Something vintage or something new?

Ok, So I may be coming into a decent amount of money fairly soon, and of course, the disposable part of it is going to toys :) So my question is this: Does one get a really nice vintage piece, something normally way out of reach without saving and missing out on the recent releases, or does one get something modern, that again, due to price is normally out of reach?

I definitely don't want to nickle and dime my funds away- it would be easy to do with various imports and past releases that have gone up a good deal in price, but the chance to get something special is pretty uncommon.

So, something like a full MakeToys Green Giant? Or perhaps a couple of Takara MPs that cost big bucks ALA MP-11 Starscream, and Takara Grimlock?

Or should looking into a nice vintage piece be the way to go? Perhaps a Star Saber, or maybe a couple of the G1 gestalts in really nice complete condition?

I'm very indecisive on this, so I'm leaning on your input. Cheers!

A good question on moments like these is 'what got me in to collecting?'

Go for those TF's.

I myself am extremely partial towards boxed vintage GEEWUN. I got a nice 1987/1988 pile going.

That 87/88 boxed pile sounds real nice.

I agree with the sentiment wholeheartedly. If it were me, I put money int a nice set of shelves (or two!) and Hasbro's MP 10. Nothing beats G1 Optimus! :). I'd like to snags self a G2 Laser Prime someday for sure.

Heres my dilemma; I grew up with G1, and had those toys as a young lad. However, it was a Generations toy that got me back into collecting recently (Gen Wheeljack). Now, I have gotten a bunch of my old G1 goodies- a trio of Takara re-issue seekers, commemorative Jazz, Red Alert, Tracks, Inferno, Grapple, Prowl, ect.

But, I have also dived into some of the newer lines like Prime, CHUG, FoC, MPs, and these are some AWESOME toys! So where I thought I would just re-live my childhood with all the stuff I grew up with, I'm just as digging the new stuff thats benefiting from 30 years worth of progress.

If I where flush enough, through inheritance or winnings, I would be all over those out of reach 3rd Party lovelies such as Genesis, Hexatron, Giant, Quake Wave, Hegemon, Grindrod, Aurora and the Warbots with a side order of Hercules, Uranos, Trailerforce, Iron Army, Ferocicons and Function X with a sprinkling of Rager, Cogs and Spray for good measure!

On the walk home I would pop in to the takeaway and order some junkfood such as MP Starscream, MP Sunstorm, MP Red Alert, MP V2 Optimus Prime, Mp Soundwave, dash a whole bunch of asia exclusives on top, then throw up everywhere before I got home!

I vote for Star Saber, you can't go wrong with that one.

Gold plastics, you mean?

Also- Star Saber is way up on my list of 'most wanted' the pricetag is scary, though. And he wouldn't be complete without Victory Leo. Prices are ouchies.

Not gold plastic. My G1 Onslaught's been breaking all over(the leg and the "wing" chest plate.........gray plastic syndrome?

Even my Optimus Prime G1's fist and his chest chamber........all cracking up.

Get a complete Grand Maximus. Nobody in the fandom will say **** about your collection then. Next time I get a spare $3000, that's what I'm gonna do.
