They had to start somewhere, didn't they?

Anyway I've said my piece and in doing so I've realized just how futile it all is so I think I'll take my leave from Seibertron.com for the foreseeable future.

Didn't you do this once already? Having an opinion is not futile and I commend you for holding your convictions while I may not agree with them the are yours to have. I just think that you may be putting Transformers in general on a pedestal that in the end it may not truly be worthy of.

I can kinda see where AK is coming from. Whenever I think of Prime I think of a stoic figure. Watching Prime walk around the yard kinda clumsily and then accidently step on that fountain made me grimace. I could see the other TF's doing this (especially BB), but seeing prime portrayed like that felt a little off. This of coarse is my opinion and others are free to feel differently.

I have already pre paid for my tickets and can't wait till 8 PM 7/2/07!

I'm going to agree with you on your point of it seems very un-Prime-ish, but listen to this:

If you were 30 foot tall robot trying to walk through a cramped (to your POV) neighborhood, how agile would you be without stepping on anything?

Here's the part where I read way far into this. By having Optimus carefully walk around Sam's home, it showing us he's trying to avoid destroying anything, while a Decepticon would plow through without a second thought. I think these little details are put in the film in order to show us the differences between the two factions, despite being the same specise they're drastically different from one another. This story telling tactic is the film makers trying to make the Transformers seem more Human-and therefore more believable.

Agree. I had the same thought about Prime being careful. I just think that they could have gotten the same idea across without having him step on the fountain. IMO it made him look clumsy. I wouldn't have had a second thought about it if another Autobot had stepped on it. I just dont like seeing Prime portrayed like that.

While I do think everyone has a right to their opinions of the movie, I don't think this sort of comedy is all that far off the mark from what we've seen before. Heck, even Prime's not been free of goofiness(remember him learning to play basketball in G1?). Beast Wars, which a lot of fans tend to agree set the standard for TF series, had all kinds of goofy sight gags with Waspinator, the Rhinox vs. Inferno Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots moment, and Primal's aside about die-cast. There were lots of visual comedy moments with Crumplezone and Gasket in Cybertron. The Marvel comics also got some mileage out of giant robots being naive to the ways of the world. So, honestly, I don't see a problem with it. The humor helps take the edge off the action, and I don't see a problem with it. I'm not sure a grim, gritty two hours and fifteen minutes of action would work out. Plus, I'll fully admit, it was a blast listening to people crack up over this in my break room at work. But, again, I don't begrudge anyone the right to think it's NOT funny and not go see the movie.

On a different note, Shia was pretty funny throughout, and he's really set up for a big career in the future. He just seems to have a connection with audiences that you just can't train. If I recall correctly, Disturbia tripled the studio's expectations, and Shia got a lot of the credit for it. And it's a blast to see people like him and Josh Duhamel having so much fun promoting the movie and having a passion for it.

Shia was the perfect person to get tO play Sam/Spike. Some people resent him because he only chose the role in order to get his foot in the Hollywood door so to speak. So? He isn't the first (nor will he be the last) actor to do so. You have to start somewhere. And if that film turns out to be something more for you then a boost into star-dom, then good for you. More power to ya.

I've always been a Shia-girl. When they first announced him as Spike, I was all "Hell Yeah!" So what if he curses. I curse. A lot. Most people don't realize how much they curse, ESP people around our age (15-30). OK getting off Track.

Anyway:

I think people who can't except comedic moments in the film are being too critical. But who knows, after I see the film (18 days left!!!) I may agree with them. I actually haven't watched the clip yet with the sound on. I'm at my mom's work on her co-worker's comp. She doesn't have sound. Just got off work 45 minutes ago and my mom's working late (we drive into Birmingham together). And got my first pay check today! $247.83! Woohoo

....but that's off topic. lol. :P

Yeah I know its not without precedent and yeah I guess I need to get a grip. However with ever clip I see of this movie, every shred of information on the designs, the story, the characters I feel less and less like I want to be in anyway associated with Transformers and more depressed that this movie is taking the franchise back to it's roots in a childish generic action series designed to sell toys to kids. I guess I shouldn't take it so seriously, it is after all aimed at children. But that has always been my problem, collecting Transformers has never been about nostalgia for kids toys and cartoons for me its been about the characters and stories developed from that, its about what developed out of that silly little 80s cartoon and toy line. I guess I'm just annoyed that the movie makers chose to concentrate on the Transformers very early origins as inspiration and not the deep rich mythology that has been built around it since then. I hate big dumb action movies with light but 'entertaining' plots that say 'hey sit down switch off you brain and prepare to marvel at all the pretty lights and pictures', those sort of movies bore the **** out of me, and its difficult for me to see something I've invested so much time, effort and passion into become something I've always fought against....the mainstream.

I get where you are coming from. While Im not as worried about it being too "mainstream" as you, hell TF is an international industry thats being going strong since the 80's, thats pretty "mainstream" to me, I would also have liked a more adult/darker take with the movie. The clip was alright, the effects were good but I wasnt blown away. So far what I have seen and read point to a movie thats going to be more about the effects/action than a "deep" story.

I still dont like the overall design approach that they have taken for the bots (jagged edges, insect like features, fangs, etc). But the asthetics aside, do we really need to have Bonecrusher make growling noises when hes fighting Prime so that we are sure hes "the bad guy"? Its little things like that that detract from the feel and or expectations one has going into this. Giant robots stomping around a kids back yard as comedy relief isnt much better either. I mean we are supposed to believe that we are dealing with advanced sintient alien robots that have been around for thousands of years and pose a grave threat to our planet. One would think that they would at least have some common sense when it came to hiding them selfs and or going about their mission, not hanging out in some kids back yard and being all clumsy.

I think a big problem people are having with this clip is the context of it.

Why are they at Sam's place? They're there to retrieve the glasses that belonged to Sam's grandfather.

Sam told them all to stay in the alleyway but impatience got the better of them. Plus aside from Bumblebee, the other Autobots are newcommers to Earth and don't know anything about having a perfect lawn or bird baths or understand Sam's desire to not let his parents know about the giant alien robots in the alleyway behind the house.

Should've played the Sam and Barricade clip. That would have fans in total orgasmic overload. :P

Aren't their alt modes for hiding? Shouldn't they have just parked on the street and waited?

I have not seen the movie yet, so I can't say how it fits with the whole thing, or why they would insist on being in robot mode there, but it was just something I've been pondering.

It makes sense for that scene.
I'm not spoiling anything but there is a reason for it.

Ditto. From the "shhh-ing" and the "Cut-it-out" and (my fav) "What" gesture (re-watch the clip and just pay attention to BB and you'll know what I'm talking about). 8)

I am not sure what to make of this scene. At first, I was a little irritated by it, as it almost looks like Bay made the TF's look more silly than alien. How does Bumblebee know what the sign is for "shhh" or "wait" again? Then, I showed my wife the clip. She's only known TF's since she married me 3 years ago. She thought the clip was cute/funny. She said that a lot of the good action movies have to have that humor in them to balance out all the action. I can agree with that. I just hope that this clip is from the first or second night that most of the TF's come to Earth, that would explain their awkwardness. However, wouldn't their walking and crashing into everything wake up Sam's neighbors and cause a panic? I guess we will see...

Maybe I can explain Bumblebee's behavioural patterns.

It's simple. He learned them from Bernie Mac while in the used car lot

Hell yeah he speaks english! I personally felt it was one of the best parts of the movie. Barricade's voice was perfect and that scene gave me chills. It was everything a Decepticon should be!

that scene is one of my faves in the trailer aswell, if only for the fact that its the one that feels the creepiest...i mean, if I had a angry gigantic robot pinning me like that, i'd **** my pants tbh :P
