Stats and their effects

Postby Hyroo » Tue Oct 18, 2011 10:54 am

Weapon: Neutron Blaster
I've taken the Wallbreakers right to the edge of level 1, but I've decided to keep them at level 0 for now so that they can jump into level 1 like champions. I've been playing for a bit now, but there are some things about the stats that I don't understand.

What stat governs weapon damage, or is it determined only by weapon type?

Why do so many weapons have identical visible stats? Is there any difference between a Gun and a Hand-mounted Laser?

At what intelligence level do you unlock Repair? Is it different for each altmode that has a repair ability?

How does armor affect survivability, and how much? Do your bots take less damage, or get hit less often?

Wow. Ok first things first.
A weapons damage is determined by a few stats. First Firepower/Skill (depending upon weapon tree). While the stats may look similar (Heavy, or light to incredible) it is actually determined by a hidden value on the weapon. When you have ranges such as light to incredible that value is a calculated value done by a base * RNG. Strength has also a small play on a weapons damage since Weapon damage is an added damage off of base damage and Strength is a base damage modifier. The damage done for both base and weapon damage is added and then calculated against the armor/endurance value of your opponent and the number rolled for their RNG saving value

INT: Not all repair tactics require INT to start repair. However like firepower is an effect on Strafe, INT has its own purpose. The more INT on repair the more of a chance you have of firing it off. The more points you have in repair the greater repair you will get.

How does armor affect survivability, and how much? Do your bots take less damage, or get hit less often?:
Armor is a damage reducer on basic attacks. This does not include but aids in tactics damage reduction slightly. At lower levels a few tons of Armor can make a huge difference. However as you level up the armor needs to be upgraded to deal with higher base damage. This from what I can tell does have slight amount to do with how often you get hit, but its so small that it can be discounted.

For example if we use a base 10 system and break it down like this. (This is not reflective of the game math, but should give you a basic understanding)

The easiest way to describe damage taken is to think of the old D&D base calculations and damage rolls. First you roll to see if you successfully hit, then you roll to see what your calculated damage is and the opponent rolls to see the calculated damage reduction.

Hope that clears things up for you.

Weapon: Corrosive Slime Shooter
This page will tell you what alt modes have what tactics by class, and if their second tactic is unlocked by something else. Most don't have repair, or a second tactic that gets unlocked. This one will show you the available alt modes by class. They change every 2 days.

Anshin is right about the weapons, but I believe what you meant was the ones available all having the same medium to heavy (or what have you) damage ranges. From memory, the average damage of each weapon at a particular level will all have the same, no matter the price. The price effected something, and I want to say recharge rate, but I could be wrong.

And to make Anshin's explaination a little simplier, Armor is damage reduction for weapon attacks.

never knew firepower affected strafe.. does it affect it the same way intelligence affects repair? as in it makes you hit harder per point?

also, i'm really reluctant to buy light-whatever weapons even at higher echelons because of bad experiences with the metallikato strike doing only one point of damage repeatedly when the the character had more than 3 strength lol. i was like eff this.

Well Strafe is kind of a funny tactic. The higher Firepower you have the stronger your weapon is. The stronger your weapon is the more likely you are to hit and do more damage. Strafe does damage until it receives a miss or no count for the strafe. So you are more likely to get 6-8 strafes off of a high firepower weapon than you are off of a low firepower weapon. This is not to say you can't get a strafe off of a low firepower weapon, but the chances are much much less.

As for light to X damage weapons, well you have to look at the range. Typically things such as Battle Blades have a higher roll for the damage, but yes you can occasionally do a 1pt strike. The light to X damage weapons are a gamble that has a payoff. They typically have an average damage, but from time to time can get those super high damage hits. Conversely they can also get the 1% hits. That is just the way RNG rolls. I know that I have been fighting with RNG for the past few days on my attack frequency vs opponents that have half my courage.

Firepower enhances Strafe
Strength enhances Ram
Intelligence enhances Repair
Speed enhances Avoid BUT is counter-enhanced by Courage. (Higher courage increases your chances of an offensive move as apposed to a defensive move like Avoid)

I slightly disagree with this statement only because from what I have seen and read is that avoid is a passive trait. There only a chance you will avoid when attacked. You won't actively avoid for your turn instead of attacking. The higher your speed the greater your chance of an enemy missing you. The higher the avoid, the greater the chance you will fire off the tactic instead and instead of an attacker missing you the attacker will avoid.

But then again Burn has been around longer than me and knows the game pretty well, so as much of a hard time I like to give him, I also have to trust him when he says his words of wisdom.

avoid has generally been fed by speed if i remember rightly ram is countered by a combination of str and endurance but my memory is a bit fuzzy

Endurance is SUPPOSE to reduce the stun affect of ram. But I don't think it's ever really worked right.

Endurance from what I have seen reduces Ram/Strafe damage. High Strength seems to stop the stun effect, however only 10 is what I have seen to stop the ram stun effect.

ok, since we're on the subject of revealing the hidden effects of each stat, i'm wondering what the rest of the stats not mentioned do secrectly. like courage, rank, & skill. (i know skill unlocks new abilities like intelligence does) but what's it really do.

also, i've been wondering about all those extra abilities described on the upgrade page. what's their purpose? i've never seen them used.

For the most part, concerning the italicized stuff, nothing, since the game's never been finished from what I know, but I do miss more time than actually play, so I could be wrong.

*edit* But, speed is supposed to help your accuracy, and if memory serves, also helps with getting actions in the missions/arena.

Strength ups all weapon damage, as well as ram damage, and ups the ammount of armor you can wear.

rank unlocks more armor, and there was a rumor way back pre-Glyph that it made a bigger target on your back.

int ups repair and can unlock tactics on alts with hidden/locked ones.

fire power ups strafe, and better weapons

skill unlocks better weapons and unlocks hidden/locked tactics on alts with them

end ups your resistance to damage from tactics, and boosts how much a repair heals you for

courage ups how often you will ask the RNG to let you attack

I believe the mathmatical formula for the effects of stats on performance was something like (value/5)*.5 or something like that. I remember that the baseline was all fives in all stats, so anything under a five, is giving you penalties.

Thanks for all the info, it's good to finally get some of those mysteries cleared up! I have one more question... What's the deal with the Cyclone Gun? 4k for light to medium damage, with a recharge? I feel like there has to be some secret there. Or, is the secret that there is no secret?

I think Glyph finished it but never updated the page, then the changes were lost ... or something like that.

*edit* But, speed is supposed to help your accuracy, and if memory serves, also helps with getting actions in the missions/arena.

Increases your accuracy and also throws off your opponents chances of hitting you.

Strength ups all weapon damage, as well as ram damage, and ups the ammount of armor you can wear.

Use to only up the melee weapons, but somewhere along the line it boosted all of them.

Hey Anshin, I got one for you to test.

Get yourself two bots, set them up in a similar manner but give one of them Five Courage.

This is going back many years ago, every time I had a bot (that's bot not 'bot) with five courage they completely sucked. Drop them down to four, or up them to six, and they performed better. I've always felt Five Courage to be "cursed".
