Autobot with a hellish smile plastered on his face. He brought his hand up and swiped it across the still bleeding wound. With his optics still boring into the Autobot, Darkride took a quick taste.

“This is good, but I would rather have a taste of yours. Do you mind?”

Darkride hoisted his rifle from the barrel and raised the weapon high above Ricochet. One hand gripping the business end and the other the stock, the interrogator flashed his prey an evil grin.

“What was it you said to me earlier…oh yes…you’re slagged!”

With a roar Darkride brought down the rifle…

Weapon: Energo-Sword
On Shore – Tree Line

Kup grimaced as he received the signals back from the various Autobots. None of it was good news. Ricochet was pinned down, Saferoute was continuing to disobey orders and apparently Hot Rod, Hardhead and Hex had betrayed them all. That last bit of information was confirmed by Hardhead himself, along with confirmation that Warpath was down as his decapitated head landed at his feet.

The old warhorse bent down and scooped up the head. “Doc,” he yelled back at First Aid before chucking the head back towards him. Kup was in full sergeant mode. He wasn’t about to show his concern, shock or anger now. This wasn’t the first time he had been in a situation this bade, or even had a head roll up to his feet. Giving in to those emotions would only make the situation worse.

The Autobot warrior opened up a communication channel to his team. >>”Alright Autobots, change of plans. We are going to have to go in and get our people. Ricochet is cornered, Warpath is down and Saferoute is refusing the call to retreat so we are going to go get them. As of now I am listing Hardhead, Hex and Hot Rod as hostiles. Under my authority you have permission to open fire on them. You already saw what they did to Warpath so don’t hold back.”<<

>>”Hot Spot, Ironhide, we are going to move out from the treeline and get our people back. Hot Spot, I want you to break off after our initial volley and find Ricochet. His signal was garbled so he’s probably inside, maybe a cave or something. I’m sending you the coordinates. Ironhide, I want you to find Saferoute and get her back to the treeline. I don’t care if you have to carry her, just get it done.”<< As if to emphasize the urgency of their mission a series of machine gun bullets tore through the trees and rockets exploded around them. The element of surprise was gone.

>>”Blades, you get in the air, try and disrupt the Con fliers if you can. You’re gonna be outnumbered, but you should be used to that. Just make sure they don’t get free attack runs on us or this will be over real quick. Groove, Streetwise, give us some covering fire and be prepared to come in and assist us if necessary. First Aid, be ready for casualties. Now let’s move Autobots!”<< He then sent a quick message up to Ultra Magnus updating him on the situation.

Kup led the charge, jogging out from his cover, musket cradled in his arms. He knew his gun wasn’t the fastest firing or most powerful, but his target was big enough that he wasn’t liable to miss much. He charged at Hardhead, firing burst after burst from his gun. He could just make out Warpath’s body lying nearby, so he knew he’d have to drive off or take down the other Autobot before he could drag his wounded comrade back to the forest. He had made sure to save the most difficult task for himself.

*

Ironhide could barely hide the look of shock on his face as Hardhead flung Warpath’s severed head at them. This mission had gotten a lot uglier then he had ever imagined and it had done it slagging fast. He tensed up further when he got the orders from Kup. He didn’t like the idea of shooting at fellow Bots, even after all that had happened. Of course on the other hand he hated seeing fellow Bots getting hurt or even killed just as badly. He was going to have to do his best to walk the line between the two.

Once Kup gave the order Ironhide burst out from behind his cover. He made a beeline for where Hex and Saferoute were locked in combat. The two where tangled up pretty good. He didn’t want to risk a shot from far range. Instead he transformed to his alternate mode, the truck engine roaring as he raced towards the two combatants, zig zagging to avoid some incoming fire from the skies.

Once he was close enough he turned sharply, skidding and transforming at the same time. He rolled up on one knee in his robot mode, his hands switched out for his chemical emitters. He aimed his arms at Hex and fired a spray of liquid nitrogen at him. Hopefully it would be enough to stop him without hurting him too bad. Then he could drag Saferoute out of the fight, whether she liked it or not.

*

Hot Spot wasn’t quite as good at holding his composure as Kup or Ironhide was. A look of shock passed over his face as he saw the decapitated head of Warpath land at Kup’s feet. He’d seen some bad things during the war, but seeing a head hurled by another Autobot like that was going to be one that stuck with him for awhile. Obviously something terrible had happened here. He just hoped that it could be stopped and Hardhead could be brought back to the good Autobot he was.

The Protectobot leader shifted his expression to grim determination as he got the orders from Kup. Rescuing fellow Autobots was something his team specialized in, hopefully that would keep them all focused. Having to fight fellow Autobots was going to be confusing at best. Rescuing wounded Autobots though was something the Protectobots had practiced and performed many times. They could almost do it without thinking and in a situation like this it was going to be a great asset.

Once Kup gave the order Hot Spot lumbered out of the tree line and transformed into his alternate mode. He raced towards Hardhead, the only clear target he had at the moment. The cave where Ricochet was was a short distance away so he didn’t have a clear target at the moment. Hardhead was the only target he had at the moment, and he had to think of him as just a target, so he opened fire with his twin fireball cannons at him. He got a few shots off before he veered off, heading towards the cave where Ricochet was locked in battle with a Con.

*

Bottom of the Yellow Sea - Decepticon base

Hook just shook his head in annoyance at Scavenger. Hopefully he wouldn’t be spouting such idiotic nonsense after he had the procedure performed on himself. “You’re wasting our time stating the obvious Scavenger! Of course I’m an amazing technician; I’ve told you that on numerous occasions!” He helped the other Constructicon off the work table as Mixmaster quickly took his place.

The chemist was at least far more intelligent then Scavenger, but he made up for it with his crazy over enthusiasm. He was already jabbering away as he began connecting him to the various computer systems that helped monitor the process. “If you keep talking like that Mixmaster I’ll make sure to sever your vocalizer while I’m working on you!” The already short tempered Hook was getting even more testy then usual because of the nearby battle and limited time he was under. He knew this procedure would go quicker with the experience of the first but he didn’t like being on the clock like this.

*

Bottom of the Yellow Sea

Swindle poked his head out from behind his cover. It seemed like the battle had shifted now to whatever Autobots were on the surface. That was fine with him. He was more then happy to let the triplechanger take the brunt of the fight if that’s how it was going to go. If he couldn’t negotiate on their behalf maybe he could sell some replacement parts to them for repairs or, better yet, sell what was left of them as replacement parts! It was a win-win!

Unfortunately, as it so often seemed to go his dreams of financial gain from the safety of the rear lines were crushed as Onslaught ordered him forward. Not only that but he would be going with Brawl to meet the creepy chemist. At least they were just providing covering fire, that was better then charging into battle. Maybe he could still score some salvage out of this. He kicked off from the sea floor and made his way up towards Oil Slick.

*

Shoreline

Oil Slick had hoped to simply fall back and let the Combaticons and other heavier combatants engage the Autobots. While he was quite capable of defeating most Autobots they have tank types were particularly troublesome for him. The heavy armor was difficult to penetrate with his chemicals or flail and their heavy guns could do severe damage to him at range before he could hope to harm them. Still, he was not in a position to disobey orders.

The chemist stopped his descent through the water and began rising back up. His feet touched the shallow bottom as he began to climb back up the beach. The Decepticon slowly lifted his head out of the water, scanning the beach in front of him. The scene was chaotic as the triplechangers rained fire at the nearby forest and newly arrived Autobots came charging out of it. They appeared to be firing on…other Autobots? Was this just a case of confused fire or something else? He couldn’t say for sure.

>>”Onslaught, I can see a new group of Autobots emerging from the forest. I can’t tell how many. The triplechangers are attacking them from the air. The Autobots appear to be attacking each other. I do not know why.”<<

On Shore - Abandoned Storage Cave

Ricochet couldn’t help but let a smirk escape from his visage as Darkride failed to avoid the shots fired from his own shrapnel rifle. The interrogator tried to dodge the attack, but was caught in both the shoulder and his neck by bits of razor sharp metal. While it forced the torturer to back off the Autobot, the attack was not nearly enough to bring the seemingly supernatural ‘Con down for the count. Still, it was better than nothing at all.

If he bleeds, then I can kill him, the expert marksman thought as Darkride assessed the damage done to him. The cycle-former’s subsequent congratulations on inflicting pain left no sense of pride with the gunner. Justice was all he cared about, not the ability to gloat about his accomplishments later. Besides, no one liked him well enough to listen. “I’m not proud of anything you sick twisted....”

Ricochet’s retort was sharply cut off as Darkride lunged at him suddenly, retaking his stolen shrapnel rifle while at the same time delivering a powerful left hook to the side of the black and gold mech’s cranium. The gunner grabbed the side of his head as the pain radiated throughout his processor. It was a much stronger blow than he would expect from such a small ‘Con, but then again this being was clearly something much more now than a simple interrogator with a penchant for spilled energon.

The disoriented gunner did not hear Darkride’s follow up comments nor did he see the thin mech standing over him about to deliver another devastating hit, this time with the shrapnel rifle, itself. However, Ricochet did hear a roar, almost like an animal, before feeling the crushing blow of the weapon as it made contact with the very center of his faceplate. More pain followed by numbness overtook his cranial unit as his HUD tried to display the extent of the damage. All the gunner saw was broken symbols within his distorted vision as he tried in vain to regain his composure before his attacker finished him off for good.

Ricochet somehow managed to turn over onto his stomach and began to crawl away as energon poured out of his smashed faceplate, dripping onto the rocky ground beneath him. So, this was how it would end for the disliked Autobot? At least he would be remembered for his ability as a marksman if not for his rather hated disposition.

On Shore

Hardhead smiled and let out another boisterous laugh as both Kup and Hot Spot raced out of the tree line, firing their weapons at him. For a moment, the green herald thought he would have a real challenge with a pair of Autobots to do simultaneous battle with. However, that was not to be as the blue fire truck quickly veered away towards the direction where Darkride had chased after Ricochet. It was no matter. The old warhorse would do just fine as a worthy enough adversary.

A few of Kup’s shots struck Hardhead’s chestplate, the acid causing minimal damage to the super-powered mech’s thick armor. The lumbering former Autobot was able to dive away to avoid the rest of the old timer’s volley, hitting the ground as the Protectobot Commander’s fire balls also streaked by overhead. “Impressive...but not impressive enough for me!” The war veteran bellowed his taunt as he pushed himself up to a kneeling position, bringing his two shatterblasters up to bear. With explosions from Vortex's rockets going off all around him, a focused Hardhead unleashed a barrage of diamond-hard crystal shards directly at the approaching Kup, hoping to take the old timer down and thus add to his growing collection of severed craniums.

Having completed his strafing run, Blitzwing pulled up sharply and darted straight back into the vast blue expanse that was the sky, its protection paramount as no weapons wielded by the Autobots could reach him and cause damage from his position up there. Well, perhaps the Autobots boasting flight had the potential to do Blitzwing harm, but he had not seen any evidence of their kind yet.

No Aerialbots were present as far as Blitzwing was aware so that had to be an auspicious sign, a good start. He had less use for them than he did for Swindle's bogus clearance sales (Yes, that's right! Fifty percent off your next plasma cannon when you purchase a set of fusion bombs and a laser pistol! You can't beat that, femmes and gentlemechs! You can't beat crazy!).

Soaring through the air as his mood soared through the currents of joy, Blitzwing said, >>“I've heard a couple of stories about those sparkeaters.”<< He chuckled. >>“None good, if you're after a happy ending, but damn hilarious in that you-poor-sucker sort of way.”<<

And, yes, he genuinely did find their suffering to be amusing—very. End of discussion.

>>“Yeah, I have to wonder what those 'Bots want. You don't think they know about our undersea base, do you, 'Train?”<<

Groove hit the deck as soon as he heard the machine gun fire coming from above, followed by several bombs from around the area. If the Decepticons didn't know their exact position, then they at least had a general idea and weren't going to let such a thing as aiming and accuracy get in the way of destroying them.

Looks like there's no talking out of this mess., he thought as he got up and took cover behind a tree.

Receiving his orders from Kup, Groove unholstered his photon pistol and ran to the opposite end of the treeline away from Streetwise. While keeping behind the tree he scanned the area with his optics. From the looks of it there were very few if any combatants on the ground, though some of the missile fire was coming from the sea. Looking to the skies he saw a couple of triple changers and a seeker flying overhead, and one helicopter that he recognized.

Vortex! He must be giving our position to the other Combaticons below. Maybe if I can blind him or distract him, they'd have less of a chance to target us. I might not actually hit him from here, but maybe I can at least get his attention.

Groove took careful aim at the Combaticon helicopter above, and after a quick personal apology to Primus, fired several shots at Vortex.

On Shore

Saferoute only took a small bit of satisfaction when she finally managed to draw fuel from Hex. But she wouldn't be fully satisfied until the possessed scout was down for good and unable to hurt anyone or anything else.

He bleeds, good. If he bleeds then he's not completely invulnerable, and that means I can beat him..... Somehow.

Saferoute got back into a defensive stance as Hex continued to taunt her as he inspected the minor damage she had managed to inflict on him. Then after grinning at her again, he let out a terrifiying scream, one that sounded like it came from a wild animal more than any mechanical being. Though startled, she dug in and held her ground as he lunged at her with a speed she never could have avoided anyway. Bearing down she was pushed back slightly as she managed to grab him by the upper arms once he got close enough, though it took all of her strength to hold him back. It was only now becoming apparent to her just what kind of monster she was dealing with, as he seemed to snap his jaws toward her neck.

"Wh-what....", she just managed to grunt as she struggled to hold Hex back, "What are you!?"

As she began to feel the young mech pushing closer to her, she just noticed Ironhide in her peripheral vision. She couldn't say or do anything to acknowledge him though, as she had to put every ounce of strength within her to keep Hex from getting too close. For the first time in their encounter, as she looked into Hex's possessed optics, Saferoute was truly afraid.

Whatever you're doing Ironhide, please do it quick! I can't hold him much longer!

The shout from Kup caught First Aid slightly off guard, but it was the sudden appearance of Warpath’s decapitated head that caused the Protectobot doctor to let out a startled yelp. He recovered quickly enough to move in the direction of the head and deftly caught it. He then turned and made for a safer area so he could take a moment to examine the cranial unit. He needed to determine whether or not the ‘Bot it belonged to could be saved. To his relief he surmised that Warpath would be fine so long as his body could be recovered before it was destroyed.

First Aid was just about done with his examination when an incoming volley of machine gun fire and explosions rocked the area just outside the tree line. Another set of explosions and First Aid knew whoever was firing on them was getting closer to their location. They would need to move, and quickly.

The doctor took a peek around his cover when he received his orders from Kup. Stay put and wait for anyone who might be hurt. No problem. Unfortunately there was already a casualty and he needed help now.

>>”Kup! You’ve got to recover Warpath’s body if I’m going to save him!”<<

Blades didn’t have to be told twice to take off and engage…in fact he’d been itching to get in to it with one or all of the ‘Con fliers in the area. With a broad grin on his face the Protectobot leapt into the air and once he was clear of the trees he transformed to his helicopter mode. Moments later Blades was airborne and in search of his first target.

Lucky for him there were two that he honed in on. Astrotrain and Blitzwing...perfect! He carefully took steady aim and let loose two of his armor piercing smart rockets…one each per ‘Con.

Hex let out an annoyed growl when his full on advantage was halted by Saferoute who had easily grabbed hold of the scout’s upper arms and shoved back in order to keep him at bay. However, the femme seemed to be having a difficult time keeping Hex far enough away. The young mech pushed further trying hard to get to the Autobot’s neck.

“What am I? I’m your executioner!”

Hex reared back slightly and took one final lunge toward his intended target only to feel his body freeze. Confused as to what could possibly have stopped him, Hex frantically looked around. From his position on the ground he saw that from his waist down he was encased in a thick coating of liquid nitrogen immobilizing his lower torso and legs.

Hex searched the area and noticed Ironhide off some distance with his weapons trained on his location. With a growl he turned his attention back to Saferoute and let out another savage scream as he dug his digits into the dirt and began to drag himself closer to the femme.

On Shore - Abandoned Storage Cave

“Sick twisted what?! I do not believe I caught every…Word! You! Said!”

Darkride’s last three words were emphasized with three corresponding brutal blows of the butt of his weapon. The interrogator slowed his beating down slightly as Ricochet turned around and tried to crawl away form not only the enraged herald, but also his inevitable death.

The lithe purple mech let the marksman move as far as he could while keeping up with him, but at a distance. The trail of energon Ricochet was leaving behind brought Darkride only a small sense of satisfaction…no he wanted more.

“You bleed well, Ricochet. In fact it is rather beautiful. I believe I will have to commit this picture to memory so that I may play it back…over, and over, and over.”

He stopped beside the broken mech and squatted down so that he was hovering over the black and gold ‘Bot’s audio.

“I can end this, but I do not think I have heard you scream yet. What say you scream for me, yes?”

With his right hand Darkride gently lifted Ricochet’s chin so that he could look deep into the mech’s cracked visor. He would savor this moment for however long it lasted.

On Shore

Just beyond the tree line where the Autobots had taken refuge and atop a small rocky out cropping a brilliant white light materialized but vanished just as swiftly as it had appeared leaving behind two mechs. One, emblazoned with red and orange flames across his chest the other smaller with a yellow motif.

Rodimus Prime stood tall and scanned the shoreline taking note of where every Autobot, and now every Decepticon was located. Beside him stood Drag Stripe, his final herald. The Prime cast a gaze on his newest acquisition and placed a hand gently on his shoulder.

“The time grows near, Drag Strip, but now we must fall back. My Master decrees it.”

Rodimus gave a nod indicating that he would call his followers to them. Patience.

To me my heralds!
____

The voice that flooded his head had Hex stopping his advance and instead turned to his lower body and began to claw at the frozen substance that was trapping his legs. The fury with which he worked had the restrictive substance off in a matter of minutes.

Once he was free from Hex got to his feet…though slightly shaky…and made his way toward his master, but not before sending a toothy grin in Saferoute’s direction.

Abandoned Storage Cave

Just as it did his young brother, his Master’s voice filled his mind with the order to fall back to the Prime’s position. It was a shame Darkride wouldn’t be able to kill Ricochet, but his Master was waiting. With his hand still perched delicately under the marksman’s chin the interrogator leaned down further so that he was only inches from the Autobot’s mangled faceplate.

“Your stay of execution has been granted Ricochet. You have my Master to thank for that.”

His words were low but retained a very silky tone. He then flashed the black and gold mech a sweet smile before he released his prey’s chin. Darkride place his hand on the mech’s head and gave it a gentle pat. The former Decepticon stood back up and placed his right foot against Ricochet’s back and grabbed hold of his shoulder mounted cannon and tore it from the mech’s body.

Darkride moved further into the cave and hoisted the cannon up. He took on a stabilizing stance so as to minimize himself against any major kickback. A quick glance in the downed Autobot’s location Darkride fired off one of the shells. The ordnance rocketed straight for the boulder that had been blocking the cave’s entrance and upon impact cleared a path through the obstruction.

With a proper means of escape the herald regarded the defeated ‘Bot and raced out of the cave. Darkride nearly trampled over Hot Spot who had already been advancing on the location. The interrogator let loose a primal wail before bolting past the Protectobot Commander and on toward his Master.

Weapon: Automatic Acid-Pellet Gun
On Shore - Treeline

The dimly light shade of the thick under growth of the shore line birch grove was instantly bathed in a seething blinding light. Arches of lightning slammed into the trunk of a tree already damaged by weapons fire from both Autobot and airborne Decepticons guns. The birch ignited into flames as the light began to fade and the rend of subspace collapsed upon itself revealing four determined shadows.

As the flash faded, the four figures were forced to duck down as the roar of jet engines tore through the skies above. Soon a stream of spat fire erupted from the source. "Blitzwing." The barely restrained voice of antisipation spoke out as the Aerialbot pulled himself out from the brush.

Ultra Magnus pulled his rifle up from subspace and checked its power levels for the final time before turning to address his team. "Tonton, locate Rodimus. Soon as you find him transmit his coordinates... Do not engage if you can avoid it. Even before his upgrade Hot Rod was a formidable mechanism." The small jungle combat specialist nodded and transformed into his cybertronian CypherPrimate and disappeared into the canopy.

Bidder tore into the ground as was his customary method of intimidation, and sent shockwaves through the region as a minor earth quake. He then took hold of a pair of subspace rocket launchers and pulled them up as if rending them from the living rock. "What about me hoss. Got me some itchin triggers here that old Dora and Lorna need a scratchin."

"Colorful, why don't you tell all of the Decepticons we're here ready to kick their tail." Slingshot loaded an active clip into his neutronium rifle. "Think ya missed a sensor."

"Stow it." Magnus snapped before turning his attention to the large barrel shaped defender. "Locate First Aid."

The green mech's excitement subsided visibly. "What? I gotta Protosit?... Bah fine, but I better get in on the next one." The defensive specialist began a relatively quick sprint towards the signal of the Protectobot Medic.

Ultra Magnus now spared his attention to the waiting Aerialbot. From the backdrop he could spy continuous weapons fire raining down upon various positions in the combat zone. It would not be long before the humans spotted what was going on here, and when that happened, all hell would break loose. "Slingshot, establish air superiority and give what support you can to Blades."

"Support Blades? Why would I want to support that bag of energon exhaust?"

"Because I am ordering you to. I don't care about your petty squabble right now Slingshot. Just plow the road so we can work." Magnus's voice was stern yet not overly bearing. The Aerialbot simply signed and bowed his head before lifting it up into a warrior's smirk of satisfaction. With a leap into the air, Magnus watched the sharpshooter pull his arms to his sides and morph into a terrain fighter alternative form.

Magnus immediately stepped forward from the underbrush. His sensors splayed wide to take in all of the movements of the actors on the board. Noting that Warpath's signal was no longer moving, though Hardhead was present perhaps giving him some covering fire. But what did not make sense to his sensors was when Kup's signal and Hot Spot's began a violent attack run on the position that was Hardhead.

So Kup's report was correct, Autobots were attacking their comrades in arms. This was almost unheard of, though not unknown. Historically there were traitors that had come and gone on both sides of this protracted war. But the likes of Hardhead going off the deep end as Kup described, that was not so common.

Magnus agreed this had to be brought to a close immediately. Pushing a few branches clear of his optics, he took note of the sprawled battlefiend. And at the center of the chaos was the deformed image of Hot Rod who appeared to be hyped up on Energon X. The Autobot Commander stepped into the clearing, his weapon adjacent with the ground, though his missiles at the ready. "RODIMUS!" He called out, exposed to the weapons of both sides though knowing his armor was enough to protect him until he was able to retaliate. He took note of a swirling dark energy that spiralled unseen, it was just that sort of feeling he could not articulate. His optics locked with the twisted prime and his new wing mech. No, this was something entirely beyond the pale.

Skies Above

Slingshot spun into the air with a joyful glee. Nothing like being free to test the winds and spread his wings. Well maybe scraping a few Decepticon fliers was better, but not by much. Immediately he switched his weapons over to active and his sensors were patched into the Autobot Combat network. Within astro seconds he was able to actively ping three Decepticons.

Astrotrain and Blitzwing were the two closest targets with Vortex further down the shoreline evading weapons fire from the ground. Let that braggart Blades deal with the lone Combaticon, Slingshot pivoted his angle and activated his afterburners launching himself towards the two triple changers.

Loading his mortar launchers with proximity shells, Slingshot painted the two targets. He closed the distance rapidly. "Hello Decepticreeps. You two need to be taught a lesson about a fair tactical advantage." With that he unleashed a quartet of proximity mortars towards the triple changers, a pair each. They would detonate at a set distance, spraying shrapnel and chemical conflagrations.

Once Onslaught's internal targeting sequencers had begin receiving information from Vortex regarding Autobot positions, such as that of Hardehead, the Combaticon Commander transformed once more and rolled the rest of the way on to shore before letting loose with an initial volley of rockets. They shrieked in to the sky, leaving trails of gray fumes in their wake as more field intel fed itself to him.

It was Oil Slick's report in particular that had caught his interest and made him all the more eager to get to his position so that he could see what he was seeing. Slamming down on his accelerators, the large missile truck lumbered forward through the shallows until he could satisfactorily close the distance between himself and Oil Slick, who his scanners indicated was not far away.

One part of Oil Slick's report had caught him by such surprise that he almost made the Decepticon chemist repeat what he had said. He didn't, though, as the initial transmission had come through quite clear--even if he couldn't make strategic sense of it at the moment.

Autobots attacking...Autobots? What in the name of Primus? he thought as he rolled forward. Why were Autobots attacking other Autobots? The reported accounts of that happening were so infrequent that Onslaught could count the number of times he had seen such a report on one actuator. Had internal strife spread to their ranks too? It was almost too good to be true.

Whatever had caused the split, Onslaught would be damned if he was not going to take advantage of it, just as the Autobots would inevitably try with the Decepticons own unstable leadership situation.

Transforming again, Onslaught trudged the rest of the way through the shallows to Oil Slick's position, coming up alongside the Decepticon as he surveyed the battlefield. As he looked up, he saw that Decepticon signatures were not the only things filling the skies.

Unacceptable.

"Brawl, one volley into the air then advance on Autobot ground positions. The skies are ours," Onslaught ordered, matter-of-factly, as his own mortar cannons adjusted their positioning. His optics flickered as a red and white Autobot streaked by. Protectobots and Aerialbots, from the looks of it. No matter. Until he had a better understanding of why the Autobots were attacking one another, they were all fair game.

Dropping to one knee for better stabilization, Onslaught let off a pair of thunderous rounds from the mortar cannons near his shoulder units.

Scavenger chuckled nervously at Hook's agitated response. It was better than flat out derision. But he took the hint clearly and did not want to get in he or Scrapper's way any more than he had to.

"Right. Very true. Um, well, I'm gonna go see where else I can lend a hand in getting this place up to snuff, alright guys?"

Scavenger figured the other two would be busy enough with Devastator. The less they had to focus on their new base of operations, the better off they all would be. Eventually.

Mixmaster looked over at Hook with a knocking smirk on his face before resting his head back fully in to the cranial covering that was part of the chemical engineer's physical design and let out a relaxed sigh.

"Got it, got it, got it," Mixmaster said excitedly, before visually beginning to calm himself down and offlining his optics and allowing himself to go into blissful semi-stasis while the other two did their work.

Drag Strip appeared alongside Rodimus, having been teleported from the remains of the sunken Ultrax to just beyond the shoreline of South Korea. From atop the rocky outcropping, the former Stunticon witnessed the battle raging below between the Autobots, Decepticons and the other heralds. Of course, the pathetic Cybertronians did not know or understand the super-powered mechs they were now facing. To them Hardhead, Darkride and Hex were simply traitors to the causes that they once represented. Even Rodimus would be branded as such, and Motormaster would eventually come looking for his wayward Stunticon. None of that mattered now as the filthy Cybertronian scourge would soon comprehend their ultimate fate, but whether or not they would accept it was another matter entirely.

Feeling the gentle touch of his new master, Drag Strip looked up at Rodimus and nodded. “Understood, my lord.” Even though he was already beside the flame-covered mech, the yellow herald heard the same voice fill his cranial unit as the others. A broad smile creased his visage as Drag watched his new comrades respond to their master’s call and begin moving towards them. It was then that Ultra Magnus could be seen and heard calling out Rodimus Prime’s name from the beach below. “Oh look, master, the City Commander, himself, has arrived and wants to have a word with you. He doesn’t look too happy, either. I think you may have ticked him off. Heh heh.”
_________

When the voice of Rodimus Prime filled his processor, Hardhead immediately ceased firing on the advancing Kup, his shatterblasters growing silent as more explosions erupted all around him, this time from Onslaught, who had just emerged from the sea, itself. As much as the green herald would have liked to engage both warriors in combat simultaneously, the call of his master was one that he could not simply ignore. Thus, the war veteran holstered his weapons and gave his opponents a half hearted salute.

“Another time, perhaps,” Hardhead stated as he took off running towards the rocky outcropping that overlooked the battlefield. As he reached the tree line, the green soldier transformed into his armored vehicle mode and barreled through the foliage until he had emerged on the opposite side. Any Autobots still hiding within the thicket that were dumb enough to get in his way would have been easily run over or knocked aside like a simple drone.

Reaching the rocky outcropping, Hardhead returned to robot mode and easily climbed up on top where Rodimus and Drag Strip were waiting. “I am here as you command, my master,” the green herald stated before giving the Prime a curt bow and then regarding the former Stunticon with a nod. “Welcome aboard.”

On Shore - Abandoned Storage Cave

The brutal beating Ricochet had endured left his faceplate and upper torso severely damaged. He could barely see through his cracked visor as more energon began to flow from his smashed faceplate, leaving a gory trail on the rocky ground beneath him. Darkride seemed to revel in the carnage, but it was just not enough. The supernatural interrogator wanted to hear the gunner scream, as well, whispering that desire into the Autobot’s audio receptor before lifting the defeated mech’s chin off of the cave floor and staring directly into his impaired optics.

“Sorry....to....disappoint you,” Ricochet hissed, his voice garbled as energon welled up in his throat. “I scream.... for no one!” The black and gold mech was defiant to the very end, but that end never materialized. Instead, Darkride informed him that a stay of execution had been granted before patting the gunner on top of the cranium and ripping his shoulder-mounted cannon off of the marksman’s beaten body. Sparks flew from the Autobot’s shoulder as the torturer used the cannon to blast his way out of the cave, leaving his prey behind in a barely functional state.

Ricochet slowly rolled over onto his back, coughing up energon as he did so. Darkride was now gone as light from the outside world shined into the cavern, illuminating the grisly scene. At least now whomever came to rescue the maligned gunner would have no problem getting to him, if anyone truly cared enough to save his spark, of course. Thankfully, stasis had not yet overtaken the black and gold mech, but he also had no idea how much longer he had since his malfunctioning HUD was of no use to him. All Ricochet could do was wait to either be saved or be left to die in this death trap of his own making.

>>"The bowl head looks none the worse to wear boss! Swindle can make a damage assessment! Me? I am gonna bring the pain to the Autobots!"<< Brawl announced over the Combaticon tactical comm-channel after receiving Onslaught's newest set of orders for he had already moved on. The Combaticon bruiser had reached the Decepticon chemist Onslaught had commanded him and Swindle to secure somewhat earlier and had come into conclusion that while damaged, Oil Slick was still fit enough to fight.

Well, at least that was Brawl's opinion on the matter. Hole or three through his armor had the tendency just to slow him down - but to stop him? That required far more effort. All Combaticons could handle pain and that was what Brawl was used to. If Oil Slick was going to let a wound to stop him - well, he wasn't going to babysit some crybaby when there was a battle to be fought. Of course, so far Oil Slick had seemed to be coping with his injury just fine.

Nevertheless, when Onslaught reached Oil Slick and Swindle, Brawl had already advanced out of the sea and was firing blast after blast of electrons towards Blades' position in the sky with his electron gun. "Haha! Time to die Autobozo! You wanna brawl with Brawl?! C'mon! Reaper's is coming for you!"

Knowing full well that Vortex was already in the air and likely waiting for his chance to humiliate Blades, Brawl continued to pay heed to Onslaught's instructions for now. As the ground began getting more solid under his feet, Brawl transformed into his tank mode which allowed him to access his all weapon systems and began shuffling through the targeting data Vortex was providing to him and the other Combaticons. Two forms in particular captured his attention - Hardhead and Kup. The veteran warrior was already retreating from the battlefield for some reason and while blasting someone in the back was not beyond Brawl, he really didn't feel bothering with it. Now Kup on the other hand had been left standing in the open due to Hardhead's hasty retreat - and well, Brawl wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

"Time to go old timer! To the scrapyard you belong!" Brawl boomed as he fired an explosive shell at Kup's position.

Kup transformed as Hardhead returned fire at him. He had hoped that his shots would at least distract him a bit but that didn’t seem to be the case. The old warrior swerved and braked to help avoid the incoming fire. He still took a couple of close calls, adding a few more dents, tears and scratches to his armor but he was made of pretty stern stuff himself. As the Autobot closed in he transformed back to his robot mode, ready to go hand to hand with Hardhead if necessary.

The old timer was surprised to see the other Autobot turn tail and run off towards Hot Rod who had seemingly appeared out of nowhere. Kup briefly considered firing on him but the seeing Warpath’s fallen form and receiving the signal from First Aid kept him focused on recovering the wounded. He grabbed the tankformer and heaved him over one shoulder with a grunt. Next time he was going to let someone else recover the heaviest of the wounded.

Kup began jogging back towards the tree line, his already slow gait reduced further by the weight and awkwardness of Warpath’s body. An explosion tore into the ground directly behind them. The heat of the blast scorched Kup’s back and sent both of them hurtling forward, slamming into the ground. The old warhorse pulled himself up to his knees with a grunt, hefting his musket once again. “I’m getting to old for this slag,” he muttered to himself as he returned fire on Brawl.

>>”Autobots, I’ve got a wounded Warpath and I’m heading to the forest but I’ve got Decepticon problems coming from the water. Could use some covering fire to help me make it the rest of the way.”<<

*

Hot Spot nearly plowed through a smaller Decepticon that emerged from the explosion at the mouth of the cave. He thought he heard a snarl as the Con deftly dodged around him, darting off towards the beach. The Protectobot continued forward though, knowing that saving a downed comrade was more important then shooting down a random Decepticon.

The Protectobot leader transformed and jogged into the cave. It didn’t take long to find Ricochet as the sparks and crackles from his damaged form quickly gave away his position. Hot Spot frowned as he saw the damage, but quickly covered it with a confident expression. The other Autobot was in bad shape, but he had seen First Aid patch up worse.

“Alright Ricochet, its Hot Spot. I’m here to get you out of here.” He carefully scooped up the wounded Autobot in his arms. “The fighting is still going on so it might be a bumpy trip, but I’ll get you out of here. First Aid will have you patched up in no time.” He hoped his tone was reassuring as he carefully walked out of the cave and began the long jog back to the line of trees.

*

Ironhide saw that his liquid nitrogen did the trick once again as Hex froze up, putting a halt to the fight. The warrior didn’t want to wait around to see if he would break out. He grabbed a hold of Saferoute’s hand and began pulling her away. “C’mon, its time to get the slag out of here!” He sincerely hoped that she would just come along as he was in no mood to carry her.

The Autobot turned to see Kup hurtled through the air by an explosion. He quickly glanced towards the sea to see Brawl emerging from the waves. “Awww slag, why can’t it ever be easy?” He drew his laser rifle and began firing at the Combaticon even as he retreated back to the trees. He glanced over at Saferoute. “If you still got a workin’ gun, I suggest ya use it so we can all get the slag out of here in the fewest pieces possible.”

*

While Oil Slick did not show it he did feel some relief at the arrival of Onslaught. While he was quite capable of fighting battles more sophisticated tactics were not his specialty. In addition he lacked the long range artillery that the Combaticons had. Now he had the luxury of waiting while they softened up the Autobots so he could move in closer to deliver a decisive strike.

*

Swindle finally joined Onslaught and Brawl, poking his head just above the surface of the water to take in the battle in front of him. It certainly was a chaotic scene with Bots and Cons fighting in the air and land. Fortunately the sea was still relatively peaceful, well, if you excluded Brawl and Onslaught firing artillery from it. Really among the Combaticons that seemed to be about as peaceful as it got.

From the looks of things some of the Autobots were retreating with wounded while some others were gathering up. The arms dealer wasn’t particularly interested in the non-wounded Bots. Injured Bots though, they could always be good for salvage, either directly or indirectly from parts they lost while retreating. Either way he needed to slow or stop their retreat. He brought his scatter blaster up and began firing on Saferoute and Kup, knowing that with his gun’s scatter blast pattern he had the best shot of hitting both of them as opposed to any other Autobots.

Hook just waved his hand at Scavenger as he went to work on Mixmaster. “Yes, fine, whatever, just stay out of the way.” The surgical engineer quickly went to work on the Constructicon chemist. He carefully removed his chest plate and quickly began his work on his internal parts. The operation was still a delicate one, but the experience in Scavenger allowed it to go quicker and more smoothly. Once the adjustments were made to his internal structure were complete he moved to the more sophisticated task of adjusting his nervous systems. Soon the outside world was completely tuned out as he worked on bringing another piece of Devestator to life.
