I will wait till its on Netflix. I watched Nininjer a bit though, to get an idea of how they would reuse scenes and stuff. I much much preffer Nininjer. Its cheezy as hell, I wont deny it, but I think I like having their ninja warrior grandpa be their mentor rather than a cross between Doc Brown and the Mask. I just like how straightforward Nininjer is. Its like, you know the drill now lets get to it, rather than having to explain everything in the most nonsensical way possible. I actually really liked Dinocharge for being simply cheezy, I really dont expect much from Power Rangers.

I've watched the first two and I don't know how I feel about it yet. It's not as bad as Megaforce, but none of the characters really stand out like they did in Dino Charge. (Except Preston, words can't describe the grin on my face when I realized who he is and what he's all about)

The total lack of a consistent theme with the Zords has me weirded out, though.

Red Robo-Zord? Oh, original! Drago-Zord? Boring, been there, done that! Nitro-Zord? It's a dump truck not a race car! Zoom-Zord? It's a bloody bullet train, call it one!! Kodiak-Zord? It's named after a pet dog!!

Man, they are scraping the bottom of the barrel to try to make the weirdest combination of individual mecha in the history of Super Sentai sound cool.

Didn't someone here say that Ninninger basically just took *EVERY* Sentai theme and shoved 'em together for the zords, as basically to say "Yep, here's EVERYTHING! Just roll with it and go crazy!"?

In theory, the idea could work with how a lot of Japanese media depicts ninjas as basically doing anything no matter how ridiculous or impossible. But in execution on our end, Ninja Steel doesn't really seem to grasp the absurdity behind the zords being such a themeless hodgepodge and instead just accepts the zords as they are at face value without question. And without even trying to make much of any connection between the zords and the ninja theme of the rangers themselves.

There was such a missed opportunity for the show to take advantage of the "ninjas can do whatever" mentality to connect the zords to the rangers' ninja theme. Sure, it would have been hokey, but this is Power Rangers we're talking about.

Kakuranger played things straight. Hurricanger took a step in the direction of "ninjas can do whatever."

Nininjer takes the concept and runs with it, and that gives us Gekiatsu Dai-Oh.

Not yet, because or else I would just want the toys now and I dont want to start another hobby (my collection is strictly BOA currently with UFO Maru just because he was so cheap and can interact with the BOA stuff).

So I will only watch it when the American version is about to come out like that I dont have to wait long for the toys I can own.

Pretty much. Ninninger aired in the 40th year of the franchise, though it was only the 39th season due to Goranger running 3 years and JAKQ only 30 episodes, so while Zyuohger got to claim itself as the big anniversary season, Ninninger had some other nods to the franchise history, like having the main megazord be comprised of a little bit of everything, and a special episode on the 40th anniversary of Goranger's first episode (well, until current events delayed things a week).

You forget that language laws extends to electronics. If the phrases said are only in english then he cannot be sold either. Hence why many Tfs have a release where only names are spouted.

It's a freaking toy! Who cares if it doesn't have phrases in French? Not having phrases in English would not prevent Super Sentai toys to be sold in the states! Heck, just the whole needing English and French on the box must make it difficult for stores to sell Gunpla! I mean every box would need a sticker with all the usual nonsense printed on it. Do comic con vendors have these restrictions too?

As it turns out, it gets a bit more dumb than all this. Kanrabat just bought the TRU exclusive full ste of 5 zords and he had this to say:

So they did end up selling the english speaking electronics toy in Quebec, but only in this form of release. the individual release is still not coming. makes no sense.

The site is also a part of KissCartoon and KissAnime, which are LOADED with animated series (and even some live action ones) from all walks of life past and present. There are even some obscure cartoons on there (anyone here ever hear of Ace Lightning? KissCartoon has it in full!).

If the one's that I saw were legit, the main zord looks really cool, I like the style that they're going for

Yeah, the 3/4 view does not flatter the figures, the ones I saw were scans for every zord coming out and they were all front on, which I now suspect was on purpose. They do kinda look like ass from that view, and they are so dumbed-down, it kinda hurts - but the style is still pretty cool

It is cool. I will stillg et this when I can find it for cheap when they make the BOA version 2 years from now.

The Shishi Voyager/"Leo Zord" is really easy to convert for combined mode: flip the front legs 180, fold in the back fins, twist the head around and you're done.

The arm modes looking as they do may seem bad, but it kind of reminds me of the Wild Force and Dino Thunder Zords without any real hands. I'm especially enamored by the Tenbin Voyager/"Libra Zord" and Hebitsukai Voyager/"Ophiuchus Zord", because they "triple change" and have robot modes with Transformer-level articulation. Yes, they're even pretools, sharing everything from the waist down.

Remember the Ryu (Draco) and Kuma (Ursa) Zords, did you look them up? If not, I suggest you should. I should warn you, the Stage 2 Mech, Ryutei Kryurenoh, has already been revealed... It's just the regular Kryurenoh with the Ryu strapped to its back.

I have just one simple request for Bandai of America: under no circumstance should the future US versions be called "Zodiac Zords"! I'm already irritated by the Samurai OctoZord which is actually a squid, and the RPM Tail Spinner, which is a killer whale and not a shark. At least the Falcon Zord was called out on looking like a chicken...

I disagree with this assertion. There is nothing in function or aesthetic that makes Kyurenoh stand out from other recent sentai mecha except its scramble functionality. The simplicity of transformation has been creeping up on us since Gekiranger (Jungle Fury). Hell, last season the first two robots were literally "stack three cubes on top of each other and stick the head part on" and two years before that it was "attach these five trains side by side and fold the middle one in half." (the year in the middle was Ninninger AKA Ninja Steel which you're seeing now). The minimal transformation of the torso component hearkens back to Ninninger, ToQGer Gokaiger, and Goseiger. The lights and sounds from the torso are not something you see in BOA toys these days but it's a key part of the Kyuranger toyline. Even the stubby shape has become common since Dekaranger (SPD). BOA had a say in it and we know this, but it doesn't demonstrate anything that deviates it from previous releases in a way that screams "This was BOA's idea not BOJ's."

I do agree that it looks like **** though. Shishi Voyager is a textbook case of sacrificing its own appearance for the combined formation.

For those interested, Kyuranger 1 is now available from Over-Time. I don't know if it's on KissAsian yet, but by now it probably is.

By the way, I watch Sentai and KR live from Japan every week (when I'm able) and try to invite as many other people to do so, no Japanese knowledge required. I can share the streams I use, but I'm also looking into setting up a chatroom of my own where all the viewers can commentate in real time (full disclosure, most of the livestreams already have this, but the people in those rooms aren't the people I converse with) Watching live, especially with other people, can be a fun bonding experience as we experience Japanese television in all its sometimes wackiness and celebrate the franchises that bring us together. I say no Japanese knowledge is required because tokusatsu is of course mostly action-based and you can get the general idea of what's happening even without knowing the intricacies of the language. It's not to preclude rewatching later with subtitles for full comprehension of course, but a lot of people get turned off by the idea before trying it because they're afraid they won't understand what's going on. Broadcast time is 7:30 AM on Sunday mornings in Japan (GMT+9), which is Saturday at 10:30 PM GMT, 5:30 PM US Eastern Standard Time (GMT-5) and you can work out other time zones from there. I'll post again on Saturday with some links.
