Great Review . One of the hardest things to do I would imagine in making toy reviews is be completely objective (which is why I don't do them, well that and lack of time and adequate audio/visual equipment to make good reviews).

Anyway, I appreciate that you can still have an opinion, and be respectful. Acknowledge that this item certainly isn't for everyone, and it has flaws (what TF doesn't?), but it certainly is no piece of trash. I believe I have seen you summarize reviews about other items you bought, that the item was really not good and didn't recommend it at all. Even in doing so, you managed to do it in a professional way, and that I appreciate.

If I'm honest, I'm a big mark for the Japanese exclusive Transformers. I was going to get this even if it was made out of mulch and manure. Well, maybe not. No wait, yes I would've still bought it.

Hey everyone! I'm attempting to figure out how to transform the made-up "base" mode from Black Convoy's managa. I can't figure out how the legs are supposed to be oriented. It looks like the jet mode nose cone pieces somehow end up on the sides of the battle mode / torso somehow, which might just be artistic license and not how this can actually transform. Any suggestions or pics to help me finish up my gallery of him?

I actually am keeping this version as my Laser Prime and skipping the Legacy one in favor of getting the Black Convoy repaint

I have all 4 molds Laser Prime molds in some form, and yes the new Legacy mold is better than TR in more ways than one, including actually having heels.

Anyway, I'll probably wait for a Magnus or Combat Hero repaint before I double dip the Legacy Mold. I'll keep my R.I.D Scourge as my main Scourge.

As for TR, he's a fun but flawed figure. Not a fan of the powder blue and his lack of heel support is annoying. But he is the more accurate G2 version if that's what you are looking for.

Reveal the shield is just a fiddly mess.

If I had to rate them, OG, Legacy, TR and far far behind ...... RtS.

I have the original RtS one. Not a fan of the navy cab and orange windows, but he's not that bad; the only problem spots are his hands, wheel wells and how the rear tires slide into the legs. The one up: no fake windows in the chest or back kibble He still has a spot on my Deluxe Leader shelf, until I can score the superior United redeco.

Again, can't comment on the TR one other than me missing the whole Chaos on Velocitron set in a moment of indecisiveness at TRU Even had some fanon: Diaclone mech enhanced with Forestonite.

Yeah, the legs don’t line up or stay lined up. also the doors in truck mode have a habit of coming un done since they don’t really peg into anything.
The transformation scheme is fairly innovative yes. Gives him actual window pecs and very little backpack. But the way you get there is not the best in execution overall.

The only thing that mold excels at is the light piping.

Blood Red.

I still like the other options better than RTS.

Oh I never thought TR would be the better Laser Optimus, that mold was made for Octane, I just liked the decos it gave us and both the Laser Prime and Bmack Convoy decos are better on that mold than in Legacy. And that's a shame since this Legaxy mold is finally the proper mold for those specific decos.

And that's a shame since this Legaxy mold is finally the proper mold for those specific decos.

Ohh, TR is really fun mold. He may have some shortcomings, but it works better than it had any right to for Laser Prime, being designed for Octane first and foremost. The headmaster gimmick also adds some fun playability to it.


I’ll bet good money Hasbro is going to release Legacy G2 Prime with accurate G2 stickers eventually. And maybe a selects Magnus or Combat Hero for good measure. They’ll milk this mold for all its worth.

I love the TR mold so much that not only did I buy every single use of the mold, both Hasbro and Takara Tomy, but I also bought a second Optimus for the Action Master upgrade. I had thought about getting a second Octane for Ghost Starscream but I ended up getting a second Megatron that I'd like to repaint for Starscream someday.

Weeeell, it has enough Laser Optimus to it that Octane ends up with a faux-parts chest and large shoulder pylons

Yeah... They especially blew it with giving Scourge (he's a Laser Prime redeco like Scourge, he has upside-down G2 Autobot symbols like Scourge, he has Scourge's Japanese name instead of being called "Nemesis Prime", so I'm pretty damn sure he's meant as Scourge) the Nemesis Prime deco (Optimus is just mainly. Some of that might be mold layout, but not all. And there's no excuse for not stickering the damn chest windows.

Makes me all the more glad I managed to snag an actual RiD Scourge for $61 ($79 after tax and shipping).

On the subject of Legends stuff, I do find myself amused at how severely Legacy Black Zarak changed the eBay situation wrt Legends Grand Maximus.

Before Black Zarak, there were always people selling off the Grand Max they'd presumably got bored with.
After Black Zarak, listings for him are rarer than loose G2 Slingshots.

No one really talks about it, but the "traditional Optimus Prime" deco that was given to Hasbro's TR Voyager Optimus is actually more of a Star Convoy deco. The canceled Star Convoy Titan Master would have made the homage far more apparent, but as is it's still has a lot of the same deco qualities as the original Star Convoy:






The mold's chest windows are also slanted in the same style as Star Convoy's (when no other mold version of Laser Optimus has slanted windows), and the center of the chest between the windows is even colored gold like the star on Star Convoy's chest:




But like I said, the canceled Star Convoy Titan Master would have really helped make the homage more obvious.

It suffers a loooot in city mode from being stuck with Metroplex's lower legs. Really wish DNA or someone would make replacements based on Fort Max's proper lower legs. Also replacements for the tower halves or at least the tower top.

I'm glad I got TT Legends Grand Max when I did. I can't imagine selling it, Even though the toy isn't the greatest, it's the only one we will get for the foreseeable future.
