Yeah thats pretty much how I remember it. The offenive part was the motague of racial stereotypes recieving the call from Bill Pullman (the US President) that he and America had devisd a plan save our asses, yet again. I think us Brit were depicted as mustache twirling WWII Spitfire piolts saying something like "jolly good show, about time you Americans sorted this little mess out! Tally ho and God save the Queen, what what!".

This movie has been in development for a couple years and I'm positive most of that time wasn't spent thinking 'let's do this to piss off the fans.' Calm down. CALM DOWN GAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

I'm not saying if he did or not because I have no way of knowing.

There just isn't any point of him even trying to approach VW when they've taken this anti-war stance about refusing to let Hasbro make a Bumblebee where his alt-mode is the VW Beetle.

My vote for the HOF goes to my favorite Transformer, Kup, to the Headmasters (who still need new figures that aren't just the characters without their master components) and to seibertron.com for for being the ultimate TF resource.

Am I to understand that this movie depicts the British in a poor light?

We do that ourselves with Only Fools And Horses and the lager louts in Thurrock.

There is rumour of Prime having a radio-conversation with a very British Powerglide, though.

"Am I to understand that this movie depicts the British in a poor light?"

I thought they were saying that Independence Day did that- a subject we got onto when Ryan commented that the humourous elements in the TF film were similar in feel to ID4 (the gags that is, not the casual racism).

The first time I saw Independence Day I thought it was amazing. The second time I saw it I spent most of my time picking out which bits were ripped wholesale from War of the World and which bits from "V". TF has a leg up already by at least having a halfway original premise.

But is this film not diminishing that premise by simply making it 'Independence Day' but with robots instead of squishy aliens stolen from the X-Files?

From what I've read about the film it simply feels like a bunch of bumbling robots chasing after a cosmic Maguffin, waiting for the humans to solve their problems (god bless America); add a little T&A and lotsa explosions and voila!

OK, it's just a story based on a toy and yadda yadda yadda, but couldn't we have something more substantial?

Lets set the record straight.

Postby trunks6728 » Sun Feb 18, 2007 8:24 am

WHile i really dislike the starscream and megatron charector design, i am still going to give the movie a chance. i am not going in expecting it to be g1. i accept that isn't going to happen and big explosions, aliens might be a american thing but if you don't like it, then don't watch the movie.. there were plenty of battles and explosions in the cartoon series. I am not all that excited about the comedy in there but it won't be that bad..

first off.. Independence day was an american film and revolved around independence day which is an american holiday. And yes america saved the world.. and.. it was a movie. anyone offended by anything in that movie is reaching and shows how uptight some are about things. The movie was actualy good, it was a sci fi movie. the scene some are referring to is "we got a message, it is from the americans, they figured out how to lower the shilds: The other guy said it is about bloody time.. that was it.. that didn't demean anyone, it was just that the movie centered around the U.S and they figured it out. wow.. so stereo typical and racist.

it came out in the 90's when apparently everyone didn't think to much about hating on america.

while of course there are america haters and blame america first for everything even though whether you agree or not with the current situation. we have saved half the worlds asses several times. and there is nothing wrong with a patriotic movie or people feeling that way about thier country. why in the world anyone is bringing politics or steriotypeing america like some are doing showing how hypocritical they are is really amusing.

Nothing is going to get better until people learn that things arn't always going to go thier way. there are too many easily offended people in the world and it is people like that who need to get a life.

This should be posted tomorrow night. It's mostly written ... I just have to make a few tweaks. I'll be on the train to head to Ann Arbor, Michigan tomorrow so I'll spend an hour finishing it up and will post it when I get settled into my hotel room tomorrow night.

Hey Ryan, you should put the review in a new thread.

Where are you off to now? Seib's Planetary Thrusters are firing on all cylinders. Also, good call on the Train.

Buddy Christ is awesome. "Dogma" is probably one of my most favorite movies. George Carlin as the Father in this movie is hysterical.

From what I remember, it mostly revolved around an adrenaline-fueled Will Smith shouting at an alien before punching it out. There were a few 'mildly amusing' moments, mostly in the you-know-what's-coming-but-you-laugh-anyway vein. I haven't watched the film in years, but the overriding impression of it in my memory consists of big effects and some seriously overblown flag-waving about America saving the world - again - because no-one else has the balls to stand up for our rights or some such. And Jeff Goldblum infecting the alien mothership with a virus wirelessly uploaded from his laptop with no connection difficulties or OS compatibility issues whatsoever.

I thought America saving the world with patriotic spirit was the comedy in that movie. :?

Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, being stereotypically 'Jewy' = "comedy".

Harvey Fierstein being stereotypically 'Jewy' and a flaming homosexual = "comedy".
