But the 86 Series made me think...are we to expect a UM figure in this line?

I'm sorry if this has already been covered but if we will be getting a figure then I will be returning the Kingdom version, of course if it's over all better than Kingdom UM.

My thanks in advance! ;)^ :VEHI:

If they did a new Magnus anytime soon, it would probably be a redeco or minor retool rather than a new mold, so I think this is a safe pickup.

Of course, I have two versions of the Siege remold before I got the Kingdom one, which is all I really wanted, so I'm not a good guide to smart buying.

Pretty much any character that appeared in TF:TM, that gets a figure in Kingdom should be considered, for all intents and purposes, as Studio Series (and vice versa). Hasbro apparently just didn't have the room for all the toys in one line.

I’m hoping for a new version sooner than later.
From what I’ve seen in video reviews & photos, this current mold is decent, but could be better.
I get it; making this character work with all the moving parts is tricky.
And if I ever see the Kingdom version, I’ll probably get it (& wait to open it to make sure I really want it).
But I’m to the point where I’m willing to take partsforming & whatever else to get a really solid, accurate-looking bot mode.
If this means the trailer is a completely separate piece & the parts that help form the bot mode are stored in/on/under the trailer in alt mode, fine by me.
If they can do it right, really right, I’d be okay with this becoming a Commander Class figure.

The current version(s) have issues anyway…
So I’m willing to see what another option could bring to the table.
I know some will say any UM that doesn’t include all trailer prices into the bot mode is worthless trash.
But from what I see in both Siege & Kingdom versions is a bot mode with a couple major issues, and a janky-looking truck mode… Imo opinion neither is done well.
Again, I get it, there is a lot going on with making this figure work.
I just don’t believe we’ve seen the best version possible.
Bumping him up to CC of course is a game changer & opens up doors to increased number of parts, engineering, etc.
But for the size as well as what’s involved with this specific character, I think it’s the best bet for getting a definitive version.
Will a CC figure ever be put into the SS86 subline??
Maybe not… But if Hastak is confident it’ll make money, I don’t think this would be an impossible shift.

Siege and by extension Kingdom already does all that for Magnus. There is really no expectation of having the entire armored robot mode not parts form. Its armor, it supposed to go over a smaller robot, so it needs to parts form. Only MP chose to have the entire thing be self contained, and people complained about the lack of albino Prime underneath.

Siege and Kingdom get all the basics of Magnus down pat. Not sure what more you want out of an Ultra Magnus.
The trailer mode is a bit off, but just a bit. More so with Kingdom and the changes made to it.

Kingdom Magnus is essentially SS Magnus only in the kingdom line. Much like Galvatron and Cyclonus are SS in Kingdom.

Magnus is nowhere near janky. And is pretty close to definitive in robot mode.

The completionist in my made me get Kingdom Magnus even though I already have Seige and wasn't too happy with it. As expected Kingdom leaves a lot to be desired.

Maybe the best Magnus would be the Legends version with the 3rd party white cab that can turn into Prime. The cab is too small, but the overall vehicle mode is better (I broke him out last week). That version does Magnus very well. I didn't get that 3rd party add-on since my fav is still Classics with City Commander. He has his flaws, but I still like him the most overall.

For Kingdom - they should have just made G1 for Siege from the get-go. I'm sure they could have done a better job if they had done that. I appreciate the RID reference, but in the end the compromise led to two figures that leave something to be desired.

I got both Siege and Kingdom Magnuses so I'll be using Kingdom as G1 Ultra Magnus proper.

While Siege will instead be an alternate universe version of RiD'01 Ultra Magnus who didn't go down the path of jealousy and abandon Cybertron after the war, instead staying on Cybertron to continue his tutelage under Alpha Trion while his brother, Optimus, fights the Predacons on Earth. Specifically, he would be the Ultra Magnus who later goes on to become Ultra Trion.

Image

This would also essentially retcon RiD'01 Ultra Magnus's altmode as having always been his Cybertronian altmode instead of an Earth one, as it would make sense for the normal Cartoon version of the guy to have never scanned an Earth altmode in the first place since he wouldn't have cared at all about blending in as an Earth vehicle. He came to Earth because he wanted to steal his brother's Matrix by any means necessary, never once minding any humans who might have seen him.

Yeah I bought a set for Siege Magnus but ended up using it on Kingdom Magnus instead. Actually I don't care for the Siege smaller robot, but really like both the Kingdom armored version and the smaller robot. So I wonder if I can put the Kingdom armor on the Siege smaller bot... But then what do I do with the Siege armor...?

Regarding Magnus, does anyone else take issue with how his hips are done? The ratchets at that part have an elastic kind of feel where they bounce back.

I believe the armor is interchangeable yes. no harm in trying.

Yes, they are kind of springy when going back and forth. When opening sideways, no ratchet, and kind off loose on mine.

Yes, Ultra Magnus wants to do the splits badly. Both Siege figures and the kingdom figure like to do the splits.

My point was that I'm going to be okay with an UM figure who has both "armor" parts, as well as a full trailer. The problem imo is that when parts of the armor are supposed to end up being parts of the trailer, either or both suffer. So the trailer should just be separate (for the most part), and the armor can fit under, inside, etc., the trailer. Or not... At this point I don't care if the only uses for those parts are for the bot mode.

What I want is a bot mode that has better proportions; these current versions have legs that are too short, the overall bot is a bit too bulky (especially the lower legs; man, those are clunky blocks), as it's been stated, there are issues with the hips. Imo the head is too big.
For me, there is too much Siege greebling.
I'd say the trailer is way-off, especially the Kingdom version. That's the most janky part of this figure imo.
I don't need it to look exactly like it did in the cartoon. But the current one is a mess.

This doesn't qualify as a definitive version. To me.
It's all opinion and preference, but saying UM (either version) is comparable to Cyclonus or Galvatron is a huge stretch.
I wouldn't place these figures in the same category.

Shame they included that Wheelie figure since I refuse to by third party KO figures. If they had just included articulated arms and legs for the existing figure (and if I hadn't bought a couple Grimlock upgrade on eBay already) I might have been more interested.

Grimmy takes so little to push it over the top.

They should have taken out wheelie and given Grimmy dentures and screw hole covers for the dino head. All the other fixes are gravy.

I got the Nonnerf upgrade set. The new Wheelie is nice, but I already have the Legends version.

I'm okay with the intent of Hastak's Wheelie... But like I've said before, do it right or do something else that can be done right!

I bought the Nonnef upgrade kit, as well as the articulated hands/sword kit that Emerji, sol, or someone suggested. In fact, I still need to get those hands switched-out.
I chose the orange Nonnef sword, and it looks like I'll be giving that to Slag or one of the others.
I know all of those were originally red, but I'll probably get at least one more orange one just for a little variety.

That Wheelie does look nice... I even like the little car mode.
I've asked the seller if I could get a set of the dino arms for $8... We'll see what happens!

And agreed; with a a handful of small upgrades, this really solid Grimlock figure is now incredible!!

*edit
Earlier this morning I switched out the original hands for the new ones...
Man, Hastak obviously was not intending for people to switch those out; for being mushroom pegs, at least on my figure it took two pairs of plyers to get those out of the wrist sections...
So fair warning to anyone who gets that set; seems to me like you'll be in a similar situation where a decent amount of force is required. I was able to wrap the fists and wrist parts in clothe napkins to avoid any scraping. Just be careful... I say it was controlled force that did the trick.

Also, on a totally different subject, I saw an image of Slag's packaging, and I think it's kind of wack that Hastak shows Daniel's head and face through the dome of the exosuit...
I get it; it's just artwork on packaging. I won't even say it's misleading.
And in the grand scheme, making this an actual part of that little figure isn't anywhere near worth it.
But again, Hastak needs to stop doing things unless they can do it right.
And by "right", I mean well. Not "perfect", but decently well.
For what they're intended to do, those pack-in figs don't even reach decent.
"Decent" imo would've meant at least knee joints so they could stand straight up.
"Good" would've meant knee and elbow joints.
Transformations would've taken it all up to another level (possibly), but obviously that's not what these were intended for.

Just wanted to share a few images now that I have those hands switched.
Not sure why I was surprised, but the attachments for the sword will hold his blaster as well.
Which is probably why they included 2 in the set. :-D

Image

Image
I really like this sword that came with the Nonnef set.

Image
This shows the sword that came with these new hands. The metallic red of the handle was chipped off in multiple places right out of the packaging, but it doesn't bother me.
Wish the handle went further down into the hand.

Which sword do you think looks better? This?
Or this?

On the topic of 86 Grimlock, is the DNA kit the only one with the clear neck pieces? I like the Nonnef kit (especially since it's relatively cheap for an Upgrade kit), but they don't offer the neck piece or lil baby arms. Also how are Nonnef kits in quality? I haven't heard much about them, but they seem to cast their plastic instead of 3D printing it.

Or am I just better off taking the risk of waiting for a Toy Deco Grimlock?

I only have a few add-on kits.
Nonnef’s is good. The plastic is decent. At least I’m happy with it.
And yeah, the price was right.
You could look for transparent neck parts on eBay.
I saw a set that included those & the lower arms/hands with added articulation.
I don’t want the neck pieces, so I’m seeing if they’ll sell me just the arms at a much lower price.

I won’t be surprised at all if they release a toy version…
That could become an entire subline imo.

Anyway, the listings I saw on eBay were “…Or best offer”.
Maybe offer something low & see what they counter with.
Couldn’t hurt to try it.

I wouldn't bank on a toy version myself. Mainly it's the price point. All these are leader class. Just Grimlock alone, maybe. But it's not just Grimlock, it's the rest of the Dinos too.

But I've been wrong before.

I think the yellow neck on Grimlock is actually painted-over clear plastic, I seem to recall someone on TFW2005 stripping it. Maybe my memory's playing tricks on me...

Shame they included that Wheelie figure since I refuse to by third party KO figures. If they had just included articulated arms and legs for the existing figure (and if I hadn't bought a couple Grimlock upgrade on eBay already) I might have been more interested.

They probably figured that if they were replacing that much of the figure they may as well just go the whole hog and make one that actually transformed, but I don't really see the need anyway. Fillers maybe, but not more than that.

I'd honestly just advise those in search of better Wheelie to just get Titans Return or Legends (unless they've gone stupid up in price...). The Wheelie that comes with SS86 Grimlock is really just a scaling prop to convey the exaggerated size Grimlock has on Quintessa anyway, akin to the Legends-class Optimus that was packaged with the "Megalo Convoy" release of Cybertron Metroplex to convey the Gigantion characters' in-show size but cheaper. I don't feel a need to have a fully-functional one under these circumstances.

Got SS86 Hot Rod last Wednesday, been enjoying him overall even with the altmode flaws. Did a review of him, if anyone's interested.

I can't wait to get my hands on Wreck-Gar. This is the CHUG Wreck-Gar we've needed for so long, and he is a major "Shut up and take my money" figure for me.
Also looking forward to getting my hands on Scourge, Grimlock, Slag... But that'll take time, barring windfalls.
WANT:
* Cybertron Galvatron key, missiles
* Omega Lock
* Primus Cyber Key, coattail panel
* Powerlinx Comettor
* Cyb Jetfire R gun and missile
* RiD Galvy dragon head, beast arms
* DotM Ironhide windshield, R hood assy.
* ROTF Jetfire R JTFR panel

Di Bonaventura is not a credible or trustworthy source. And most fans do like the diversity push, thanks.

Trading MOSC MMPR fliphead Pink Ranger for ER Fasttrack or SIEGE Refraktor

I looked up that wheelie before the upgrade kit came out since I was planning on skipping Grimlock in favor of the MP I already have but last I checked the prices were pretty up there unfortunately
Won't be paying $50 for a 3P wheelie either though haha so I might just sit and wait

I agree about Wreck Gar he's great! Can't wait to get Slag too
Patiently waiting for an updated TF:A-inspired quadruple-changing Shockwave in the generations toyline
