Were the effects the best of the series? Yes, absolutely. It'd be foolish to deny this. But I didn't feel the magic of the first or second one anymore either. The arrival of the autobots in the first movie, the intro scenes for Ironhide and Optimus in the second one, the revival of Prime in the second and then his combination with Jetfire, and finally the endings to both with Prime delivering a message (although the first movie's end message was better). DOTM had none of this for me. It was purely a technical affair this time around. It didn't romance me the same way, get my imagination running.
For some reason the human parts in this one, all the parents, sam and carly interactions, and the job search just really felt awkward this time.
I think the difference to this time around was it just didn't feel fun. It was almost a task to watch it. Somewhere it felt like to me that they bowed to criticism of the last one so much that they changed too much in response. Darker, duller interactions, sad. I for one have liked that they were just happy go lucky popcorn movies to this point. It was FUN to kill a couple hours or so in the theater watching parts fly off the bots. Didn't feel it was fun this time, I just kept wondering how bad it was going to get and which one of my favorites was going to be killed off next. It was too tense basically. If the series had started this way it would be one thing. But the tone shift lost me along the way here.

Where you expecting an Oscar type movie?
Did you submit scrips to Bay & Co?
What cartoon, comic book, action figure made into a live action film has been perfect?
People have hated the first 3 Star Wars movies which were excellent. People have love or hated the Superman, Batman, XMEN, Ironman movies but the key word is Movies. You go to escape from the real world for a few hrs, some take it as though it's the end of the world because "Their favorite cartoon, comic book, action figure characters etc" wasn't The Movie they wanted it.
I'm pretty sure this time around he had alot of input on do's & don'ts, how things should go who knows.
It's just wild reading these responses.
As for when I said people were applauding, why do some clap & cheer after riding a roller-coaster?

I never understood how people can get so worked up over movies. Are their lives so cushy and boring that watching a movie is the worst thing that can happen to them? Maybe some people just live to complain I guess.

Or perhaps it is that some people expect more from the film that they paid money to see.

Maybe if the film was 3hrs it could've satisfied some or now that I think about it maybe not because some would've still had things to complain about.

Shockwave should have had a more pivital role. But he gets killed by small arms fire from the humans... come on. We get several more decepticons but they stay anonymous. No combiner bots, no Omega Supreme or Aerial Bots.. it was just hugely disappointing.

So while the autobots are fighting the decepticons we have to suffer through watching humans running around collapsing buildings. We have to suffer through yet another "romance" story. Sam having to rescue his girlfriend yet again.

I was hoping the space bridge would have also allowed the autobots to call in reinforcements. It would have been great to see Superion or Omega Supreme take out a bunch of decepticons. But we get nothing like that.
We mostly get a story about the humans with the Transformers as window dressing. I kindof suspect that some of this may be due to limitations in technology. Perhaps their animators and computers simply can't create a Transformers movie where we see the robots for most of the movie.

DOTM was already the most expensive movie ever, so WTF more do you want?

Maybe some people have legitimate reasons for not liking the movie.
