Didn't see this response and just sent you a PM

Of which I got no notification for.

Yeah and if it's the same problem as last time there's really nothing we can do about it.

Glyph wrote:I have an odd PM issue: my control panel insists I have 1 new message but there absolutely isn't one in the inbox. I thought it was being caused by a couple of old, orphaned messages from no-longer-existing accounts, but I've now deleted them and it's still there. Tried all the usual stuff, log in/out, delete all cookies etc. Still there.

Has anyone else had something similar, or am I just special? ;)

did one earlier this week just fine in and out here on the forum and email notification

These issues started late in the week, like Friday.

Grr. So frustrating. I'm not receiving notifications to PMs, again. Thread responses, yes. PMs, no.

Notifications are spotty even if I reply to every thread and every notification. DMs seem to be working for me.

This isn't a problem so much as a question. Why is it necessary for there to be a notification under a post stating that the post has been edited and the number of times it has been edited?
Why is that and what is the point or purpose of it?

I personally haven't ever gotten that kind of notification before. That's weird.

Are your notification settings set up for that or something?

Maybe. I don't know. I'll look at my settings and see if it's something I can change. Maybe it just shows up on my end but my last post on the manliest thread shows that I've edited 2 times and the time I edited it.

I would imagine it's so you know who's been editing your post. Never shows up in the first edit, only from the second edit onwards.

If it's a Moderator, you then know who it is and who to contact to find out why it was edited.

IIRC, phpBB only tracks edits if the post has been replied to, presumably to help clarify when a post retroactively changes and replies don't make sense (either maliciously or otherwise). Some other board systems track every edit and show the post's history, but phpBB only shows number of edits and last modifier AFAIK.

That is as I understand it too. This isn't so much of an issue on these boards. This is one of the most respectful communities I have ever been a part of.

On other boards I've seen the trolls at their worst. And one common tactic, years ago, was to edit a post and claim that a reply changed what the original poster said. I'm sure it entertained any number of people who find that entertaining, but it made civilized discourse all but impossible. With that edit message, it is easy to see that the message was edited sometime after the reply was made, thus reducing such "games."

Again, this was something I remember from years and years ago.

If I may be of help I know that you can turn off edit notifications in your settings so no one will know if you edited your post.

It seems the post notification problem continues to haunt our forums. I just removed the "board watch" settings and made a few other changes. I'm running out of ideas about what the problem could be. Fingers crossed that this latest round of changes works. Hopefully you guys will receive a notification for this post of mine.

If this doesn't work, I've got a few other brute force ideas but I'd rather not be dealing with this right now. Urgh.

Fingers and eyes crossed!!!

There will probably be a lot of duplicate posts made from people refreshing due to the error from uninstalling the board watch system and from having to make a few other changes after phpbb bombed during the upgrade process to the newest version of phpBB. It seems like everything is working so hopefully all is good now as of 8:35pm Central. Please let me know if you have any other problems as well as if you are receiving notifications now. Thanks.

I just had a bacon, salami, ham, lettuce and cheese wrap for lunch.

The lettuce ruined it.
