Motto: ""Give me a piece of break" - my 3 year old son"
I have just got to say that i've enjoyed this year quite a lot being a member of Seibertron.com. I've had a lot of changes in my life this year: death of friends, moving, having to disown family, do things I prayed i'd never have to do again, nearly dying. It's been a funky year to say the least, and my company pretty much went belly up for a while as well. But my girl and our son stuck with me through it all, and believe it or not, being able to come on this site and just discuss my love for the franchise and find out lots of new things has helped a lot. Y'all assisted in keeping me sane, even if you don't know it. I'd just like to say thanks to ALL OF SEIBERTRON for being the great people that you are. Now onto the TOYS!!
ROTF best:
5. Demolisher ( I love the concept and it was executed pretty well)
4. Long Haul (Just pure awesome)
3. Leader Megatron (it's a hell of a lot more accurated than last movie's leader figures. and I dig the leg design.)
2. Leader Prime (He's great, i'll agree with all on that, but he's Prime, so he'll never be #1 to me)
1. Skids & Mudflap Ice Cream Truck (Great design, great play value, just all around great, I can't look at those two without smiling, Reprolabels knocked them out of the park with their sticker set.)

Universe:
5. Hot Shot (he just blows, but I don't have many Uni. figs from this year so i'll put them all in.)
4. Cheetor (crap toy)
3. Dinobot (good homage, just proportions bug me and I think they could have done a better job of concealment on the dino chest. That would have knocked it up a notch or two.)
2. Cosmos (I had the original when I was a kid and this was a great update to him.)
1. Cyclonus ( JUST AWESOME, NO MORE, NO LESS)

Alternity:
2. Bumble ( Peaugh made me do it)
1. Megatron Silver (It's the secks)

Masterpiece:
Grimlock (is the s#!^)

And i'm going to put in ROTF Supreme Devastator for most memorable combiner of 2009, because I don't think anybody will ever forget when we found out about him.

Awesome article guys!

I definitely agree with a lot of the choices (though I had several in '08, like Target Shockwave, Cyclonus, and so on ;-)).

I'm really happy with Tigetracks on the black Amazon Prime. He's gorgeous.

Leozack, Skyquake, and Banzai-tron are great figures and look really awesome with one another.

I never got around to buy universe cyclonus, the Universe line dropped me when I got Prowl, Hound and onslaught. All 3 of them had poor quality, broke too easily, and they all felt "incomplete". I admit ROTF and Animated have figures that feel incomplete, but every universe i got felt like that. I had ROTF optimus, but I took him back and got megatron, I still regret that(even though I love rotf megatron). HA BB is my second fave TF EFFOR besides Optimus, making ROTF my favorite line EFFOR! Plus Voyager and Leader Megatron Devistator (even though he wont shut the ass up! And has horrible posability)and Jetfire are some of my fave TFs of all time too.

And Transformers ROTF was the greatest time I have ever had in my life! We went to the midnight premere and brought my cousin and we were going to see the 12:30 show, cuz there wasnt enough room for my dad to get in. But he went in, and there were lots of empty seats. Then they started to fill up. Then the movie started! Honestly, those were the greatest 2 hours and 35 minutes of my life!!! Even though 2009 was one of the worst years ever

I'm with SlyTF1, I think the RotF line is my favorite. The only figure that was a disappointment to me was the Fallen and that's due to his lazy alt mode. I thought the movie was great, it was a huge success and established Transformers as a mainstream franchise. IMO 2009 was a great year for Transformers.

While you may have gotten some of those in 2009... Silverstreak, Astrotrain, Bumblebee, Jetfire and Ratchet were released quite some time ago. The basis of the article that I wrote were for figures released this year

Oh, yes, you are right. I got them in 2009, but many of them released before 2009.

To finally clarify the Cyclonus debate, the figure actually was released in late December of 08 under packaging that said 25th anniversary 84-09 but didn't hit a lot of stores until the new year so that's why I counted it as an 09.

FAVOURITE NEW MOLD OF 2009
Image
Classics Inferno, unconventional? Yes, well, my choice is anyway.

This figure is the..., now this is a science term here: bomb-diggity. Classics is all about capturing the essence of G1 in new improved packaging with fancy new flavors. Inferno does it best, period. He's big, blocky, and brutal. Old School check in? Present. He's detailed, intricate, and articulated. New School, you around? Hell yes.

Also? He's a pump truck, not a ladder truck, so take all your stupid 3rd party ladders somewhere else. The little update to his alt mode, done in a tasteful way considering his size is also a nice bonus.

Above all, I love the transformation. Everything locks, clicks, panels, and generally gets the F out of the way making for an incredible piece of TF engineering.

FAVOURITE REPAINT OF 2009
Image
Henkei Smokescreen, is the paragon of "You're doing it right Takara/Tomy". In my mind, this (along with Hound) is one of the shining examples of "WTF, how could things have gone so wrong for us?" that makes me thank our Japanese overlords for correcting an injustice to my fav G1 car guy.

Not only does Henkei Smokescreen make a beautifully painted representation of the coolest Prowl-y mold variation, but he is easily and vastly superior to the US release. The detailing is superb, the color choices are perfect, and the total package is something that should not be missed if you care at all about your Classics toys.

FAVOURITE REMOLD OF 2009
Henkei Hot Shot

In the land of blind men, the man with one eye (or two guns in this instance) is King.

FAVOURITE EXCLUSIVE OF 2009
Image
Ghost Starscream

God Damn, this is a nice toy...

Hey, my list is filling up with Japanese toys. I think I'm an elitist douchebag. Also, Henkei Inferno is better than Universe Inferno.

How about that Ghost Starscream? Yea? What do you want me to say? He's perfect. Buy one. Is he $80+? Yes. You can't afford that?

Donate blood, plasma, or sperm.

Whatever.

FAVOURITE BOTCON EXCLUSIVE OF 2009
Image
Leozack

Heeeeey...an American exclusive toy based off a Japanese character. Otaku? Me? No, I mean, I'm down with Hentai (No, I did not mean Henkei.), but that's about as far as it goes.

Leozack is the bee's knees, perfect color balance, wonderful use of clear plastic, great mold, just a great package all around.

I hope yours came with both is feet. I mean, mine did; some people's did not though. That's China's fault though.

FAVOURITE REVENGE OF THE FALLEN FIGURE OF 2009
Image
Long Haul

I considered choosing Supreme Devastator because, well, it would be funny. Long Haul deserves to have his praises sung though. Essentially, he's the Universe Inferno of the RotF line. He does it all, does it well, and without fail. Bulky, posable, detailed, perfect.

This is what a Transformer should be. This height of quality should be what all the other movie toys reach towards. I am concerned that we did not show this toy enough love and praise this year. I blame you.

FAVOURITE ANIMATED FIGURE OF 2009
Image
Blurr

Wonderful, if not a bit tight in the design department. This toy played a large part in convincing me to give Animated a fair shake. His shape defines his purpose and is at the same time a reflection of it. He mirrors the G1 toy well with his shield and head-fin. Even if I hated Animated (which I don't anymore), I would own this toy. That's high praise from an elitist prick like me.

FAVOURITE TOY LINE OF 2009
Image
Encore

Sometimes, a line can do one thing, one little thing to make it incredibly memorable. Encore gave us Ratbat. Damnit, that's incredible. Don't think your little SDCC Soundwaves would have had Ratbat included if it were not for this line. Ratbat, for those that don't know was an $80-140 piece of 1.5 ounce plastic that was often missing horrifically small parts. Encore gets you Ratbat and three other jerks for @ $50. Great Justice, Great Burning Justice indeed.

FAVOURITE TRANSFORMERS MOMENT OF 2009
Opening my G3 trailer.

I can't explain how much fun it was to open this thing and just run through the features while my wife sat watching just engrossed at all the little gimmicks. I got to play with a toy in a manner which I don't often get to just to try out all the crap this thing can do. Opening up this toy led to a complete re-envisioning of my Classics Autobots display.

Good times.
