Should be they be alive or just regular bots? Now being alive doesn't mean they have to be alive the way organics are. They can be alive in their own way.

What's the difference between how Transformers are "alive" and "regular bots"?

I think the point they are making is them just being machines with programmes as such and advanced A.I. to recent depictions such as the movies where they had cybertronian dna...or what ever the plot point of Age of extinction was supposed to be.
Though really they've never been just machines, even when taking into account the g1 toon origin. It could argued that as soon as they gained sentience they were alive.

Regular bots are just robots who are program. Transformers are not programming bots

Actually the point the point I was trying to make should they be living bots or nonliving bots. Too bad I can't make a poll here.

Absolutely yes. Transformers being sentient beings makes the story so much better. Without the Transformers having life I doubt the series would be so popular. There are a lot of shows with robots in them but when the robots are personified as living beings we can relate to them a lot more.
Also it brings up more plot points when things happen in the story. If they were never alive there would not be as big a consequence to them dying or fighting one another. Without life they could not have free will or thought so someone would have to be telling them what to do all the time which would limit the plot significantly.
