I concur in also not remembering the cartoon having Bluestreak talk too much or being told to shut up.

I remember Blaster being told to shut up, though. By Optimus Prime himself, no less. ;)

No, I really don't think so. I sure didn't, nor did it even cross my mind.

Proves my point, just because their names are too complicated for a child to actually get them, doesn't negate why they have them. Or that children absolutely had to understand the names.

shajaki wrote:
Dead Metal wrote:And going by the cartoon is a pretty bad example, I mean did Prowl's character come across in the cartoon? The only time he was more than just a background character was when Chip Chase had to take control over him.
I said personally, so I'm going with my own experience here. All I had was the cartoon growing up.

I also grew up with nothing but the cartoon, the majority of characters in G1 are nothing but background filler to me due to it. But that doesn't mean I'm right. The naming was made obvious in interviews way after the fact. And from that, Bluestreak got his name due to his personality, not because of a deco that was never used for him.

shajaki wrote:
Dead Metal wrote:Smokescreen created smokescreens.
Prowl was a police officer.
Skywarp flew and could teleport.
Thundercracker had his sonic booms.
Jazz was cool and loved music.
These? Yes. Super easy for a child to relate the name to the characteristics.

Which is why I chose them to illustrate my point of why TFs were named.
shajaki wrote:
Dead Metal wrote:Optimus Prime was the best of the Autobots and the leader.
Omega Supreme was the Autobots last line of defense.
Starscream was the best flyer.
These? Not so much.

Optimus Prime = Best First = Leader.
Omega Supreme = Omega Male is a loaner, prefers to be left alone, Omega is also the last letter of the Greek Alphabet. Supreme best/ amazing/ etc Omega Supreme, the incredibly powerful loaner who prefers to keep to himself, he is also described as "The Autobots's last line of defense".

But, fun fact: Megatron's called that because Marvel was reusing a name from a previous licensed comic because it sounded badass.

shajaki wrote:
Dead Metal wrote:Bluestreak talked a lot, it's even in his character description, so yes if children read his character description they would get his name.
IF they read the character description AND knew what "bluestreak" meant.
As we've already established with Optimus and Omega, children don't have to understand the name. Even if they never read his bio, and all they had to go on was the cartoon. Why would they assume he's called Bluestreak because of his colour? Especially since the only way they know him is as a silver robot and car?

shajaki wrote:
Dead Metal wrote:Plus, the cartoon actually did reference his personality, with characters telling him to shut up.
I believe you if you say so, but I don't recall anything to that effect (and I watched me a LOT of G1 season 1).

I could be wrong, been a while since I've seen G1, and as I said, most of these guys are nothing but background characters to me, heck, I still have double takes whenever someone mentions some obscure Autobot being in the show. ("Wind who?")
shajaki wrote:I'd like to reiterate though, I'm not trying to spark a war DM. I'm trying to back up my opinions, but they're just my opinions ;)

The "My Opinion" thing, I hate it. It's not even a real defense that makes sense. "Well, in my opinion people don't actually die when shot in the head." Doesn't negate the fact that it's wrong.

I wasn't saying they have these names for no reason. Just that the reasoning may be simpler than his literal translation, since it doesn't fit any iteration of the character that I've seen. They might have planned him to be blue at some point since there's TF catalogs depicting him as such. Unless....

Dead Metal wrote:The naming was made obvious in interviews way after the fact. And from that, Bluestreak got his name due to his personality, not because of a deco that was never used for him.
Fine. The people who made his bio say his name is to be taken literally, then maybe make that your opening argument next time. >:oP

But since it's (as you say) years after the fact, maybe they're just trying to cover their asses? :-?

Don't ask me. I didn't name a silver robot Bluestreak. I think it's pretty dumb to have a color specifically part of a characters name (for a children's toy/cartoon no less) and NOT make him that color. Change the deco or change the name.

Why? I think I'm right/justified, but I don't know 100%. If I stated everything I thought as fact, I'd be a jackass.

And with that, I'm done. I really actually don't care to continue arguing about something so trivial.

Yeah, he didn't talk much, was often just a background character. There were a number of times where he'd crack a dumb joke and laugh hysterically at it while everyone else stared at him annoyed. That was as close as it got.

But hold up... is the MP Streak in you collection the "anime" Bluestreak or the 18S Silverstreak?
18S. I waited to see if they would do Silverstreak because I wanted the one that looked like the toy I had/still have. I'm glad I did. Never thought I would double dip like this, but that Diaclone look is sweet. He'll display with my Micromans for historical accuracy. The scale actually almost works.

Same same on the reasons for double-dipping. I also skipped MP-18 for MP-18s for the same reason. I only wish they put MP-18's face in the MP-17/18B Helmet since they are separate parts. THAT would have made it perfectly box accurate. Either way, I'm getting it. It'll be displayed separately of my "main" MP collection.

I hear you on the head sculpt. 18's is perfectly Takaratastic and toy accurate. I didn't even notice at first. I don't have Prowl, so the more I've thought about it the more I'm glad he'll have something different than 18s other than just paint.
Gives me one more reason not to get Prowl.

He is, but I cannot agree on Prowl. He's always been my boy, way back to 84. Of course, Bluestreak was right up there with them, because I loved, loved, loved the Datsun 280ZX. I'll probably buy an MP-18 when the Hasbro one hits, although I don't know what I'm going to do with it.

Hasbro Transformers Masterpiece MP-06 Blue Streak Confirmed in Australia

Postby Va'al » Thu Apr 09, 2015 1:07 am

Motto: "Till All Are Pun!"
Seibertron.com board admin Burn has pointed us towards Australia-based fellow fansite Ozformers, where regular reliable source griffin has posted an interesting report from their latest dealings with Hasbro. It appears that two new Masterpiece figures will be showing up at general retail very soon: along with Takara import MP-24 Star Saber, Hasbro MP-06 Bluestreak (confirming its existence, number and general greyness) should be arriving by late April/May! Read more here or below.

Some new info emailed to me from Hasbro Australia. (thankyou to them of course )

We know that the imported Lost Age Stinger toy is supposed to be in ToysRUs stores this month, but two other toys have now been confirmed for release here within the next couple weeks, as they have recently arrived at the Hasbro Australia warehouse and are on their way to the TRU warehouse.

TakaraTomy MP-24 Starsaber - the next of the HK imports.

Hasbro MP-06 Bluestreak - the first of the three known American Masterpiece toys for 2015. (the other two being Sideswipe and Starscream)
It also is the first official confirmation of the MP number for Hasbro's Bluestreak.

Starsaber was something we've been expecting here for a little while, and it has been noted by Hasbro that the October release date at ToysRUs is an error in their system, as Hasbro are not intending to sit on this stock for 6 months now that it is in the country.
It was also noted that the "Sunstreak" was meant to be the Hasbro Bluestreak... but somehow ToysRUS got the name, the MP number, AND the date wrong.
Although, to be fair to TRU... their release date of May 16th is close enough of an estimated release date, to the "next couple of weeks" estimate from Hasbro.
(I asked Hasbro Australia about both, just to clarify the confusion that TRU had caused us.)

For anyone wondering, the Hasbro version of Bluestreak looks to be the same grey/black colours of the Japanese version, in the standard (big) Hasbro red box.

I just want to say, that it is surprisingly unusual to have the Hasbro Bluestreak come out here before it has even shown up as a pre-order at online stores, or even before samples have shown up on ebay.... which was why I wanted to verify it before posting it. (I was actually told last Thursday)

Slightly misleading to have a picture of the blue / silver MP-18B Bluestreak added to the news article about Hasbro's MP-06 (silver / black) Bluestreak confirmed for Australia, isn't it? ;)

Conversely, perhaps this news should deserve its own topic instead of linked through this MP-18B topic.
I'm so meta, even this acronym...

Agreed. This is likely to confuse several people since the article shows the wrong figure.

Wait..WHAT?! MP-11 based Starscream?! AND FINALLY Sideswipe?! All in the U.S. of A.?! Rumors are rumors but THIS "seems legit"!! Sorry for the off-topicness.

If HasTak had just released Bluestreak/Streak in blue back in the first place, it wouldn't be so bad :) Yes I know, Diaclone. Still, pictures on my "Silver"Bluestreak manual show a BLUE Datsun. Life would've been easier with the blue and then animation color. Oh well, more figures for all of us to buy/want

Hasbro MP Sideswipe and Bluestreak were announced back at BotCon last year. And Starscream was found out here.

Thanks! I thought they were just rumors as nothing really came of it at Toy Fair NYC. Excellent

And here I was thinking I might be able to get blue Bluestreak for cheaper. Really is a misleading image.

A new listing at TakaraTomy Mall gives us some new shots of Masterpiece MP-18B Bluestreak! As many probably know now this fella is a beautiful homage to his Diaclone heritage and the BLUEstreak that never was. They show him off from all angles, with his Datsun brethren, and the now standard "Convoy trailer shot".
