This won't be surprising... Mainly because Snarl was in the movie for literally a few seconds.
But also because at some point SS86 will come to an end.
Considering I really thought characters like Kickback and Blitzwing would be a part of this subline and aren't, I'm thinking it only has a year or two left. I assume they're going to want to get Swoop under this banner before it's over, but Snarl may not make the cut in time.

Of course I could be totally wrong... I think about things like Gnaw coming with his blaster, Cyclonus being in Kingdom when he clearly has the SS86 aesthetics, and especially Buzzworthy Kup and Cliffjumper...
Which quick side note; if CJ does get a SS86 release, I won't be at all surprised if his windows are transparent plastic.
But who knows, as far as I've seen, SS86 is selling and selling well.
If Hastak ends up milking this beyond a couple years it won't be surprising at all.
IF Arcee and Ironhide are in fact just slight repaints of their previous molds, I could see Hastak taking this a step further and doing this with other figures to stretch the life of the line.
I could see anything from previous exclusives such as the coneheads and Ratchet, to repainted figures like a battle-damaged Megatron or Prowl keeping this line going.

I'm relatively annoyed that we're not getting a couple Dinobots this year. I really thought both Sludge and Swoop would get 2022 releases.
That, and only getting one Insecticon in Legacy.
Looks like Hastak is going to keep me in the game a while longer.

It is ironic to think WFC has actually hurt the potential longevity of this line. Earthrise in particular. Without that 80's specific line. The SS '86 series could have included a new Arcee, Ultra Magnus etc

As characters introduced in The Movie should have been released in this line. Not in an unrelated line, just to cater to Warden's fetish.

I have to admit the branding is weird, but it's not the thing that matters to me. Maybe it would if I were an MIB collector.

The only advantage Studio has over Kingdom is a lack of blast effect ports on the body of the figures.

At this point no one questions why SS86 was created.
Although I’m betting this subline is probably selling better than any other.
Talk about a happy accident.
But besides ports/pegs, there is a different aesthetic. Period.
The molded details seen on both Siege & ER figures has not been added to figures in SS86.
It’s what a few of us have been calling Siege greebling.
The Dinobots are an exception (as well as ER Starscream) but not surprising considering how large they are, and in turn, how large their limbs & panels are.
Cyclonus & Galvatron are definitely 2 that have the same design aesthetics as Hot Rod, Scourge, Kup, Blurr, Wreck-gar, Perceptor, etc.
I’m not claiming this as my personal discovery by any means.
But anyone who wants to deny this… I truly don’t know how or why.

And no, I don’t care which packaging a figure is sold in.

TFW article from today says the RotB toyline still releases in April, dunno if that info has reached these parts yet.

1. Both WFC and SS86 have figures that have more or less "'greebling" and/or blast effect parts than their compatriots. Scourge has both, the Dinobots have both, Jazz has "greebling", the Galvatron you say follows the "SS86 aesthetic" has the battle damage paint apps from Siege and "greebling", even Wreck-Gar has some "greebling", just a low amount.
2. We've been blatantly told that WFC and SS86 supplement each other and/or were the same line originally, they wouldn't be designing with a different aesthetic in mind if that was the case (and we know they take unified design aesthetics seriously based on Legacy Bulkhead & Arcee).
3. Coronation Starscream wouldn't be an ER Screamer reuse if there was a different aesthetic.

I mentioned the Dinobots & why figures that large would have more molded detail.
Jazz doesn’t have the greebling that Siege figures do.
And I was specifically talking about molding, not paint apps.
Which I wouldn doubt if that was a last minute add-on.

I’m betting SS was supposed to be slightly retooled… Which there was a photo or two floating around where he had altered parts; I think it was legs.

But your post is exactly what I’m talking about.
Saying Scourge doesn’t have a different aesthetic from Siege/ER figures…

I guess we’ll agree to disagree…

You're the one living in denial, Sowndwave76. You keep seizing onto laughably flimsy points (that are shot down as easily as Autobot shuttles) to support your insistence that they're somehow different. Get over it already, PLEASE.

Did anyone take notice of the detail on Scourge I brought up, or did it get buried under Sowndwave's whinging and the Junkyard discussion?

I guess we’ll agree to disagree…
I just went upstairs, grabbed Kingdom Jackpot (since he was closer than Jazz), SS86 Sweep, and Siege Shockwave (sans armor) and came back. The only "difference in aesthetics" I see here is the fact that 2/3 of them are based off Diaclone designs and the other is a Floro Dery design (and Shockwave has battle damage paint on his feet, but you said you're ignoring that), same amount of molded "greebling" on all of them. They could have put these figures out at the same time and I would absolutely believe they were from the same line.

This is also the first I've heard of these alleged remolded Starscream legs, do you know where those photos are still?

And your argument for why large figures have more detailing is..."because they're larger". If there really was some different aesthetic they were dedicated to for this line, why would that matter?

Sowndwave76 wrote:But wow.
This is my reaction every time you bring this theory/argument of yours up, so on that we agree.

I saw the detailing you mentioned when I looked at my Sweep, and I agree that it is similar to those Cybertron lads, but I don't know that it's a close enough resemblance to indicate anything in regards to new figures of them. I'm kinda wondering if maybe that part is going to be painted as a cockpit window on the rumored Alpha Trion retool, honestly.

I also really want Generations updates of both the Armada and Cybertron Sideways designs though, so I'm purposefully trying to not be excited by this possibility so I can't be disappointed later.

Given the track record of such updates thus far, odds are good you'd be disappointed even if it happened :P ;) Especially if the C-Sideways update was largely just the Scourge mold with his head and color scheme.

Of course, given the connection between G1 Scourge and the Cybertron Sideways mold (courtesy of the "Wings of Honor" BotCon figures), the detail might indicate a pending release of the mold in the WoH Sweep colors (probably in the Buzzworthy line):

Entirely possible, although I am the kind of weirdo that actively likes/enjoys Siege Galaxy Prime and Selects Hot Shot (partly since I never had the originals to compare to, despite wanting them) as well as Kingdom Cheetor's altered design, and is excited for Legacy Arcee and Bulkhead (although I admit Bulk's proportions are eh), so my taste in terms of how accurate updates need to be clearly is....questionable compared to the standards of a lot of the others here.

I noticed it too. Why not just make it the same design? I guess it's probably a reference since it kind of looks like half of that design.

As for Kingdom having a different look than Studio86, I don't see it. I mean Siege, sure, a bit. Not so much ER and Kingdom.

Is it important to you that you believe that they're different? Will it change how you feel about the characters?

As for screamer, there was nothing ever said about his legs, in fact the initial rumours only claimed that his shoulders had been altered to fit the cape. That's why a lot of us whers surprised to see his hands had been altered.

I'd still say the throne is meant for someone else though ;)

It's not hard to remove the arms, it's getting them to reattach that's the trick.

Its the legs. They are a little too short to reach the spikes on the front wheel and use them like foot pegs, and they are too long and bulky to tuck in cleanly crotch-rocket style, leaving them sort of in no man's land.

Studio Series 86 Leader Starscream Found at Target

Postby william-james88 » Fri Jan 21, 2022 12:55 pm

Motto: "'till All Are One"
We are not even done January yet and we have a nice new sighting of a toy which some retailers were planning to only get in June. Transformers Studio Series 86 Leader Class Coronation Starscream was spotted at a Target in Greenwood Indiana. They come two per case and are closed box. This is the same voyager Starscream we got in Earthrise (proving that all these G1 character molds are meant to go together) but with articulated hands and lots of accessories including Megatron's throne.

This sighting comes to us from SAF7 who posted it on the TFW2005 boards.

I hate the window-less packaging that doesn't allow us to check for any blemishes or other imperfections on the figure. Now's it's a complete gamble as to whether the figure is flawed or not.
